Why would it be something awful? Souma wants to stand at the summit of the entire profession. It's not some horrible thing if he beats even the most elite student at the school now that he's finally breaking out whatever 'specialty' concept he came up with. It would just mean that he's someone who could one day make good on those lofty ambitions. I could see there being a pacing issue if the author intends to drag the story through all Souma's years at Tootsuki without doing anything to change the setting, but that's no guarantee.

That said, he's almost certainly going to lose.

Surely the two judges means a tie, right? Unless Rindo pops out of nowhere or something.

While a win/loss could each be funny in their own rights, I'm not sure I want the consequences of either yet.

 

I'd be happy with any winner here, as long as someone wins. It would be pretty disappointing to me if the whole duel is invalidated somehow (or the consequences don't apply). Wouldn't be surprised if that's the way it goes though.

Yeah, called it as soon as Soma pulled out the really unique dish that Tsukasa would let him off. Still, this feels like the least terrible option for the writer to go through, which raises the question of why exactly this happened. What did it accomplish?
