    Intermission smoke break

When I come back I believe I'll scumread miner.
It will not be a fake read.

Also gonna move cobalt up a tier for the von read.
Its, like, exactly my current von read.
Read on me still bad though.

I have more memory of people calling delph town than of delphs posts, but I'm skimming half heartedly in little snippets so I could have straight missed them.
Delph was one of my buddies that got lynched the first two days in the tiny hunt where I was scum, right?

Jari, what do you think of cobalt?

OK back late tonight unless tomorrow morning because sleep.
Thug is in charge while I'm gone.

why does the same action look good for one and bad for the other?

    ---------- Post automerged at 00:10 ---------- Previous post was at 00:04 ----------

still have a lot to catch up on but found that bit interesting, especially since there's a lot surrounding tom. going to keep my thoughts close to the vest for now until I'm current. seems things have quieted down for the night which helps.

    toodles!

    ---------- Post automerged at 00:12 ---------- Previous post was at 00:10 ----------

probably my least favourite post in the game so far for the second half.

    ---------- Post automerged at 00:26 ---------- Previous post was at 00:12 ----------

saw this post on the current page. found it interesting because I was going to push you today for how your typhon suspicion seemed to evaporate for no reason before you switched to tom. where I am right now in catching up I kinda think tom is towny for the overall reaction to pressure and little things here and there but I might be colored by thoughts about you.

    ---------- Post automerged at 00:31 ---------- Previous post was at 00:26 ----------

hmm, noted. fonti does jan or von or someone else have the best read on you?

    ---------- Post automerged at 00:39 ---------- Previous post was at 00:31 ----------

really dislike these posts for some reason. haven't noted his fluffiness being a part of the typhon push so solving around him by looking for associative reads regarding him seems... out of place?

ofc if typhon does flip scum, his fluffiness is ~almost always town imo. it's more interesting if typhon flips town.

    ---------- Post automerged at 00:45 ---------- Previous post was at 00:39 ----------

I understand and like point number 1. I really dislike point number 2. Condescension is >> a town trait than a scum trait imo, generally speaking.

    ---------- Post automerged at 00:57 ---------- Previous post was at 00:45 ----------

i'm not resigned to you being mafia, you put a lot of work into this post, but I don't really understand your handling of fluff. the quoted post of his means ~nothing to me and doesn't scream hard town, let alone town at all, to me.

re your other reads: I agree with you on Quiddity. They seem solvey so far. not many thoughts about the other people you read.

    So.

I want to apologize for the trolling and snark-borderline-assholery I've been doing. Obviously I have poor self-control when it comes to any sort of pressure. Especially when the pressure is accompanied by snark, and what I view as straight-up criticism for not following along with my previous town (or fake-town) meta.

I wanted to change my playstyle because getting emotionally invested in games (which I was on the verge of doing here) isn't really fun for me. I play for fun, not so I have something else to stress over. I do like fluffing, but it makes rereading so, so much harder for everyone, even me. I'll compromise here; there will be fluff accompanying content, instead of fluff with on-the-spot, not very useful content, which I feel is usually what I post.

I started this game with the intent NOT to be one of the top posters, and whoops look what happened. That alone should have gotten me universal townreads, I am 99% certain I never ever EVER top post as scum, but whatever, wine, I won't be offended if you disregard.

On the other hand, I will not at all apologize for the reads I have given or the reasoning behind them. Those you can deal with.

    ---

Also gonna call out Cobalt specifically right quick.

You being angry with me for how I'm playing is, honestly, not at all a major concern of mine. If you want to hash out reads with me, fine. Condescendingly attacking several of my posts and not at all seeming like you'd be open to discussing them makes me want to completely ignore you. Stop it.

This is the only time I will ask nicely.

Also, you will not lynch me. Not now, not ever. I will crow this from the rooftops until you get it through your head.

Re: me asking tom to put me in his trust circle. Read my lips: it was a joke. I like tom. tom likes me. Sometimes we tell jokes to each other. That's what people do. Me scumreading him and also asking him to trust me is something I thought he would get a kick out of. Please stop raining on my parade here.

    ---

I think it would be easier for everyone to see where I'm coming from if I clarify something here: my townreads aren't Town Reads. They aren't "people I will never lynch ever," because that's what I feel like is how people are reacting to them. They're more like "I don't feel that lynching these players on Day 1 will benefit town." I want to be able to reevaluate down the line without subjecting myself to horrible, horrible confirmation bias. I hate doubting my own reads, I hate being talked out of them even more, because that makes me want to do nothing more than slam the gas pedal and just go for it.

    Ayway.

Let's walk through my brain a bit.

It's Day 1. I'm looking to narrow down the gamestate, not solve it entirely. That's too much pressure.

