Exactly. What's particularly hilarious is that Taylor, so beloved of the fandom, ends up exactly like Cauldron and Alexandria - forcing (or rather, enslaving) others to act according to her plan so as to save humanity. Taylor became what she hated - a bully, who arrogates to herself the right to dispose of the lives and liberty of others - thereby showing that either (A) she's scum just like Cauldron, or (B) Cauldron was right in principle all along, and Taylor is just a massive hypocrite.

Only a few chapters out so far, so it's got a lot of scope for becoming absolute shit, but so far I'm absolutely loving this.

It's Jack Slash's power with a focus on his ability to manipulate people, except done in such a positive way. So far has been more about her trying to be friends with various capes in the city and helping solve their various issues. It sort of reminds me of a cross between Atonement and Go Gently in some aspects. So far we've seen Rune, Glory Girl and Shadow Stalker and all three have been subject to some really engaging interaction.

Really liking Jack Slash Taylor so far, character interaction has been really fun. Hopefully it remains that way, within Brockton Bay without Cauldron or Triumvirate shenanigans.

Writer of Burn Up started a new fic.

Glassmaker: "Taylor eats things she shouldn't and then makes money, and in between eating things and making money, Taylor mends some bridges."

It's Taylor / Lisa. I'd put it up for review, but it's too short right now. I quite like it so far and the writer said it's slice-of-life, so I don't see it getting too serious like Burn Up did.

I'm gonna put this here just as much so that I can keep track of it as recommend it to you guys.

Guy who did Cutting Ties did another story called Rend. This one is about Emma triggering with power of the Butcher. Only 3 chapters.

Light-hearted fun. I'm not sure if it's a good story, but it's pleasant.

I really enjoyed this story, but then again, I really like stories like this. I'm especially fond of the way this AU is shaped, (no Coil, no Endbringers, no nothing bigger than the very personal stuff).

So yeah, it's charming, whimsical and a lot of fun. Nothing serious but really enjoyable.

    4.5/5

Interesting take, I quite like Emma's perspective, especially the notion that the thing that Sophia seemingly implanted into Emma in canon and fanon might have been apparent in Emma to some degree.

That said, I am a bit concerned over the fact that the Butcher's powers really get explored once their wielder dies, so, it does seem like Emma has an expiration date from the get go. I know she can remain relevant by being a consciousness in someone else (Taylor would be interesting but so would a villain Taylor is trying to kill to get Emma back) but it's a risk.

Promising but a bit cautious. Good start though.

New story form Material-Blade on SB. Screamer!Taylor

Pretty excited to see a Stranger power set, and the first chapter was pretty awesome. Hopefully this gets a few updates.

Knowing MB, it will go on for about 9 chapters to be forgotten about.

Anyone reading Headspace by anathematic? It's not exactly a masterpiece or a serious fic but it's a whole lot of fun.

The story starts with Taylor, having triggered with the Butcher's power, in Sophia's head as Sophia had, by mistake, killed her at some point. The fic is basically Taylor sharing the same head with Sophia and she is so fucking salty about her death. It's pretty much humor driven action.

Again, not a serious story, but it's really entertaining and oddly charming. It helps that the action is exciting and the funny banter is actually funny.

It's cute enough but it has non-author omake snips on the threadmarks and that makes me angry. Mostly since none of them are funny.

It's very whatever imo. Like I read the stuff that was there but I am in no way compelled to continue following the story.

Either way, funny how two different stories popped out near the same time both about the Butcher.

Headspace is actually a whole lot of fun. It's probably got a short, finite life but I always enjoy stories that see lots of Sophia and Taylor interaction. Was a bit sad Rune didn't join in the ride - that'd have been fun too.

Have actually cooled down considerably on Headspace. Dauntless is just not interesting, and his constant "language, Sophia! Why I never!" shtick is getting old really, really fast. Especially if you think a bit about it and being able to communicate with Taylor and Dauntless is pretty much all Sophia has left and trying to censor her on that account because Dauntless doesn't find her choice of language proper is actually pissing me off right now.

And if the story slowed down so much that I have to think about stuff like that, yeah, not a good sign.

On the other hand, Centipede is still going rather strong. It really has done an excellent job at combining Worm with this anime feel, but in a good way.

Agreed on Centipede, one of the best updating fics at the moment.

Another fic that I found to be very good but has passed under the radar is Skein, featuring a very unique thinker power. Very good character piece.

I am up to date on that fic and while I agree with the description of "unique tinker power" I think it may very well be too unique. I admit that I haven't quite grasped the power, but it feels like the pretentious indy movie of Worm fics. Also, I have zero confidence that this will last more than a few more chapters.

I also didn't quite like the Taylor/Lisa showdown but I admit, I never like it when the Undersiders and Taylor are enemies in a fic. Only really saw it working once.

I'm not a fan of Headspace, and it had the misfortune of having another actually good Butcher story come out the same time in Rend (although that's been slipping a bit).

And I agree, Skein is interesting but I have zero faith that any amount if plot is actually mapped out and bet it will get cosigned to the bin fairly quickly.

I don't get Skein in the slightest. I don't find it interesting in the slightest.
