Cool, are you collecting any interesting stats beyond the poll? Maybe like join rate over time or which subcategories of author/websites people joined from?

We aren't. That'd be rather cool to see, though.

And yeah, I've been reading every single one of these responses too. They tend to make me a little happy, one way or another. :)

The Admins, in particular Jon and Raven, might be doing that. Jon started the poll and I think Raven has a similar reference field during the sign up process.

As for me, well this thread is where new members tend to make their first post and I can start separating the good posters from the bad posters.

You got your WbA access and I can see you're straight to reading The Santi's, Harry Potter and the Boy Who Lived, but you posted an insightful, if brief, Library review to get there. Your other posts were okay too.

    You pass.

Insightful Library posts are my favourite.

Edit: Palindrome is being nice and ruining the mood. :(

I heard about this site on the "hpfanfiction" subreddit. As the views on "DLP" were varied to say the least, I wanted to see it for myself.

I've been shadowing DLP for a while, I've been using it as something of a reddit to find good stories on fanfiction. After a while I was finally like "Aw, heck, why don't I finally make an account so I can actually read stories on here?!" And that is what led to me finally becoming a member. :)

I had just finished reading the last chapter of Harry Potter and the Boy Who Lived (by pureb99) and I was desperate to continue reading. I saw something about this website having more chapters available (someone commented about it on ff.net) and I was, I think quite understandably, pretty damn excited. After learning that your WbA section is 1) locked until you reach 5 posts and 2) not for simply reading but for reviewing and helping the author, I decided to be patient and wait for the finished chapters on ff.net.

I would rather get to eventually read the finished product rather than a rough draft on which I couldn't provide any valuable advice anyway.

I might or might not start participating on your forums until I deem myself ready to do so, time will tell I guess.

A very large man visited my family and I while we were vacationing in a cabin next to the lake for my birthday. He gave me a letter containing the relevant information. He also made me some bacon.

I finally decided it was time to go from observing posts on the dip forums to participating in them. I guess so far I've been a little apathetic to joining up since there was always some who expressed my point of view in the forums but after sinking much time into reading various people's thoughts, I'm at a point where I want to communicate with these people.

I actually found DLP fairly early on in my fan fiction career, Inert's stuff was some of the first stuff I read, and he made small mentions of this site in his Author's Notes. Being new to the fan fiction community, I was initially put off by how harsh some of the posts are, but when I came back after a year or so of perusing various works by various authors, I got it. I still don't agree with how harsh some guys are but I understand the deep seated frustration that burns you to your very soul when you read an incredibly sub par (read:inept) story. So I can commiserate with the cynicism.

So here I am dipping my foot in an attempt to test the waters, it feels oddly like an internet version of a debutant ball... maybe that's the point. Alright, I think I've put my best foot forward but obviously that's for you guys to decide.

TL;DR I'm Hush and you'll probably see me spring up from time to time.

People were talking about it at The Fanfiction Forum and some members from there have accounts here. I was curious.

found it a few years ago through google while searching for a fic
read a few threads without registering, then stopped reading fanfiction altogether.
now I'm reading again and thought if google already shows DLP as one of the first links I might as well register

Can't remember, might have been an authors note. Joined when I was 15, got myself immediately banned in my introduction thread (back when we had those) for mildly annoying a mod, snuck back a week or two later under a new name and the 'my sister made an account' excuse to Raven.

In other new I just discovered the dedicated DLP bitching subreddit(s), wow they were very active for threads just dedicated to that isn't it? Like, why? Its kind of odd reading outsiders perceptions of DLP, didn't know we still had such a bad reputation. I mean it was pretty brutal back before say 2010 but that was over half a decade ago.

Is it because there are so few active HP fanfic forums left? Actually I don't know that for sure, how many HP fanfic forums are there left?

Looked for fics and found it by Google. Read forums for some time, found lot of nice criticism and joined.

I found that quite a few fics I liked gave thanks to DLP and I checked the C2. That led pretty nicely here.

Back in the day, I was obsessed with Harry being part of the Mafia, so naturally I went on Google, and lo and behold, was Dark Lord Potter. I was intrigued, and it led to this.