    Snowvon
    Quiddity
    Mathblade
    Jarizok

I'm town, and will not be lynched. Strike from the list.

I like fluff's play so far. It's lighthearted, carefree, and mostly asking questions and not-too-visibly following up on the answers. These are all town!fluff traits, whereas scum!fluff tries to fake up more traditionally content-y posts. Cobalt was flipping out over how a couple players were super townreading fluff. For people who have played with him a lot, I think it's kind of obvious. Beyond disbelief, no one has really fought it. Strike.

font, eh. I always want to be right on her, but I know I'm never going to be confident one way or the other. There have been some times where she posts what I'm thinking as I'm thinking it, or even in the process of me making a note of it. Examples: the Ty vote, the "oh my god you're scum aren't you" reaction (because I felt that Ty's post she quoted there was cringeworthy), praising mal for calling out Ty's Q read, her not believing tom believes his Waco case (turns out she was right, if I remember correctly, since tom owned up to faking a push on Waco to see what would happen?), and at this point I just think we're t/t jamming. I might need to super duper reevaluate if she's mafia, but I actually don't feel the urge to turbolynch font Day 1. Strike.

I was very, very skeptical of font's townread on Math. At a glance, they felt almost exactly like their TH!self. But then font pointed out a couple of nuances (namely that Math is more blunt this time around, which I can see if I squint), in addition to something a little more meta: Math claims to have excellent scumgames on MS. I think they would have been trying harder not to emulate their scumplay that got them lynched literally one game ago here. Strike, but a little more tentatively.

IMO, mal's scumgame is centered around trying too hard to sound town. His humor falls flat, his questions go nowhere, he doesn't try to strongarm people into voting or putting potential teams together. Town!mal is very much a strong leader, an active voice, his jokes are delivered much more smoothly, and he's very confident (or at least pretends to be, but not in a way that comes off as ballsy scum). His initial townread on fluff weakly pinged me as towny, because if mal is scum, fluff is very much going to be a mislynch he'll need, what with how strong town tends to be on DLP (and from scum!mal's POV, a lot of people probably seem unlynchable). I think this is a really easy read if you've seen mal's scumgame; there isn't really a lot I can say that isn't meta. Strike.

I kinda buy Cobalt being relieved he isn't a PR. For ~raisins~ I wish Corrdorr had responded to mal's very, very good question (which is more +town points for mal), but whatever. Another town!Cobalt ping was when he said he was angry with me for "posting so much BS" or whatever. I think that's a really, really weird line to take as scum. Scum faking getting angry over a towny having scummy posts is too convoluted. I think he and I are just gonna disagree over a lot of reads this game, but whatever, he's likely town. I know I misread him in AYAW4, and if he tries to coast again like he did in that game I will make him super dead. But, alignment-wise, I like him. Strike.

Delphine's entrance (by which I mean her first several posts, not just her first) is so, so much better here than when she was a witch. She gets right into the heat of things instead of active lurking (like how she started the last last TH asking a useless question to Kai and acknowledging that what she was doing wasn't going to lead to anything productive). I agree with her Typhon vote/push, I like that she's interacting with a lot of players from the get-go, and I haven't gotten to really play with her in forever so that may be influencing my read just a tad. Strike.

    Quiddity
    Jarizok
    Typhon
    Jan
    Waco
    Miner
    DLGN
    Tom
    Corrdorr

This "who should we lynch Day 1?" list already looks a lot more manageable.

I'm either scumreading these players (tom, Typhon) or have no strong feelings on them (everyone else).

I kinda like Jan, but him defending me is eh. Could be a ploy to get me to townrad him, because the easiest way to pocket me ever is to townread me. Especially if it's for some convoluted reason that makes me think you really went out of your way to figure me out.

Q has had some posts that were good, can't remember them though. Just that I generally liked his existence.

I think I've been unintentionally ignoring Jarizok. Sorry. Will remedy that at some point, maybe. Same with Waco.

Okay actually here they are in tiers, order within doesn't really matter.

    Quiddity, Jan, Jarizok
    Miner, Waco, DLGN
    Corrdorr
    Tom, Typhon

    o~o~o~o~o

I know mal asked everyone why he started a font push. My answer is either "reaction baiting" or there's some really obscurely scummy thing font did that no normal person would ever pick up on. Otherwise, I don't know.

delphine town. her use of 'visceral' twice in her first 5 posts feels goooooood. reads pure to me. also like her treatment of typhon.

she's good, she's burned me before, but I doubt she's mafia here.

this is as far as I've read so far and I feel good about 4/5 people on typhon, snowvon being the exception. I read his wall just above and it's interesting. I didn't notice a whole lot he was getting worked up about and so the apology part is kinda unexpected but probably genuine?

probably going to stop at the start of page 7 for the night, will be caught up tmw.

dLGN Have you played with Matblade before?

