Not sure if this film will deserve its own thread, so for now this will do.

A first photo from Ghost in the Shell.

My expectations are very low and I will consider anything better than Dragonball Evolution a success, but maybe they will surprise everyone?

I must admit I've never seen Ghost in the Shell but I always wanted to.

I guess I have to do it before this movie comes out.

While it's the first film that gets all the attention, I enjoyed the TV series a little more and its plot is a basis for the live action movie.

Additionally, there is 2.0 version of the film with an updated cgi. A comparison of the opening scene in both makes me wonder when cyberpunk changed its colours from black and green to black and golden.

I still hold that they should have gotten the Wachowskis / anyone somewhat versed in making science fiction to direct this, but I'm cautiously optimistic. The snow white guy will at least ensure that it's stylized and purty.

Wow, they don't even pretend to make her look Asian or anything. You'd think they'd have changed her name from Japanese then.

I'm generally not really a fan of cyberpunk, but I liked the GitS movies/series despite that. I don't have a lot of faith in a live-action movie.

Ugh, don't even remind me of those crazies.

The TV series Stand Alone Complex and its sequel 2nd GiG is better than the movie and far far better than its sequel. The movie is still exceptional but the TV series takes the cake.

GitS Arise is also rather good but it's very much a different flavour.

They pulled off the first perfectly well. I think the Wachowskis could do it.

That said, I'll be going into the film with very low expectations, like the Avatar the Last Airbender low.

Outside of the first Matrix film, have the Wachowskis done anything to suggest they're likely to make a good film? I'd say that Cloud Atlas is their best film since then and that one still an absolute mess. The Wachowskis talent lies in concept, not execution.

Animatrix is awesome. Sense8 was fucking fantastic, but that was a show. I enjoyed V for Vendetta for what it was, although they were only the writers for that. And Speed Racer was a perfectly hilarious/horrible caricature of the hilarious/horrible anime.

Honestly, I feel like Jupiter Ascending and Matrix 3 are the only really big detractors in their career. To be fair though, those are very BIG detractors.

They didn't direct Animatrix or V for Vendetta. Speed Racer was bad. I haven't seen Sense8 so I can't really comment on it. But outside of the first Matrix film their record as directors is far from good, no matter what way you look at it. They would be far from my first pick to direct anything, sci fi or not.

    Even 1 aged badly.

P.S. The *good* parts of Matrix 2 are my personal highlight of the series. The delicious dialogues with the french man+wife are still entertaining and the action sequences were imho the best of the whole series.

Well obviously. But it was perfectly executed as being literally the cartoon in movie form. All that was missing was the really fast dub and copious amounts of shocked 'O' face.

First look of Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa from the upcoming Power Rangers reboot movie.

As much as some people are hating on the look, I personally like it and find it quite refreshing.

    Link.

They should have thrown in some updated version of the horn things, but yeah, looks pretty cool.

    Beauty and the Beast trailer.

Hope it's more along the lines of Jungle Book and less along the lines of Cinderella.

Emma Watson as a bookish young woman falling in love with a guy cursed by unsightly hair? Way to avoid typecasting.

I fully admit my bias, I will watch anything with Emma Watson. Except Noah.

Noah was actually pretty good, from what I remember. Not fantastic, but interesting and worth a watch.

What was wrong with Cinderella? I thought it was about as good as it could have been.
