I've not read the books but I'm honestly not feeling that confused.... Although I could turn out to be entirely wrong.

Old dude/Mr Wednesday/Odin seems to be trying to unite the Old Gods into retaining some power in the face of the New Gods who are the personifications of the internet and tv and things like that - Shadow is his chosen champion due to some as yet unknown reason. Most of the gods are just looking to regain power and recognition and all seem to require some blood or life sacrifice.

It's a brilliant show so far and I'm looking forward to being wrong or right. First time in a long time I'm really looking forward to future episodes of a series.

Watched the two episodes and loved it, researching the various deities yield interesting results.
Especially Disney was the first to bring Chernobog to TV

In the book, the first 100 pages or so are essentially, "Uh... What?" I mean, it's told from the point of view of a very ignorant protagonist, so that helps it some, but in general the subject matter is a little weird. I guess when 'gods' can be
    taxi cab drivers
, things stop being easy to follow? Well, actually, that's not that uncommon of a trope now that I think of it.

I haven't seen anything of the show yet. How faithful is it to the book? The book's a bit on the raunchy & weird side.

    I mean

Bilquis has swallowed several lovers into her galaxy vagina, and we've seen an erect cock. So pretty raunchy?

The Mr Nancy/Anansi scene was like sosososososo good. Im loving this show so much. I mean Shadow kinda needs to get a clue and follow up more on getting answers to his own questions but ahhhh so good. The casting is A fucking plus.

Two episodes in, and they've confirmed the second series (Gaiman has estimated that it'll take about five series to cover the book).

Stunning. Just up my alley. I'm staying away from the book until the series ends, to avoid the risk of what happened with The Expanse.

If there are really gonna be 5 seasons of this I'd just read the book. It's hefty but there is only one of them. Plus it been out 10 years, statistically, there is no way you are going to make it to the end without shit getting spoiled. Hell the great mystery of who Wednesday is has ben spoiled at the top of this page.

In all honesty, I think its even more enjoyable knowing whats going on.

Five seasons? Since the book could be easily done in one, there is going to be a lot of new material added.

But it's in his name. Wednesday comes from Woden's Day. Woden being another name for Odin.

Do they not teach this at school in the US?

No, not really. Norse Mythology isn't near the top of the list of what's considered important to learn.

When any mythology is taught, it's mostly Greek.

New episode was awesome. I was pretty impressed they went as far as they did with the jinn. That's two erect wangs and an explicit gay sex scene in the span of three episodes. That's gotta be some sort of record for American TV.

I have to admit, I wasn't watching too closely, but the beginning shot to me just looked an - incredibly impressive - quarter chub.

I've got to say, the dynamic between Wednesday and Shadow is brilliant. McShane is particularly incredible.

This show has been so consistently good. It's beautiful to look at, the acting is great and even the things they say are hilarious. I've been responding with "I pay my rent on time even!" whenever someone asks me how I'm doing. Because Reasons.

God, that scene with Anubis and the old woman...this isn't just a great show, it's a beautiful show. Self-indulgent, even. You can feel and see the passion that's gone into it.

Yeah, agreed. I absolutely love the vignette style scenes at the beginning and mid episode. Do they loop into the narrative at all? Or is it just an exercise in introducing us to the other gods?

I've heard the first book is going to take 3 seasons to tell, while seasons 4 and 5 cover the sequel that has yet to be published.

Anubis and Anansi make an appearance in the story proper later on (or do in the book; it's a big section, so I assume it'll be in the show, although probably not this series). Bilquis appears twice in the book; her second scene in the show is an addition.
