The idea that Grindelwald's conflict and WWII line up perfectly is fanon. All we know from canon is that they ended around the same time, and that JKR said a long time ago that wizarding and Muggle conflicts tend to feed into each other. We also know that Grindelwald already had his ideology more or less in place by the turn of the century when he met Dumbledore. My personal headcanon has always been Grindelwald's influence spreading across both WWI and WWII.

But yeah, like I speculated earlier, it looks like they've made Grindelwald the overarching villain for the trilogy. Not only have they referenced him directly, but Colin Farrell's character spends the trailer basically preaching Grindelwald's philosophy. So it sounds like he's a Grindelwald follower and Grindelwald will enter the story through him.

I'm not sure if I'm fully erect yet, but I'm significantly more than half-mast.

    Ahem.

Hot Topic has a few shirts from this movie already, and one of them is the symbol of the Magical Congress of the United States of America. It's badass. Not sure how long it's been out, but it was new to me. :)

Trailer is badass. I don't want to give in to the hype too much. I'll reiterate my earlier remark that Colin Farrell's character intrigues me. And he looks badass. I'll understand if people pile on me for this, but I've always liked the costume designs in the movies. Straight up magenta wizard robes just never clicked for me in the Potterverse.

And the music at the end, orgasmic.

Edit: just realized the little fella at 42 seconds is a niffler.

    Erumpent at ~2:00?

I was a little tepid about the movie until now, but I'm hype as fuck now.

I actually thought the same thing when I saw the horn turning red, as if about to blow.

    I don't know what that cat-thing with the blow-up neck was, but I'm hoping it's a nundu.

If they actually bring Grindelwald into this trilogy, holy shit. Am hyped.

The trailer looks great. Here's hoping that the movie lives up to its hype.

It's possible. This could lead to a trilogy as is the norm nowadays and it's only logical Newt will return to Europe at some stage. Maybe Grindelwald kidnaps Newt in an attempt to use him to raise an army of creatures?

    Okay, that was a longshot.

My understanding is that this has already been confirmed as a trilogy with the second already written (to be released in 2018) and a third in 2020.

As for the trailer I find it super nifty and am excited. I don't care if it has magically expanded house-briefcases. It just looks fun.

I am most excited to see American Magical Society. You only read about it fan fictions where harry flees england or goes to school in america. I want the cannon perspective. I also think the Eddie Redmayne is a good actor. It will be an awesome movies. As for trilogy, eddie is only contracted for one movies, if you check his imdb page.

I'll be wonderfully surprised if it can match the interpretation of the Alexandra Quick series. That fanfic is my measuring stick against which all other American Magical Societies are judged.

If Redmayne is only contracted for the one movie, we might see something other than the standard FB&WTFF Part 1, Part 2, Part 3. First of the trilogy could be FB, second could be Quidditch Through the Ages-with a new protagonist and new minor villain, but still tying into an overarching plot regarding Grindelwald. Third could tie them together, or be something new entirely.

Quidditch film would be ballin'. Wizard espionage movie, using athletes to get behind enemy lines, as it were, switching between Quidditch matches and trying to find out more about Gellert's plans.

If you really want to tie it into Grindelwald and Dumbledore, we might even get a Hogwarts: A History movie, showing Bathilda Bagshot in her rumored prime as she goes around exploring historical sites in preparation to write her book, introducing her great-nephew Gellert to that young Albus fellow who lives across the street...

That would be awesome, or even a movie that included the founders of Hogwarts.

Uh-oh, more powerful X-Men wandless magic. And summoning people, lol.

It does look though as if we're about to find the answer to the age old question about magical shields and bullets.

Did anyone identify all the monsters yet? I'm particularly curious about that snake. Better not be a basilisk.

I assumed the snake was a Horned Serpent from the Ilvermorny house.

    Horned serpent is a thing?

Can't wait for the bad fanfiction innuendos.

I'm a huge sucker for anything involving imaginative fantasy animals, so I'll probably enjoy this even if it's shit.

That said, there's a huge amount of potential in these movies- whats more JK seems to genuinely be making purely out passion for the universe, so I'm hoping it won't have the usual money-making cliches that movies have these days- if this ends up being a trilogy I'm legit gonna be pissed off.
