I just noticed today that I haven't received any new mail messages. I use an IMAP server to Outlook 2013.

However even going directly to my account to view mail comes up empty. According to google there are no gmail interruptions. Everything looks normal, but I can only get test messages to go through.

    Has anyone got any ideas?

...maybe people are just not mailing you?

If you're logging into the Gmail web app and not seeing any mail, then consider the possibility that there isn't any mail to see.

Edit: if you're comfortable sharing your email address I could shoot you a mail and see

and I should have received a couple of alerts from DLP as well as alerts from another site I frequent. It seems hard to believe that both sites have a problem at the same time.

Looks like gmail is down for quite a few people.

Try alternate versions of Gmail, such as Inbox, classic Gmail, the old pure html interface, etc.

This Lifehacker article from 2012 [pre-Inbox] contains links to the old html version as well as other tips to access Gmail: How to Access Gmail When It’s Down.

This only works for email that you already have. My problem is with receiving new messages.

Just wait until Gmail fixes it, I suppose. Not all Gmail is down. Mine is still working fine. I'm getting the expected update alerts from DLP, other forums, etc.

If you log in through a proxy elsewhere in the world, then would Google move your Gmail onto a cloud server that's closer to the proxy, thus moving it to one of their data houses where Gmail is still okay? I'm just grasping at straws here. You're probably better off just forgetting about Gmail until you eventually get a dump of 50 emails all at once when the service starts working properly again.

I bet you the domain registration/hosting is the problem here. Is it expired? (Check your mx records, DNS zone files, etc)

I have. The problems are all on google's end of things. 24 hours later and they are still reporting bugs in their system.

Checking your mxrecords - no records found. Mail eXchange (MX) records have to be attached to every domain in order for it to function as an email. See: Facebook, SI.com in this example. Sadly, tensor-cs.com does not have any records attached to it, therefore you cannot possibly be receiving mail. Go ahead and try any domain name out here: http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx

Next I'm checking to see if you have any DNS records or nameservers at all, to see if maybe they're configured funny. Nothing.

So lastly I checked your WHOIS to see if you still own the domain name. A WHOIS search for that domain reveals a whack of personal info that exactly matches your last name and DLP location, so it looks like you still own the domain.

Moving forward, I'd talk to your internet registrar (which looks like Planet Domain) and see about configuring the records to the appropriate settings to make sure you can get mail. If you need any further help you can drop me a PM :)

Thanks. It's scary how easy it is for someone to get all the info about you. I'll look into what you've said and see where I go from there.

I got a hold of my DNS host Fatcow, they tell me the whole problem is with Google. Funnily enough Google claims there is nothing wrong with their server and send me to Fatcow. From what I can tell Google really is the problem. However if you use Google's free service like I do and millions of others, they won't talk to you on the phone unless you pay them $5 a month for their business plan.

Which brings me to another problem. I've always wanted to use my NAS server as my Email host. I use freeNAS and have never seen a mail server app of course I don't know enough about Linux and programming to make my own.

If anyone has a suggestion I'd love to hear it.

Here's suggestion: don't host your email. Seriously.

I've been playing for few months with hosting websites on ubuntu, which is easy enough, but mail server—ensuring it works and isn't blacklisted anywhere etc. is a bitch.
