Break the sky is pretty good and while I didn't love it, I did enjoy it for the most part. I didn't think it was nearly as "angsty" as some other stuff I've read. I agree that it felt natural in that way. I know some people don't like present tense in fanfiction, but it doesn't bother me. I do agree on a few points with Mercenary. [Spoiler] Last time this updated was over a year ago, though, which sucks.
So, I've been struggling to find a decent Naruto story to read, but recently I came upon this story: The Spring of the Plague by Zenthisoror, which is a Naruto fanfiction about a mysterious plague that's affecting ninja. I like what I've read so far, but I'm not too far in yet, so that could change. The characters are all written well enough and the writing is decent, though there are a few errors here and there. One criticism I had is actually summed up quite nicely by one of the...
I don't know, I don't really like it. There just doesn't seem to be anything that interesting about Konohas Maelstorm. And all the library nonsense at the beginning just reminds me of Arthur singing about how great it is to have a library card. Libraries are all find and good, but I just don't think it's a way Naruto would ever be able to learn. Besides, soooo many fics have him suddenly studying for hours on end and musing on the nature of chakra. That's boring to read about, imo....
Kill Your Heroes by Evil Is A Relative Term is a Sakura centric story that I was pleasantly surprised to discover. The author also wrote Five Kingdoms for the Dead, which is probably the most popular Sakura centric story I can think of. I did like FKftD, but I thought it had some problems, which I won't discuss right now. Anyway, back to Kill Your Heroes. Like FKftD, the author doesn't really read over their stuff so careful because there are still some oddly worded sentences and a few...
The author tends to be pretty long winded. But it's a good time waster until about chapter 60, which is as far as I made.
In the Blood by justplainrii is pretty good, I think. The basic plot is that Sasuke, while leading a genin team, happens upon a boy who looks exactly like Itachi. I won't spoil the rest. It's a behemoth of a fic and I actually haven't finished it, but I think it might sate your desire for a post-shippuden fic. Let me know what you think.
Nice find, Joncis. There's a certain charming and endearing feeling to this, which is exactly what I like. It's difficult to find good fics with Sakura as the main character so this was pretty refreshing. Also, while I'd like to see more, the author ended this really well.
I definitely agree with you on the characterization. I especially like Itachi's characterization. I'm not sure it will ever be finished though, there's still so much more to resolve in the story and the author doesn't update it often, unfortunately.
This is the best one that I've found: I haven't read many romance fics, but this one was pretty decent.
I'd completely forgotten about Sakura and Tsunade in this, and you're absolutely right about that aspect of the story. I think 2.5-3/5 is fair from what I've re-read today. Still, as far as Sensei!Naruto goes, it's not the worst I've ever read.
I finished this in about 2010, so I'm not sure how it holds up. It might be shit. As I'm sure you know, most Sensei!Naruto fics are terrible. Let me know if it's ok.
Haven't seen this one in a while, haha. I read it around 2011, so my memory of this fic is fuzzy. I do remember that it was an interesting take on Naruto hokage stories, at the very least.
Good rec. It's actually pretty decent so far and it's got a pretty good update rate too. I've run low on new and good Naruto fanfiction, so this is very welcome! :)
I really liked Signs and New Perspective. Never really got into The Melt even though it's been very popular for a long time. I even tried reading it a few times, which is more than I can say for most. The beginning always throws me off for some reason.
I'm interested in the Orochimaru/Naruto idea as well. Unfortunately, there are very few good ones. Most dissolve pretty quickly from what I've seen.
Seriously? I remember reading that a long time ago. The only memorable thing I can recount is that Naruto and Mei (and maybe Hanabi?) were the feature characters. I remember liking it a lot when I read it.
