But then tie levelling with several features. I've done just shy of 400km and am lvl 25. I see people level 28 who have less than 100km.

They coos easily make it so spoofing is impossible. If you move more than a few hundred km your character is locked there for a week. A tiny fraction of people travel more than that regularly. That way you can still play on holiday and at home. But not bounce around.

Then tie it so you have to have minimum of x distance traveled to be able to capture more than x number of Pokemon. Make it so anyone playing the game properly would realistically never hit that limit.

Fixes like that would be very easy to implement. Sure people will find ways to cheat, but not the vast majority we see.

 

They already have the mechanic, they just don't enforce it. When you teleport and the game catches you (you fail by throwing pokeball before teleporting back to your 'original' location) you get softbanned.

A softban is lifted by spinning a pokestop 40 times. Then you can keep going. They're either gathering data over all cheaters for a mass ban before releasing 1v1 battles/trading or they're completely clueless. Unfortunately I'm leaning towards the second.

I'll just look forward to Pokemon Sun & Moon instead, a pity since I genuinely liked this game before I saw how easy it was abused.

 

Maps are fair, along as everyone has access to it.I would not consider it cheating. When a pokemon shows up, you still need to walk over and catch it. I do not have much free time to play pokemon go so an accurate map really helps.

I would not be suprised if PokemonGo comes out with their own radar item that you can purchase in the store. That would explain why they are against 3rd party apps

 

The resources it would take to root out and ban cheaters is not something Niantic, or any game company, is going to waste on a mobile game that is Candy Box with a Pokemon skin.

I've been at 120 for 2 weeks. Last 3 new ones were eggs. Playing less as I have less to do. Mostly just defending the gym just down the road from me.

 

I never got into gyms, fought 3 times total. I prefer walking around, catching and evolving Pokemon. Oh, and hatching eggs of course lol

 

Quite ironic since whenever I actually jog it only tracks about half the distance and now tells me I'm moving to fast. Sure Pokemon Go, I'm riding shotgun on my own two shoes. :facepalm

 

From what I know it stops counting once you pass 10-15 km/h

 

i think he's referring to times when your connection is shit and the game only updates your movement once in a blue moon, so even if you're just walking, 2/3rd of your 'movement' is standing still with the last 1/3rd running to your updated position, so 2 hours of walking = .1km traveled

 

I just evolve a 172 magikarp and got a 1792 gyarados at level 22. i feel robbed, i saw people on youtube with a 160 magikarp get a 2k plus gyarados. WFT.

The whole distance tracker has been wacky since the update to ask if you are a passenger. The gps also seems different

 

Well I may be doing 11 kph, but when I was slower the tracking was dismal as well. Even with a (nominally) good connection.

CheddarTrek: Regarding the Exeggutor and Arcanines; maybe they've found a nest? Apparently those are 'Mons that often spawn in a small area, but consistently.

Nests are real, there can be no doubt about it. I have Nidorans (both types) spawning near my house extremely frequently. In a good day I can catch 7-10 of them.

 

Yeah nest are real but spawn time varies depending on the pokemon. There is a dratini nest by my work place, but it spawns about 1 every 3 hrs usually in 1 of 4 locations. By my gym there is a poliwag nest that spawns every hr or so. Magikarp spawns about every 7 minutes. Spawns for nest depend on the rarity of the pokemon or at least from my experience it does.

 

Started playing a few days ago. Level 10~ atm. Surprisingly hard to stop walking once I start.

The city I'm in right now is seaside, so Magikarp and Psyduck galore.

All the rampant cheating is ridiculous though. Some asshole has a 3k Dragonite on a gym, gj bro. Most gyms are like that, too. Eh.

 

Well, to be perfectly honest I looked into the cheating methods, just because I got tired of being shitstomped by someone who was level 10 at a gym the day before and level 23 the next. You can't cheat the system's method of determining pokemon strength, how much exp you have, etc etc.. no editing of numbers. What you can do is snipe extremely CP efficient/strong pokemon by teleporting to it's location through GPS spoofing, use a bot to enable a max-success-rate catch and then teleport back. It costs a softban if you're dumb and do it too frequently but anyone with no sense of fair or earned accomplishment can do it without retribution, really.

Seeing how disgustingly easy it was to cheat and the utter lack of retribution offered is what made me basically quit playing. You can't edit in-game numbers but you can effectively minmax yourself through automation to reach a point where it makes no reasonable difference and takes all enjoyment out of actually playing the damn game. My home city had 9/10 gyms dominated by Snipe'd Dragonite trainers the day after the tracking system update/release.

I hope Niantic gets their shit together quick and makes the game a fair playing field once again.

All that said, I don't mind the use of passive tools like IV/CP calculators. I've got a few 90%-ish IV poke I'm waiting on sufficient candies to dump into and make monsters out of. It's theoretically possible your co-worker got his poke legit either through luck or being forewarned about the best strats, but unlikely I'd say.

 

I would lose interest if I started to cheat in Pokemon Go. Of course I would like high cp pokemon but i also like to play and go at my own pace. I am in no rush or desperate need of pokemon. I wanted 2 gyrados so i grinded 800+ candies in over 1.5 months. I finally got my 100 dratini candies for a dragonite.

The only thing that would interest me is a map hack that shows the location of pokemon around you. I hate the radar right now since it does not indicate what direction to go.

 

so i went on a 3week trip to australia. ostensibly to visit the various national parks but we all know i was really there for the pokemon. lack of international data and spotty wifi held me back a bit, but i didn't let that stop my 'hunt'.
