Backup rolecop spec in my case comes from a combination of this, setup symmetry (rolecop + backup + roleblocker + backup + 5th just seems neater), and the fact that the rolecop is clearly supposed to help aim the roleblocker so having a backup for the roleblocker and NOT the rolecop is weird.

Uh, no, it's the opposite of that. Cobalt being town would mean Cobalt was a tracker, which would mean MORE town power. The point I was making is that rolecop/roleblocker scale up in strength the more power town has, so they're to some degree entirely balance-independent of town's power.

As for the Cobalt flip, in what way did that make Kai look better than the person who literally vigged a scum?

And Kai was pretty much hard clear via interactions with Cobalt and the fact that setup-wise it just doesn't work if he's also mafia. There's a difference between that and a read like "that person feels town".

Yeah, there were two large reasons I thought you were town, already gone into this. I think I even made a post D2 of "Force myself to come back to this to prove that DC is town because I'm starting to worry about his play" (I can grab it if need be) but referred to the timing of your Zenzao defence and his scum claim not fitting scum talk which scum likely just don't have. Also town read your play in general D1 and very early D2 but since then I haven't at all?

Which is fine, except for the bit where there's an underlying assumption that nothing new could happen that would then shake up a Kai townread in the same way. Recall that I hard towned Cobalt for interactions with Zen and look how THAT turned out. It's certainly more likely to happen to Kai than it is to Vaimes, and like I said before they could roleblock PR!Kai rather than killing him if they had a non-specific PR read on him.
