Ah, OK. Would love to know how he got to keep his wand, though! (Probably because he wasn't Half-Giant.) I mean, I know Dumbledore helped, but I think the movie would want to show what exactly happened.

 

I think it's going to be really interesting to see how they do Wizarding America. We really don't get that much detail on that in canon. You'd think that with international travel being presumably even easier for wizards than muggles there'd be more overlap

Depp has been cast in the sequel to the film, and also he apparently has a cameo in the first film coming later this month. And since Grindelwald also is suppose to cameo in the upcoming film, it's not hard to speculate he was cast as Grindelwald.

 

If that's the case, here's hoping we get proper actor Depp rather than Tim Burton/Jack Sparrow Depp.

 

As terrible as it would be for Depp to be Grindelwald... imagine if he were Dumbledore. I'm now hoping he is Grindelwald just to keep him away from the Dumbledore role.

 

Depp as Dumbledore would mean that the dark side has won.

 

The second movie is supposed to take place in France as well. Perhaps each movie will show a new location and culture.

 

I like that idea, so long as JKR is heavily involved.

 

I'm actually interested to see if there will be any subtle hints to the other movies, or if this is its own thing. Also, Depp being Grindelwald will be okay I think.

IIRC, when the first HP film was being made, Rowling was adamant that the cast should be British. I can't see that not being the case now that she's even more rich and influential (unless you're of the school of thought that she just doesn't really care anymore), so Depp as Dumbledore seems unlikely.

Well, since this movie is set in America and the next one in France, I think they might've let that criterium go at this point. Probably not for Dumbledore, but a single British actor can't be all that hard to find methinks.

 

So, my manger just said that she'll be showing the movie to the staff in 4DX (Along with one friend per staff member) on the 17th (A day before release). Unfortunately, I'm one of the groomsmen on a wedding that takes place on that day.

But guys, if you can, I would highly recommend seeing this in 4DX. It's nopt everyone'scup of tea but if you haven't tried it then you should give it a go.

As for British actors: At this point, is there really any problem with casting an unknown? It's not liek anyone's going to go "John Smith? Never heard of him. Looks like there's no point in watching the movie then."

 

Johnny Depp confirmed as Grindlewald, which...eh. In related news, Dumbledore is definitely going to appear, but no word on who will be playing him.

 

I could actually see a young Dumbledore and Johnny Depp as an item. Seeing as they both have a crazy fashion sense.

 

I would be pretty excited if only someone assured me he won't be playing him the way he does majority of his recent roles.

As for Dumbledore, I suspect they will be searching for a British actor around his fifties. Colin Firth?

EDIT: I have a better choice, if a little younger. Ewan Mcgregor.

 

In the comments section of one of the articles about Dumbledore being confirmed, someone suggested Jared Harris. I didn't think much of that, other than the fact that he's Richard Harris' son, but this picture makes me think he could certainly look the part.

 

For me this is the only choice. It's all in the eyes. Plus, we know he's pretty sharp in a robe and all.