Does Typhon's wall make you trust him more? What do you think about my points below?

If you had to vote for someone else, who would it be?

Don't like this, especially in what I remember of the context. Given how little time dLGN seems to have, I think we'll put him in lean scum for now.

Bit disappointed that 2/3 of the people I didn't know this game appear to be lurkers/inactive.

Really like Von's wall, if only Math was a bit lower we could truly meld :(

Morning catch up / Q/A session

My vote is on tom. Tom is scummy. I did not mean to defend tom all that much really. I just wanted to explain to fluff that there are situations imaginable in which town!tom makes that play and also the reasons for it. I do not think what we have this game is town!tom, hence my vote.

And yeah rereading this post and all the reactions to my initial post I look all kinds of waffly and whatever. Maybe I shouldn't have explained my supposed understanding of tom, but I'm just at the point where I'm happy to see things and just want to share that understanding with the group.

    ---------- Post automerged at 09:52 ---------- Previous post was at 09:50 ----------

I alteady explained why I did not buy Math's reaction to Font.

    Tl/dr; they scapegoated Font.

    ---------- Post automerged at 09:57 ---------- Previous post was at 09:52 ----------

I only mentioned their reactions because they are the ones creating the hype. Typhon comes in afterwards with a townread on fluff as well but he's not setting it up to be more than it is, rather than "All hail fluff, he who is most town".

    ---------- Post automerged at 10:07 ---------- Previous post was at 09:57 ----------

tom I like Cobalt this game. He's on the money with his reads. His reasoning is not as solid all around, but I wanna townread him regardless.

I'll just a wall of where I'm at with everyone actually. Haven't made any nice rainbows yet this game.

Fluff is pink because I'm scumreading him conditionally. He's probably scum if Von and Font are scum.

On that note, I moved my vote from Von to tom because of reasons, but the Von wagon has gotten some traction so I'd prefer lynching Von again. If he flips town I can move fluff right on up the wall.

Right, well, Von's wall is pretty good. And he's right, in any other game I'd probably be townreading him by now.

    Should I care? Probably.

Do I want to know if he's actually meta-shifting or if he's scum? Probably.

Should we lynch him? Eh. I still think it's correct in this case. But, I'm willing to switch onto tom because tom's just been ew this whole day phase.
dLGN Would still appreciate a link to past games. Same goes to you Corrdorr.

Hi, so here's why I think font could be scum here:

    I'm in everyone else.

font, regardless of alignment, likes insta townreading people that are bad at playing scum. As town, this allows her to narrow the PoE, see which townreads get pushback and which ones don't, start building a townbloc that will make scum panic, and since they're players that are bad at playing scum, its easy for her to reverse herself if she's wrong.

As scum, she does the same thing because it allows her to get ahead of the curve on town consensus, avoid pushes that will really look dumb later, and powerwolf to protect her weaker teammates. Additionally since she can't play to ever win endgame against paranoia, it lets her push through the lynches she needs first.

The biggest difference between how scum!font and town!font do this is that scum!font often has too much meta on too many people, so she could do this with a large portion of the playerlist. Instead, she has to strategically leave players out that she could mislynch without being super obvious about it.

All of that said, the most reliable way I've seen to catch scum!font is for a player that she's reading incorrectly to realize that town!font wouldn't be wrong here and just thunderdome her. I called it "the citrus tell" for that one game where she was nearly universally townread until she tried to push a Citrus lynch, he responded with "nope, bullshit", and then she got lynched that day.

Obviously this game isn't quite that game. Its not like she was scumreading me. But contrast her read on me at that moment with Vaimes, who has a similar level of meta with me (I don't think I've played any games with font that didn't include vaimes).

And then consider both her first response:
"I can't afford to put you as a townread, I already decided that I couldn't"

    her next response:
"Your previous stuff wasn't towny, but you can have a cookie for this push. Just back off please"

and her post-hoc reasoning on where I'm coming from:
"I mean, I know that there's nothing wrong with my readwall, so his reasoning must be some weak wording thing"

    ---------- Post automerged at 11:48 ---------- Previous post was at 11:42 ----------

Oh also, there's no way that Vaimes is scum here unless font is also scum, but there is a significant chance that font is scum and she wants to let her teammates lynch Vaimes for her.

So anybody on the Vaimes wagon needs to move over to the font wagon, or fix their reads and move elsewhere.

Mal makes a LOT of sense here.

Von's wall is, meh, better? If he's town I was hoping for some kind of acknowledgement and turnaround from him and we got that but bottom line is that he still has done nothing to substantiate a lot of his reads to the point where he just tells everyone they're not gonna change, so deal with it.

I mean, yeah, I get where he's coming from and if he's town I've probably been frustrating but the whole "You will not lynch me ever" line just makes me want to even more. :/
