If you have the time, go read chapter three of Setting Sun. The scene where Naruto finds out about the academy library is totally bizarre. Its so contrived, with conversation so stilted, i wanted to think it was some sort of clever bluff with the academy teachers obliquely passing info on to Naruto - but it wasnt.

 

It took me a second but I've read Setting Sun. It took me about 3 chapters, and a reading of the summary to remember. It's a decent time waster that improves as it goes on. It has some interesting ideas that are handled clumsily.

 

I'm surprised by how much I actually enjoyed this. Does anybody know of any other decent Obito centric stories?

A pretty cracky comedy fic from Sasuke's POV with AU Comedic elements.

I.E The Sharingan is just good at genjutsu, all the crazy shit is Konoha convincing it's enemies the Sharingan is amazing

Uneasy Lies the Head by Hiiraeth is a small-scale (attempted) murder mystery that takes place post-manga, during Kakashi's reign. It's Team 7-centric, although it takes a while for all four members to show up in the same room together. Some OCs show up, at least one of whom is important to the plot, but they always go away quickly.

Lies is amazingly funny. I've not laughed so much, so hard, in a long time.

 

I'd second (third?) the recommendation for Lies. Its one of the best parody/crack fics I've ever read, it's hilarious. I never thought I'd say this - but SasuHina OTP.

It was alright for a bit, it just runs one too long in my opinion, crack should only be in smaller doses.

Minato as gamer/rpg protagonist fic - and how utterly insane it looks to others.

 

Just checked it out, it's actually a lot of fun. Not really focused on Minato per se and how he levels up but rather each chapter so far is from the POV of an outsider looking at Minato who lives his video game life.

It really works, mainly because Minato is OP anyway, so it doesn't really matter that this is making him stronger and that the things that one does in RPGs are just funny from the perspective of a normal person who just doesn't understand what the hell is wrong with Minato.

 

This story is fucking amazing.

Did Minato just became recognized as traitor by Sandaime? I'm sure this will be temporary, and he'll be pardoned and the rest of the village will have no idea about what's going on. But it was surprising. And exciting. I expect Kushina will punch him

I've been on a Naruto binge, but have come up against a hard wall, and finding nothing good anymore - the best I can do are these random rare short-ish gems.

Does anyone have any recent recommendations? Preferable not those female SI/OC fics that have been so distressingly common since Dreaming of Sunshine, yet without being of the same quality.

 

I just wish it was longer tho. The author said he plans 15 chapters total but I dunno if they'll do it.
