I get you. I'm pretty disappointed too, though the author seems to claim it isn't abandoned. It's been like 5 months since then, though.

There's a good fic trying to break out but sadly it just gets smothered by everything else.

If you erased everything cringe inducing(Like the constant "omg this isn't like it was in the manga, damn you kishiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!") You'd have a fairly okay story.

As it is, I read through it. I liked the "Danzo picks his successor just as the Hokage does" aspect but ugh, I wouldnt recommend this. Even almost recommend status is stretching it.

If you've got time to kill and can just glaze over the stupid parts, you might have a okay time waster.

So, I've been struggling to find a decent Naruto story to read, but recently I came upon this story: The Spring of the Plague by Zenthisoror, which is a Naruto fanfiction about a mysterious plague that's affecting ninja.

I like what I've read so far, but I'm not too far in yet, so that could change. The characters are all written well enough and the writing is decent, though there are a few errors here and there.

One criticism I had is actually summed up quite nicely by one of the characters when they say, "I'm going to sit here, and get my full entertainment out of seeing you two dying, slow, boring deaths." I can only think this was a subtle joke by the author because so far every death is a product of the plague and we haven't seen much action, which one usually expects in a Naruto story. That being said, I haven't made it even half way yet, so I'll reserve judgement until the end and even then this criticism isn't a huge problem for me.

This story was mentioned once before, but it didn't garner much attention. I thought since I liked it and it's been almost two year since it was mentioned, I would throw it out there again.

Does anybody know any good stories where Naruto is known as a hero by the villagers? More specifically, Sarutobi trains him from birth and tells the village everything, that he's a Jinchuriki and the Fourth's son. I'd also like a story where Naruto knows about Hinata's crush and either doesn't care or think she's annoying/creepy.

Shezza's is the first that comes to mind. Don't know of any Naruto/Hinata ones.

    Actions and Words updated.

The sheer amount of Sasuke wank makes me want to hurl. And here I thought Kishimoto was alone guilty of overpowering the sharingan when the situation seems fit.

The Natural Habitat of Haruno Sakura, by Tozette

It's a college AU, so if that's a no-no to you, well, welp. If not, though, it's a genuinely entertaining piece of fiction, involving a long-suffering Sakura trying to get her medical studies done while living in a dorm with these really shady characters - the Akatsuki. It's funny, the prose is okay and it kinda has a plot. Only real issue I have with it is that Sakura is a bit too accepting of all the weirdness, but still, suspending that bit of disbelief and rolling with it is not that hard.

I enjoy Tozette's Dirt and Ashes, or: The One-and-a-Half Body Problem, so I know that she's capable of writing good fic. There's a reason why I only read that one fic and none of her others though: They have summary premises that are so groanworthy that I fear the physical pain of attempting to read them.

A modern day college AU of Naruto is one of those painful premises. I've only read one good fic like that, and the contemporary AU was just a genjutsu. It was dispelled and the fic moved along to its actual plot.

Has anyone else read The Natural Habitat of Haruno Sakura?

It is a pretty dumb fic, I can't deny that. If you're after the actual Naruto ninja business, you're probably not gonna be a fan. But still, it's recognizeably Naruto-ish, in a funhouse mirror kinda way, and I maintain that it is funny. YMMV, of course.

I'm a few chapters into Natural Habitat. Its got some charm and funnynesss to it. I can't speak to plot or the medical school aspect right now, but deidara and sakura get along in humorous ways.

One lesson Uzumaki Naruto taught the world was that glass ceilings are fragile, and limits are only for the fools who believe in them.

I stumbled upon this a few months back, and it looked really promising. Fem!Naruto with a bit of a spin put to it. Though some suspension of disbelief might be required to get through the first chapter, I thought it was very fresh and loaded with ideas I hadn't seen in a while. A semi-traumatic (not village mob beating I assure you) experience pushes Naruto to seek protection under one of Konoha's shadier establishments. Saying anymore would be telling, but I thought the developments were clever along with the change in dynamics they brought.

It's written in the present tense, which is an easy way to make any sort of narration sound more profound than it actually is, but boy am I a sucker for it. Everything just sounds so real, it's hard to explain.

And yes, it doesn't seem like it'll be getting updates anymore based on the date of its last one, but what's there is worth a glance in my opinion. It's not an SI, and that's about all we can hope for these days anyway.

I distinctly remember reading this and not liking it very much. Will try it again.

Edit: I remember now after skimming through it.

It tries to be poetic and tragic about the ninja reality about how trust is broken and all that rot. Everything is terrible and there is no hope that can not be destroyed or taken away.

What it succeeds in doing is irritate me.

It also goes with the ol' "You managed to LOSE the jinchuuriki. In Konoha. FOR SEVERAL YEARS." But I think that's just part of the SoD.

I'm not a fan of angst, but this one felt productive? I don't know the correct term for that haha. Angst bothers me when it gets too caught up in itself and thousands of words are spent in between significant events making sure you know the pain of the protagonist. Here it felt a bit more cohesive to everything which I suppose made it less annoying for me since it was more character-driven than it was plot-driven.

Break the sky is pretty good and while I didn't love it, I did enjoy it for the most part. I didn't think it was nearly as "angsty" as some other stuff I've read. I agree that it felt natural in that way. I know some people don't like present tense in fanfiction, but it doesn't bother me. I do agree on a few points with Mercenary.
Naruto is so important to the village that there's no way she could just disappear.

Last time this updated was over a year ago, though, which sucks.

I'm not sure if this has been reced yet.

A Meeting Between Heaven and Earth by BukkakeNoJutsu

A One-shot (7K words), that has probably one of the best uses of sage naruto.

I don't remember myself if that fic and it's author have been recommended. Personally I liked his fics when they first came out, but now I have higher standards. Also 'Helping Hands' was a gem that he never completed.

As for knowing whether or not a fic has been posted on DLP. Copy and paste the story code in the search box you can search posts or threads. It makes for less confusion for everyone.

Oh dude, you have no idea as to how much I got hooked on this idea, and how much I tried to search for fics like these.

As a fellow reader of the fic, did you find any others?

I tried looking for this too, but not much unfortunately.

Firestorm, which I linked in that thread, fits the bill but is written very strangely. I'm not sure I'd recommend it or not, but it's definitely something.
