Dang, this chapter just came straight outta nowhere but feels entirely believeable. Oda did a good job setting this up I think.

It's an excellent example of how good Oda is at character development. Shittier writers who flanderize their characters, especially Shounen protags, into stereotypes, would never allow their main character to act as Luffy did right here. Allying with a lesser evil so easily against a greater evil, especially when there are other ways to do it that have less moral issues? Never.

But Luffy stays in character, and is entirely willing to do exactly that. It's part of why One Piece remains so good, in how good of a grasp Oda has on all of his characters and how well he writes them all.

 

I'm like 60% sure that Luffy's just going along with this so that he can meet Bege and beat him up.

 

If they did I don't remember it.

Another question. Did I miss something? Is Carrot officially part of the crew now or just a tag-along?

 

There have been no crew additions, no. They're all just tag-alongs.

Brook was the last time we had a "Chapter Number" outright claiming him as a new member, as well.

Oh, and as far as Kidd goes -

 

I think Kaido jumped off a sky island and fell where Kidd was before wrecking them.

She hid on the ship when they took off so she's a tag-along.

 

Yeah. That's my exact feeling. Luffy is a guy that sticks to his promises. That's been like one of his top 3 immutable traits from the onset of the manga. Not even two pages before telling Jinbe to set up the meeting, he was screaming about "never forgiving Bege".

That tea party is gonna be a MAJOR clusterfuck.

 

And to think, only half of the Straw Hats are even there.

 

Whew! My biggest concern from the last chapter has finally been resolved.

Luffy got his tooth back!

 

Now I can't be 100% sure I remember everything, but I think this is the first time that Luffy will be legitimately trying to work together with someone he doesn't implicitly trust. This should be very interesting.

 

I guess Crocodile during Impel Down and Marineford would count.

 

Well, that sounds like a foolproof plan where absolutely nothing will go wrong.

Read; I fully expect everything this chapter described to not even approach what will actually happen in the slightest.

 

A rule of fiction is that if a plan is discussed in depth absolutely nothing will go right.

Yeah, that was a bit weird, but what pissed me off quite a bit was this.

I dunno DerHesse. It might be a bit much to stuff into just two pages, but this adds another layer to the so far entirely one-dimensional character of Pudding, even if it wasn't handled without some awkwardness. I actually liked it.

 

I actually liked, that she was bad and loved it. Most of the time the pretty females are never full-blown evil and usually have some redeeming features.

 

Isn't it the power of the Mirror fruit?

 

Way back in the beginning of the arc. Luffy and Co went into the forest where there were multiple copies of them. I missed that it was the Mirror fruits power.


By the way, is it possible that Pudding changed Big Mom's memory to believe that her third eye was super important?

 

I'm fine with the eye thing, because....well, it's One Piece. Characters are always overly bombastic and dramatic, prone to being over the top and can be...weird. So, yeah, it's sudden and fairly unbelievable but I think that's part of the point? I don't know, I'll at least give it the benefit of the doubt.
