You know, when I saw the title of this thread I was preparing in my mind a wonderful "who cares" post about the title of the 7th book...

And yet I find myself inexplicably intrigued by it...it's definitely not what I would have expected...

    Let the guessing begin!

My guess is that it's something to do with Godric's Hollow, or the location of a horcrux. Possibly both. More ideas are that it has something to do with his parents (possibly their graves?).

The use of the word hallowed is interesting as it usually has religious connotations, which there aren't in Harry Potter.

Also the fact that Halloween is also called All Hallows Eve is something to consider.

Subtlety, it appears, is not a Rowling strong point.

This should sum up my views on the title quite succinctly:

If she drags Harry and Voldemort back to Godric's Hallow for the 'Final Battle', another ridiculously cliche'd and irritatingly inaccurate descriptor, I'm going to be so goddamned pissed off. I'm already debating whether to read the book at all, since I've already given up on Canon offering me an exciting source of closure on the storyline.

What I might do is wait until I've grown entirely tired of fanfiction, then read the 7th book, throw it into the depths of my bookshelf and never let my gaze fall upon it again.

That's what I was thinking. In my mind, Ron or Hermione (or Ginny) are going to be killed searching for a horcrux at Grodric's Hollow. I know that the 'Hollow' in Godric's Hollow, and the 'Hallows' in the title are not the same, but either way it was the first thing that popped into my head.

Still, a surprising and slightly pleasing title for book 7. I was expecting some trash about love or something of that sort.

Hallows can be taken to refer to ghosts and spirts and spooky things. Remember, All Hallows Eve. So it might be something about a specter of some sort that can affect the living, like Voldemort.

Something very interesting will probably happen of All Hallows. Mayhap the Final Horcrux will be distroyed on that date and Harry will *almost* die, only to return to destroy Voldemort in the spring after chasing him for a few months.

Actually in all likelyhood it is a reference to the Horcruxes.

    http://www.mystical-www.co.uk/arthuriana2z/h.htm

Still not all that creative and this confirms that its going to be a scavenger hunt.

    Oh boy, I can't wait.

Apparently not. I think it would be best if she paid someone to come up with the titles.

Would it be too much of a stretch to think that JKR would utilize this as a plot device? (four horcruxes because: 1. his body 2. the diary 3. the ring 4. the locket (known but lost) 5. unknown 6. unknown 7. unknown)

However our dear canon!harry is nowhere near powerful enough to defeat four guardians/smart enough to steal form four guardians and it would not be linear with the fact that the first two didn't really have guardians (the ring was Gaunt, but the diary? and even that one extra, Gaunt, screws my theory to hell)

Edit: that quote was from Necrule Paen's source

Well... Normally I could really care less about the name, but 'The Deadly Hallows'
is a ridiculously unimpressive name for a final book.

At least, (and 2 years ago I never thought i'd have said this) I hope it's the final book. I really don't want to see how much that J.K.R can screw up when she puts her mind to it.

It could be related to the Dementors as spirits who are bringing death or resemble death. The Dementors are one of the problems that need to be solved during book 7.

But then, the whole HBP points at the scavenger hunt. The title of book 7 will probably be no exception.

There is something with the probably soon commonly used abbreviation of the title ... I can't remember exactly, but I have seen those two characters before ... I wonder ... hmmmm ... it might stand for ...

    HOLY SHIT

    Daphne/HHarry

    postscriptum:

Somehow I am disappointed. Seriously disappointed. With all fanboys and fangirls out there.

Honestly. The announcement of the title is known since this morning. And now, at 22:23 GMT there is still no fanfiction at ff.net with the title Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

    ff.net search deathly hallows

Lol, Jon's Daphdar should be ringing any moment now...

Anyhoo, all detailed inspection of the title aside, don't you think that it has a rather lame ring to it?

JKR has said that she had 2 potential titles for book 7; I find myself longing to know the one that got rejected.

Not as bad as it could have been at any rate *cough*HarryPotterandthePowerofWeasleyLove*cough* I caught the tail end of the news and thought I'd misheard it. But yeah, kind of...unremarkable. I guess it gets kind of difficult to think up original titles when every time you sit down to write one you end up imagining the horrified reactions of people the world over :D

I really hope that this book will dash all hopes of D/H love along with H/S love because the last book didn't do that apparently.

Wouldn't the diary's guardian be the "ghost" of Tom Riddle?

*Twitches violently and stares at Minion.*

It went off the moment I woke up.

Ahh, the stupidity ingrained into a childs mind, is there anything so innocent, so fragile, so fucking retarded?

I keep forgetting how different we are compared to everyone else who reads Harry Potter. I'd cockslap both of them with Gozdilla's monolith-like penis, i swear.

    Pedophilic wench!

    ....no comment, just.... no comment.

Btw, The title is shit, i'd have prefered Harry Potter and the Unexpected Hunt For Tail. (Xiph0++)

Like alot of the recent other book titles... this probably has very little to do with the main plot.

Books 1-3 seem to be the exception to the rule, but generally the title of the book is kinda irrelevent. 3 kinda towed the line though...

gof... one meagre cup that made a small cameo apearance, it had no real importance than deciding on who gets to compete... thats all. what a waste of a "Powerful magical artifact" (Cannon description)

OotP... a group of wizards and witches who fight voldemort... but thats it... it has nothing to do with the prophecy or any of the other important stuff in that book. Like emo Harry (Joy :?)

HBP... do I even need to explain how important that entire tiltle was.

The deathly hollows is probably some reference to when harry visits godrics hollow, or some small event during halloween that wasn't really important but galvanized our intrepid hero further from the ok harry of the pre -HBP era into the GinSlut Lovin, Speech giving, Power of Love ass kicking, bitch we all seem to Hate... unless your a h/G shipper... then your lovin the plot.

I am dreading the fanfictions that will come out based on this title.

    "Shudders"
