I'm okay with the starters after a brief wtf period. Can see possible badass final forms.

Also Hawaii works for me. I love being right.

It pains me to say it but I might actually have to pass on this one. It looks like they're using the same battle engine from X/Y and Omega/Alpha, which is what killed both of those games for me. I can't handle a third one, man. I can't do it.

Out of curiosity, how come you dislike the battle engine so much? I didn't have any complaints about it.

It's tedious as fuck. I don't have the patience to sit through every 5-10 second animation that doesn't matter and means nothing. It doesn't even look good.

Can't you turn it off? I haven't played anything past Black and White 2, but you could definitely turn off battle animations in that. It's the first thing that I do, I think I'd give up on it if it were as well.

Yeah, I leave the battle animations on for a bit, just because I love the fancy new graphics, and then turn them off when I get tired of it after a while.

Picking the firecat. Maybe, on another run, the grassowl. But the derpwaterseal? Nope. Usually one starter I despise at first glance and we have our loser this generation firmly established.

I'm torn between the main legendaries. But Lamora's Pyroar comment kind of nudged me into leaning toward Moonbat now.

You can't turn off the entire engine. In the games I played there was no option to skip the animations of throwing out poke balls, watching the intro animation for the Pokemon, the switching animations, the recall animations, etc. You can turn off the attacks themselves but the whole affair still takes twice as long as any of the generations that came before. It's something I never even noticed in the previous games, because transitions in battles were quick and unobtrusive. When they made the switch to 3D they decided to show off all their new assets and make every single encounter a grand affair. It singlehandedly ruined the Gen 3 remakes for me, which would have been just as good as the Gen 2 remakes if it weren't for the engine.

I do have to say that I've never heard that complaint before.

I guess I just got used to it.

Same. I didn't notice a difference from the sprites to 3D. I'm replaying Heart Gold at the moment and still boot up my new games interchangeably to do stuff, and I didn't even notice a difference.

But then I never turned off the battle animations either, and I wouldn't want to. /shrug Thanks for explaining though.

I think you've forgotten how slow Gen 4 was. I'm pretty confident it was slower than Gen 6.

I haven't, and you're wrong. Side by side any random encounter from both generations and you'll finish a Gen 4 battle in half the time, with or without the attack animations.

I get that they're trying to make the most of the jump to 3D, and obviously it doesn't bother anyone, but it's just long enough for me to notice.

I hope the Surfing is fast, and that the Surf Theme is actually decent.

Completely misread this as 'I hope the suffering is fast', and nodded along with you while Hoenn trumpets blared in my head.
