I know there is already a thread, but it's 2 years old.

Wheel of Time has been picked up by Sony and will finally move forward into production despite the god awful "pilot" from a few years back.

Discussion of who should play who will ensue I'm sure.

Only actor I'm really set on is Dylan O'brien for Matrim

I know it would never happen, but I fully endorse Chris Pratt as Rand Al Thor.

    Wasn't Rand in his teens?

So were the Winterfell lads. Jon was 13 iirc and now he's a sex symbol for angsty women who are too old to be reasonably angsty.

There was that god-awful 20 minute adaption of the opening scene of Eye of the World a few years back. Lew Therin and Ishmael. I wanna say it starred... Billy Zane, and it as a blatant attempt to hold onto the TV rights by using the property.

See if I can find it - yeah, here we are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZOCCEuROPk

Rand was 19 in eye of the world, almost 20 if I remember correctly.

Personally I'm hopeful that this could be good as a tv series. In my opinion WoT became a bloated mess in later books and for it to do well, it requires some heavy cutting on the unnecessary filler.

A lack of excruciatingly unnecessary details should help. I appreciate world-building as much as the next guy, but when you're spending pages on fashion trends, you've probably gone too far.

I love WoT when it started, but towards the end I was reading it just to see how it finished. I mean it might actually be suited to a TV series given how many views you get, but in reality it would be well over 20 seasons long if they want to stay true to the books.

If they don't stay true to the books with all the different views, then it might actually be a story worth watching anyway.

Somewhat optimistic that this won't be a complete shitfest.

Honestly speaking they can condense a lot of things without taking anything away from the story. If they spend a bit less time spent on descriptions, Rand brooding and side quests you could have one season per book pretty easily.
Think that's just me getting my hopes up though.

I have absolutely no faith that this will be anything other than godawful. I don't know how you can tell the full WoT story on screen without cutting out huge chunks of it. Admittedly, there is a lot of fat that could be trimmed, especially in the middle books, but there's still a lot of stuff that happens in a short period of time. I also think that at least half of the characters would be utterly insufferable on screen. The Gawyn chapters were bad enough in the books, imagine how mopey he'd be on tv.

Tbh, I'm probably too invested in the books to give a different adaptation a fair try, but nothing I've seen about this so far makes me optimistic.
