Exactly my thoughts two posts below yours. As I said, sometimes I think they're reading what they think the text says, rather than what I or you or someone else actually wrote. And in doing so, they fill in a ton of details and backstory that not only does not belong, but is counter to the story you're actually writing.

Just recently (couple days back) someone started reading one of my older stories - Feather Fangs and Flames, and leaving reviews on occasional chapters. Half of them are showing simple interest, and half are about how Ron is evil and one chapter proves it for sure, and how Dumbledore is hiding everything and that makes him even worse than canon.

Not going to post quotes as they are one or two liners, just wanted to 'brag about it'.

On the other hand...

He blamed Ron for being a bad friend, said that Dumbledore must be manipulative, and that whenever Snape is being his harsh self, Harry should do something indy!Harry about it. So, does this mean I'm close to canon portrayal? ;D

p.s. because both Moody and Dumbledore could see through Harry's cloak, it's apparently weaker than it should be as a Hallow.

 

Without a doubt, the worst reviews one can receive are those that repeatedly are just smilies or "good chapter." or the similar copy-and-paste 20 character non-entity of a message, but I've had some weird ones from a particular girl recently.

Every comment from this girl is like this, and I honestly feel like she's the sort of person my personal Hell would be populated with.

 

While the majority of the reviews I get are things that come from people who apparently are reading the story, I sometimes also get things like this:

This is from a Harry Potter fanfic which I wrote during my "Early Dark Ages of Writing" so things like this were to be expected. But a few chapters later, I also later received another review from the same person as above, and it went like this:

It was then that I decided to check that person's profile...and in the words of Emperor Uriel Septim VII, "Gods give me strength"....

 

...they...they never actually wrote it,
right? Hehehe, I'll just keep believing that instead of curling up in a ball and crying

So much to take away from this critique.

Is it bad that I'm reading that as really bad innuendo? Like, summary of terrible erotica level innuendo. To the level where after each sentence I'm feeling a metaphorical wink wink nudge nudge coming from the text.

I just got one that said:

Ok, so Theia is my OC. It's all right if people don't like her - I'd rather have an interesting OC that some people found annoying than a dull one that everyone felt ambivalent towards. But I cannot for the life of me work out what led them to believe that the character was mentally unstable or acting in a fraudulent way. I feel like if you're going to make such a drastic criticism, you need to back it up so I can work on my character creation. That as a review in itself is in no way helpful to me, it's just bizarre.

 

Having read some of his other reviews, I'm pretty sure he just thinks it makes him sound goofy.

Look upon these and despair!!

This next one is truly terrible, and it was posted like 6 times by a bunch of different accounts, no doubt some edgy teenager with bad taste

I like how they think any part of this is a good idea. Needless to say the story itself is a pile of hot salty garbage anyway, but damn, so much cringe.

 

This gave me cancer.

 

I'm just wondering how one would go about assassinating a train.

 

Someone would have to have a real loco motive.
