At the end of 007: Spector in 2015 they ended the movie saying James Bond would return sometime in 2018, and that Daniel Craig may or may not be returning to reprise the role.

There has been some speculation of who might be asked to play if Craig doesn't come back. Tom Hiddleston, Aidan Turner or Jack Huston have been suggested, but there is some speculation that the role falling to a female. What do you think of "Jamie Bond"? I can't help but feel that James Bond is supposed to stay male simply to stay true to the character.
Of course this is all speculation we certainly won't know anything about the next installment of Bond until later in 2017.

Well it's obviously the next step after the Ghostbusters movie.

I never saw the Ghostbuster's movie so I wouldn't know.

While I liked Craig well enough, I hope he doesn't return since Spectre's ending is a good one for his Bond. (Though Spectre itself didn't really impress. The released-at-almost-the-same-time MI: Rogue Nation was the better movie.)

Very much not a fan of the female Bond idea, since unlike a lot of characters, masculinity is a key aspect of who Bond is. Also I'm generally in favour of attempting to create new icons rather than cannibalizing an existing one (especially when the people most eager for the alterations have expressed genuine hatred for the original character and all it stands for). It is very possible to make a new and fun spy film in the Bond mould (and a lead character with a very different background from Bond's), Kingsman is proof enough of that even if it borders on parody at times.

A female 007 as a lead in the series sounds horrible and would ruin the Legend James Bond.

A female lead in the James Bond-verse however could be done.

Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny pre-Skyfall.

Rooney Mara (kinda fits as young Judi Dench) in a cold-war thriller as the young M (or agent before becoming M).

Would rather have another Kingsmen movie than a James Bond one, tbh.

No need to worry about that, we'll have Kingsman 2 in 2017. Good thing, it doesn't take itself as seriously as other spy movies.

A female James Bond would be disastrous, I can pretty much see in my mind the angry mobs on the internet. A female lead, on the other hand, wouldn't be as bad, but would still be viewed with suspicion.

If they have a female leading as James Bond.
What it will mean to the Bond girl?
Will they keep it female? will it lead to greater success than a male Bond?

I really don't like the idea of a female Bond the character is supposed to be male that is how he was created. To me it's almost as disastrous as if Rowling made a HP sequel where Harry is a girl.
If they really want a female Bond why can't they just make a new series and make the lead a woman? That is what would make the most sense. I'd also love to know what the female DLPers think of a female Bond as well.

I actually think that a female Bond would be an interesting idea that I personally don't think would require a complete re-do of the character since a lot of those "masculine" traits work just as well with a female lead as they do with a male one.

That said considering the reaction of certain quarters of society to such a move I doubt we will get a female Bond anytime soon. I am pretty sure that Craig won't be coming back, he actually dislikes the Bond franchise/his role and has mentioned that quite a few times in interviews, which leaves a lot of possibilities open. I have to admit I am actually interested to see in what direction they decide to go - another "reboot" or a continuation?

I honestly wouldn't mind them going back in time and setting the next Bond during the Cold War. That period lends itself better to the fun globetrotting martini-swilling sort of spy movie than the modern day does imo. At the very least it'd discourage weak writers from using satellites. computers, and internet as a magic wand to fill whatever holes the plot requires.

Another point against female Bond is that it isn't in the studio's interest. If they made one and it was really good, they'd have been better off making it separate or merely a shared universe, because then they'd have either a new potential franchise or the much-lusted-after-by-studios successful shared cinematic universe. If they made one and it was bad or just eh, it hurts their existing franchise. Regardless of quality, many people would see it as a lack of confidence in the product, an indication that the studio doesn't believe it can stand on its own, sans preexisting branding.

That's a whole lot of risk for an exec to sign off on with no apparent reward other than progressive brownie points (which, as indicated by various recent events, are a commodity of much lower value than many believed). As a fellow soulless corporate monster, the entire idea has me shaking in my suit in silent horror.

A female Bond could be interesting, and in theory I don't have anything against it.

But James Bond makes seduction part of his bag of tricks - he sleeps part of the way to success. A female lead could certainly do the same, but it could very easily become a rallying point for critics - "just because she's a woman doesn't mean Jasmine Bond has to slut about to get secrets!", despite that being what James Bond does. A quick google check shows Bond sleeping with 55 women across 23 films, so two or more per.

There's also the inevitable scene where Bond gets captured, tied up, and interrogated. Think of the knotted rope in Casino Royale. Certainly, physically beating a woman isn't beyond Bond villains, but there's the sexual violence to consider too. Again, a rallying point for "she's not just a damsel in distress!"

The rest of Bond's role is also relatively traditionally masculine: fist fights, agressive driving, improvised weapon fights, chasing sexual partners. A woman can do that brilliantly - Fury Road showed us that - so I don't really have any concerns over it.

I don't think I'd like a female Bond, it's got a few risks for getting slammed and then bent out of shape. But a film about 006 and 007 working together with a strong female lead in 006 would be really good.

Ok among all the names that circulated Michael Fassbender would be my first choice.

I also think that the idea of female Bond woul be interesting just to see how they would flip the numbers of tropes associated with Bond's masculinity.

Hypothetically speaking who would you cast as a female Bond ?
Emily Blunt is probably the only actress I can envision in the role, she has the required charisma. And for the lulz, I also have to admit that the picture of Gillian Anderson as "Jane Bond" is really enticing.

Whoever even considered changing Bond's race or gender should get fucked, I'm so sick of that shit.

I do support a return to the Cold War era, the character's really built around that environment.

Well, I'm not against female Bond, but only if the name James Bond is justa part of being 007. A nome de guerre for the agent that holds the 007 rank. And it could work very well if said move showed previous James Bonds of various races and genders.

And it would be glorious if Sir Thomas Sean Connery would reprise his role as THE Bond. Or maybe a Bond villain.

They should have a female James Bond type movie.

They could call it Black Widow. Natasha does almost the exact same thing James does, sans the alcoholism.

Fuck fem!Bond with a plasma torch.

Also, how about we just let Bond die already? The last good Bond was 10 years and 3 movies ago. I'm much more interested in Mission Impossible 6 than another Bond. Spectre was boring as fuck.

    A new Bond in '18?

Meh, probably going to be as shit as the last three films.

EDIT: I'd watch the fuck out of a fem!bond just for the pure originality factor - they're not going to do it though. If the studio had the balls to take risks like that the last three films wouldn't have been as shit as they were.

If you thought the last three were shit, you're deluded. Quantom of Solace and Spectre were subpar, but still better than a good chunk of the rest of the Bond films, and Skyfall was good.

The only Mission: Impossible I've seen (besides some episodes of the TV series) was the first one, and I hold a grudge against it for making Jim Phelps the villain.

Mission Impossible is some of the best stuff Tom Cruise has done and some of the best action cinema of the last 20 years. Imo, MI movies have never been less than good and since the third they've been consistently awesome. Bond has been around since 1962. Talk about milking a franchise. And people give Michael Bay shit for Age of Extinction. I loved Casino Royale, but if Daniel Craig had never made another Bond after that, I wouldn't have wept.
