    "Polish death camps" will get very vehement, borderline violent reaction. Plus, the government wants to penalize usage of this term, so maybe even prison time would be in stock.

    To be quite honest though, it's really fucking irritating how almost every western journalist uses this phrase despite the constant protests about it.

    Oh, and yes, Zwarte Piet ('Sinterklaas') is pretty damn racist. Suppose I should've said that before.

    I always thought it was kind of rich for Americans to take another countries tradition and look at it through the lense of their own history with black minstrel shows. After all that is what makes dressing up dark like that worse than dressing as anything else. For them (and probably the UK also) blackface carries too much cultural baggage to be used and that's fair and right. (Though funny how you can still dress as an 'indian' just fine when the exact same thing happened to them.)

    To then point at another country's mythological character and say, "you can't have that, that's racist cos we had something similar and we were racist as shit about" it strikes a certain note of cultural jingoism.

    Of course, you guys might have an equally racist history behind Black Pete, I don't know never looked into it. But you can bet that none of those whining about it have ether.
