I'm pretty sure he abandoned that fic. Also I tried that particular fic and lost a lot of interest in it with older Naruto.

Plucking strings wasn't too very good, but the way the story was unfolding before he abandoned it would have made it an interesting AU of somewhat bearable quality which, considering the state of the fandom at the moment, is a welcome sight.

 

Chance for a Prophecy is alright but despite English not being their first language (and all the problems that go with that) you can easily feel the smugness the author gives off from using the most over used plot twist in media.

Despite that, there is apparently only two more chapters to go and the story was at least compelling and the authors note seems to imply that there's more than we know regarding the spoiler.

Definitely not the best time travel fic ever. I'd say 2/5

If I was going to rec a time travel story I'd go with

Which is already in the library with 5 stars

For puppeteer Naruto, Peter is right that most are pretty bad and worse if you have high standards.

Naruto has a kid story.

 

In the breaking was really good, I remember getting really into that waay back in the day.

 

Something about in the breaking appeals to me a lot. I reread this several times a year every year, hoping the author returns from a decade long hiatus.

I've been reading Shinobi Team 7, and it's fucking awesome. Haven't been this excited by a Naruto fic for a very long time - I'm very impressed with its ambitious worldbuilding. It's really too bad that it's like 3 years old, with only 120k words (that's basically 3k~ words per month).

 

Yep, I enjoy it a lot - even if nothing else, that sort of novelty is really nice. Has a library thread:

I'd say that the Naruto in Naruto: Altered History and Naruto: Shinobi Wars fits the bill incredibly well. More so the Naruto in the latter, since it's the events in Altered History that set it all up.

Unless you're looking for a story where he's just kind of going around killing people just to kill them, no reason plot wise or character wise. If that's the case, I've got nothing.

 

Out of curiosity, which fic would you guys recommend that's most like Gallyrat's Shinobi: Team 7? I'm on a Naruto roll since reading it, but nothing really compares. I'm thinking of this very different AU, with unique worldbuilding and the like.

The only stories that I can recall, being similarly different, are Shadow Rebirth's Worth Dying For and Howdy's Houses of the Holy - but the former is dead, and the latter is deader than dead ever since Howdy went into the Playhouse and never came out.

 

I haven't read Shinobi: Team 7 so I can't help you there Fire.

But, for those who don't mind "Sakura-centric" stuff I think Expedient by SwiftKick is a fairly good read.

Basically Konoha and Iwagakure are doing this genin exchange program, and Sakura happens to be most "non-liability" student to send over. Her teacher ends up being Deidara sometime before he defects.

I can't remember why I stop reading, but now it's complete and I thought I'd share for anyone who's interested.

It's a Time-Travel fic that's Herimone and Kakashi centric as far as I can see.

Hasn't been updated in over a year. Mostly, because this author is working on another epic-length SI fic in the khr section, and she say's she has to work out the plot kinks that come with this particular type of crossover.
Hope she gets back to it sometime this year. I'm curious of where this will go.

 

As far as engaging and worthwhile AU's go, the ones that come to mind immediately are gold straight from authors here on DLP. I'm sure there are other on here who have more suggestions but here:
