Theirs a theory about Hagrid's death. Something to do with alchemy, and Sirius (Black-Impurities) Dumbledore (Albus-White) and Hargid (Rubeus-Red). I read that somewhere.

I think that Harry is going to be a pussy, until Ginny dies midway. then he's going to practice the Dark Arts and kill tom. Well, that wants I want anyway.

I dont think she's said Ginny will live yet, but that's just grasping for straws.

It almost seems too cliche for the final battle to take place at Hogwarts but it just seems to fit perfectly.

But then again I don't see JKR writing a huge battle scene for the final battle.

Thats the one real question i have about book 7. Who finds who and where?

I just pray that its one on one and not the trio vs voldemort.

It would make sence thou trio Vs Voldemort. Each of them is rather pathetic by themselves but together they are ok. No one of them would have been able to get the PS but together thay can. It just seems the type of think JK would do.

Rowling seems to favour sending Harry to fight Voldemort alone. Books 1, 2 and 4 suggest that at least. And he also was separated from his friends when he saw Sirius die and also when he went after Snape. I suspect she's enamoured with the whole lone hero bit. Certainly the prophecy tends to point to that, no matter how many fan writers out there try to read it otherwise.

But you're right. Canon Harry's got a whole lot of bark and no bite. He couldn't even hit Snape when his back was turned. Of course, that never stopped Rowling before. The first four books, and the fifth one to a certain extent, all featured pretty Deus ex macchina endings. The only question I have is: now that Dumbledore's dead, who's going to give the post-defeat explanation as to what precisely happened?

"Oh, my mother's love protected me? Thanks for the memo."
"Oh, I called Fawkes? Glad to know."
    "Time Turner? Good luck."
    "Brother wands? Fancy that."

Ah well, I'm sure people have flogged this shit to death. Still, I kind of wanted my kick at the cat.

As for book 7, I imagine it's going to have a continued focus on the explorative quality that all the previous books have regarding the wizarding world. Fundamentally, HP is a boarding school story first, and a war over good and evil second. I expect that we'll get a nauseating amount of information over the magical eccentricities peculiar to a wizarding wedding and various other filler-esque things.

It will probably feature the three of them fighting, then Ron and Hermione get stuck behind, and Harry runs off to defeat Voldemort by himself...which is an ending I kind of prefer. Leaves alot of room for interesting banter...you know Voldemort is the type to Monologue it a bit before trying to finish off Harry in a blaze of fury.

Rowling mentioned a bit about someone doing magic really late in life...I'm really curious as to who...and why.

The thing that Rowling also promised, which I'm looking forward to, is the information about why some wizards die and become ghosts while others do not. She said she'd explain that, but I'm not sure. Don't ask me why I'm interested, for some reason I think I'll find her explanation interesting.

Sounds like the ending to PS.

I don't really understand how harry could possibly have a chance alone against Voldemort without some outside help (aurors/magic super outpwning power, whatever) From what i read of the prophesy, Harry just has to deliver the killing blow, not fight him.

On the flip side, what happens if Voldemort kills harry, does he become even more powerful or can he still be killed, ignoring the Bruxelles? So Voldemort shoots harry down, and then hermione or some idiot weasley nails voldemort from behind during voldemorts triumphant speech.

Harry dies then as voldemort says " I am invincible", the lurv harry's friends felt for him gives them the power to say win gardium leviosa, and drop him. Because we all know that harry's friends don't have the balls to say avada kedava.

Heh, or he turns into a computer hacker and flicks his wand around and harry replaces it with a exploding wand courtesy of the weasley twins and then just as he thinks he won, tanks of liquid nitrogen explode and freeze him to death.

How original. Will Pierce Brosnan star as Harry Potter?

Methinks that Harry will do his little scavenger hunt, both will die in the final battle, and a semi-happy ending. Since the last word of the story is scar, we can only assume one of three things:

    1. Harry has died, and a temporal paradox has formed as Harry is transported into the body of his on-year old self, remembering nothing of future events.
    2. Harry has died, and there's no scar to be found on his forehead.
    3. Harry has died, after knocking up Ginny, and in some mad, mad moment of "grief", "sorrow" and "pain", Ginny has taken a razor blade and carved a little lightning bolt into the baby's head.

Read below for future canon timeline.

Don't forget: "Potters all look the same, are male, have the same names - most of the time in reverse order, and are attracted to redheads", therefore the weird fangirl disease Ginny suffers from will focus her insane lust on her son, at which point the son becomes her sex-slave. Having been scarred by these events for fifteen or so years... Harry Junior...? will be a retarded flaming homosexual, and have touchy-feely buttsechs with Draco and Snape, who've survived.

    Oh, can't forget the shitbabies.
    There'll be lots.

That way, Rowling's checked off all her criteria:

    - Appeal to the fangirls, both slash and het
    - Harry is dead
    - Huey Lewis and the News get their fair share from "the power of Lurrrrrrrve"
    - Multiple major character deaths
    - "You-Know-Who" is vanquished
    - Killing off the beloved Harry/Lily pairing, by making it exatcly like Ginny/Retarded!Harry Jr.
    - And the last word of canon is "scar"

@ TheInquisition: Sir, you paint a grim and desperate picture of a bleak and terrible future. Bad, bad TheInquisition.

For the sake of some serious speculation, not to mention so I can say 'I told you so!' when I'm proven right, here are my ideas on a few 'revelations' in Bk 7:

    0. The book will suck - This is inevitable.

    1. Neville/Luna (*shudders*) - because they're the only unattached secondary characters, and since Nev's almost TBWL he's naturally going to be important.

    2. I don't think JKR will kill one half of any of the major pairings, because it would severely darken the mood at the end of the book; everybody celebrating with their lovers except for the odd-one-out survivor. So if she does kill off one half of a pairing (Say, Ron) she'll also kill the other half (Hermione) before or during the final battle.

Note: The pairings I'm considering have this protection are: Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, Bill/Fleur, Remus/Tonks, Mr Weasley/Mrs Weasley and Neville/Luna. Every other 'background' couple like Hagrid/Mm. Maxime are fair game (Though it would impossible to only kill off half of Malfoy/Himself, of course).

Exception: I could see her killing off half-'ships if the survivor gets re-paired before the end of the book; (EG Ron and Ginslut die, H/Hr get together)

    3. The book will largely be set during Hogwarts. In an interview she mentioned "This is the final chapter of book seven. This is really where I wrap everything up, it's the epilogue. And I basically say what happens to everyone after they leave school - those who survive" (Taken from Wikipedia entry for Deadly Hallows; emphasis is my own), which IMO is an accidental slip that the core cast will still be at Hoggy Warty Hogwarts for their 7th year.

    4. Redeemed Wormtail - I think the Life Debt thing from PoA is one of the loose ends that will be tied up before the end of the book. Specifically, I think he's going to be mortally wounded saving Harry's life, possibly in a clash with Greyback (Silver hand, as has been mentioned before) and die in front of Harry just after saying something fluffy and trite about how the Marauders years were the best time of his life and he hopes they'll forgive him when he sees them again, or something equally vomit-worthy.

    5. Hagrid will be the character who suddenly does magic 'late in life' - Because how many other characters are there who can be described as such while not already capable of magic? The only other who springs to mind is Petunia, and it's been stated it won't be her. (I know, Hagrid's already been seen to do magic, but I think this is going to be a drastic change to what we've seen; him getting an actual wand, for example, allowing him to cast spells useful for things other than gardening.)

    6. Book 7 will span summer 1997 to october 1998, action-wise, plus however far into the future the aforementioned epilogue covers - The title of the book is 'Deadly Hallows', which makes me think that All Hallows Eve, or Halloween, will be the date of the final battle/showdown. This is supported by the fact that in each of the first 4 books major events have happened on Halloween:
PS - Potters killed, The Troll
    CoS - Basilisk first released
PoA - Sirius breaks into the castle
    GoF - Triwizard competitors announced
Similarly, Harry and Voldie's final showdown occurring on the same day as their first gives the whole thing a nice dramatic, circular feeling. The war will be over by November 1st 1998. This setting will also allow the kids to get their 7th year out the way and have time for a nice scavenger hunt.
Note: I'm not 100% certain that it will be the Halloween of 1998 that sees the showdown; it could be a later year than that, but I suspect 1998 will be the case because of the emphasis on 'after they leave school' in the above quote; any later than 1998 and the whole cast will have already left (whereas in '98 Ginny and Luna will still be there).

    7. Snape will be redeemed, as will Malfoy - Dumbles conspired with Snape to allow Malfoy to succeed in his mission without being tainted by murder. Sadly that sacrifice won't be in vain. Snape will very probably die, possibly after saving Harry and saying something about the life debt being over, plus something mildly acidic, simply because he wouldn't fit into a 'Good triumphs!' HPverse. Malfoy, annoyingly, will most likely survive.

    8. Harry will be saved by some extremely unlikely Deus Ex Machina - Because he always has been before, and it's the only way he can beat Voldie (I hesitate to use the phrase 'realistically' there, because it won't be). I suspect this will tie up many loose ends, almost certainly involving Dumbles' triumph at Voldie using Harry's blood back in book 4 and quite possibly having something to do with Lily's eyes as well. The Power of Love being involved is, of course, a given here.

    9. The Horcrux Hunt will be improbably easy - Specifically, the hardest part will be tracking down the locket (Probably in Borgin and Burke's by now); once aquired, opening it will reveal another note from RAB which will either tell them where to look for *all* the other Horcruxes, or pointing them to one Horcrux, which will in turn have a note saying where to find the next, and so on. Naturally, these notes won't make everything plain and obvious; they'll hint at locations and give clues to defenses, all of which can easily be deciphered by a 7th year student with access to the Hogwarts Library. Access to the restricted section may be necessary as well.

    10. The Sword of Gryffindor will, naturally, make a dramatic and important reappearance; it will most likely be bequeathed to Harry in Dumbles' will, or else there'll be a mention along the lines of 'The sword isn't mine to give - it has already chosen Harry to be it's wielder'. It probably has some sort of special ability to destroy Horcruxes, or focus the Power of Love (or destroy Horcruxes by focusing the Power of Love).

    11. Voldemort will die - 'Either must die by the hand of the other' is not going to be open to interpretation here; one will definitely die, and that one is going to be Voldemort. I suspect Harry will probably survive for similar reasons; JKR may even go with the horribly cliche trick ending of Harry appearing to be dead, Ginny (Or Hermione. I mean I know there's no way we'll get H/Luna; she's too 'alternative' to be the Hero's love interest, but come on, even HBP-Herman's a vast improvement on the Ginslut) sobbing over his apparent corpse crying 'But only one of you was supposed to die!' and Harry's eyes then fluttering open and her kissing him.

    12. The last word will probably be 'Scar' - but it won't be anything important plot-wise; JKR's already said the last chapter will be cleanup of the 'and they all lived happily ever after' variety, so it's not going to be some sort of last minute twist ending, more's a pity. I'm leaning towards it being something along the line of 'On Halloween 2000, two years after Voldemort's defeat, Harry and Ginny celebrated the birth of their first son, James Ronald Potter, a healthy baby boy in every way save a small birthmark on his forehead that looked a lot like his father's famous scar.' or something equally loathesome.

    13. Ron will die - I know this because I have sacrificed a number of souls to certain dark gods to ensure it occurs, and if he survives both I and Cthulhu are going to be very annoyed.

I'll add in other speculations if I think of them. I've just got one more thing I'd like to add though; I'm not sure who first mentioned that JKR had said that two people would die in book 7, but whoever it was misquoted; what she said was: "One character got a reprieve, but I have to say two die that I didn't intend to die..." (Again, from the Wikipedia entry for book 7, in this case quoting an interview on Richard and Judy) in other words prior to writing book 7 she had already decided who would live and who wouldn't. Since then, two more have copped it and one of the ones intended to die won't. We still don't know the final total for how many will die, plus the above shows that she does change her mind while writing; it may be that she'll add in even more deaths, or take out ones she'd already planned, so really we're all in the dark. That said, she did hint in that same quote that those extra deaths might be of main characters - "They go for the main characters, or I do". Of course, we don't know who JKR considers a 'main character', so IMO that's not too useful of course. (I'm still smarting from OotP when, based on JKR going on about how important the character killed would be, I was smugly expecting Ron to kick the bucket. Sirius, who was almost a complete nonentity at the time, was not who I expected to go)

    Here's a little tid-bit for your thoughts.
It is confirmed that there is 7 horcruxes correct?

    Well...there's also 7 books.

I do not know why Voldemort chose 7 as the number of horcruxes, but that doesn't really matter that much to me..

But as I saying, 7 horcruxes, 7 books.
What if there was a horcrux in each book?

    Book 1 - Voldemort himself
    Book 2 - The Diary
    Book 3 - The Cup (1)
    Book 4 - Nagini (2)
    Book 5 - The Locket (3)
    Book 6 - The Ring (4)
    Book 7 - Harry (5)

We all know for a fact that the diary was a horcrux
Voldemort has to be a horcrux himself...if not...then he wouldn't be walking around killing people and etc...

Now here's the part where it gets tricky...and this is all ideas. Nothing more, nothing less...just ideas.

1 - Voldemort gets a cup off of Hepzipah Smith, or at least that we asume. the cup is Helga Hufflepuff's. Voldemort, knowing that the cup is the heirloom of Hufflepuff, consideres this powerful, thus...*poof* a horcrux.

2 - Nagini. It is not 100% confirmed that a living thing may be a horcrux, but Nagini being Voldemorts familiar, would only expect that if in fact living things can be horcruxes, Nagini would be one.

3 - The Locket. No...really? The locket is indeed 100% confirmed, a horcrux. Why is this marked? Because in HBP, Harry and Dumbledore went out to destroy the said locket, but it turned out to be fake.
So where is the locket in book 5?
Someone by the name R.A.B. stolen the locket. So, by theory, if R.A.B. is Sirius' bother as many spectulate it to be, Regulus would of put it, if anywhere, in Grimmauld place. So maybe, the locket is in Grimmauld place.

4 - The Ring. Dumbledore destroyed this horcrux already, not many people know of this, but it is, re-read book 6, you'll see it.

5 - Harry. Mother of all theories here!
I'm just going to be sweet and short. Think about it. Voldemort marked him as his 'equal'. This doesn't just mean the scar. Voldemort could of marked harry as his equal by making harry a horcrux. Hmm? HMM?!

So thats my 2 cents on the horcrux bid.

No. Harry will not die, and in order to kill Voldemort if he is indeed a Horcrux, he would have to die. Voldemort is confirmed to die. J.K said herself Harry will not die; Voldemort will die. So, number 5 is wrong. And as for number 3...Peter was just planning on escaping, and Voldemort was a ghost. Very little chance of getting the cup.

Oh jesus christ I just thought of something that will make me burn all my books and probably never read Harry Potter again.

If someone that "loves" Harry takes an AK from Voldemort to save Harry and then when Voldemort fires again the same protection happens again I'm going to lose it.

    At least Ginny would die.

Still, it can't be worse than the ending for the Psychic Serpent Trilogy by Barb. I can't believe her. I'm still looking for some sort of fanfic of a fanfic that can give me some closure on the damn story.

If Ginny dies then it would be a great lead into Dark Harry. He snaps and becomes the next Dark Lord after Ginny sacrifices herself.

That's a common misconception; there are in fact only six horcruxes PLUS Voldemort himself. The key difference being the horcruxes are items containing fragments of a soul; destroy the item, destroy the soul fragment, whereas the remaining piece of Voldemort's soul is capable of existing seperate to any physical container, which is what happens when he gets hit by his reflected AK back in 1981.

The reason for 7 pieces of soul total? Because 7 is apparently a number of great occult significance, and Voldemort believes that splitting his soul into such a number will give him power. It's worth noting this hasn't been confirmed canonically; we only hear him speculating about it to Slughorn, who claims that nobody's ever tried it before. For all we know doing so actually made him weaker. The point is also somewhat moot since 1/7th of his soul (assuming he actually made 6 horcruxes before october 31st 1981, which isn't a given) was destroyed in Harry's 2nd year, as was another 7th in Harry's 6th, meaning assuming Voldemort either can't or hasn't created more Horcruxes he's only got 5 soul-pieces, which despite being a prime number is not in fact magical.

Problem: Hufflepuff's cup is not the Goblet of Fire. The GoF is an ancient artifact, yes, but not associated with any Hogwarts founder. It's likely that prior to the summer after PoA (When Voldemort first learned that the Tournament was being revived) he'd never heard of the GoF, it being presumably in storage somewhere in Hogwarts, rather than in the hands of Hepzibah Smith. That aside, without bothering to pick up the books I'm sure the GoF was described as being very ornate, covered in gems etc, not to mention pretty damn big, whereas Hepzibah's goblet was a much more realistic size and somewhat plain, I think.

Possible, but more likely it was filched by Mundungus Fletcher and sold; there's a reason why he's seen selling property from Grimmauld Place in HBP, and most likely that reason is to set this up. You also neglected to mention that in OotP while the kids are cleaning out Grimmauld Place they came across a locket that nobody could open, generally suspected to be aforementioned locket-horcrux.

Overall, nice theory, but you neglected the fact that two of the horcruxes you mentioned (the Goblet and Nagini) both debuted in book 4; Nagini was first seen in a dream by Harry at the start of GoF in fact. It's still possible there was a horcrux in book 3 that went unnoticed, but nothing springs to mind.

Going back to my earlier speculation post, someone pointed out to me that I'd got the book title wrong; I'd read it as Deadly Hallows, whereas the title is in fact Deathly Hallows. For some reason that makes me think the emphasis is less on the time than it is the place. I'm not necessarily abandoning my theory that Halloween will be important, because I still consider the other reasons I suggested for that one valid, but the title has inspired a little more speculation on my part.

I think the final showdown will probably take place in a graveyard, possibly same graveyard that Voldemort was resurrected in, or the one in which Harry's parents were buried. Why do I think this? Firstly there's the title; 'Hallows' relates to a location of Hallowed, or Holy, ground, such as a graveyard attached to a church (Not sure how common these are outside of England, but they're pretty common here. Also not sure if graveyards in question count as hallowed ground, church or not) while Deathly? How much more deathly can you get? Add to that that I believe it's already been mentioned that Harry will visit his parents' graves at some point, and I think we have a reasonable theory. Similarly to the Halloween showdown idea it also has a nice completeness to it; Voldemort was resurrected in a graveyard, now he dies in one. It's mainly for that reason that I suggest the graveyard for the showdown may in fact be the same one near the Riddle house from GoF.

Well, a little more food for thought there anyway, I hope.

What interests me most is how Harry is going to find and destroy the Horcruxes. I'm afraid that Rowling will have resorted to some pathetic Deus ex machina device, because there is really no alternative. Think about it: it took Dumbledore, the only wizard as powerful as Voldemort, many years to find but two Horcruxes, and both times he tried to lay his hands on them, he nearly died. Harry cannot possibly dispose of four Horcruxes in one year in a plausible way; he can only do it R.A.B.'s way. What would R.A.B.'s way have been, then? All I can come up with is this: R.A.B., whoever he or she was, stumbled upon something like a notebook with A List of My Horcruxes With Their Exact Locations and Ways of Bypassing Their Magical Protections, In Case I Forget written on the first page in Voldemort's hand. And it is this notebook that Harry will find in one of the early chapters, most probably accompanied with a note from R.A.B. beginning with the words "To the one who comes after me". With this instruction, finding and destroying the Horcruxes will become a pretty much mechanical task, although some unexpected shit will, of course, happen, as it always does in works of fiction. Pathetic? Yes, but I see no alternative (which doesn't mean, of course, that there isn't one).

For some reason, the idea of Dudley gaining magic won't go away...
