I dunno, axes are kinda cool, but just to big and clumsy for me, i would prefer like a claymore for Griffindor, and a katana for Slytherin, kinda pictured Ravenclaw as a currcular shield and Hufflepuff with a bow

In that thing you call a closet. Better watch out,
This maybe a little over the top in weapons, but I thought they all used....WANDS. Not regular wands, but special wand's.

Like Rowena has a wand that specializes in Charms and Runes. Godric in Transfiguration and Defense.

Salazar in the Dark Arts and Offensive magic. Helga in Healing and Herbology spells. Ones that can control plants. The wands though have runes and have the school color on them.

I disagree about the transfiguration and defense... Those employ more of a strategy orientated battle plan (see definition of Slytherin) than they do a battle plan based on strength (see definition of Gryffindor)

Well, double edged swords/blades have been the more generic weapons of choice for many different groups during the middle ages and far earlier. Could be the versatility of these weapons over something else like axes. Mainly you can stab/thrust or swing with a one handed double edged sword with roughly equal efficiency without sacrificing all of your def or movement. You might get more power with an axe in your swings, but you can't stab with it at all.

What about an enchanted morning star? A brash but versatile weapon. Slytherin, a sword breaker and a poisoned knife. The other two what most said, a bow and quarterstaff for Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.

I was just saying that wands weren't as prominant back then as now so they used other forms to focus their magic. Like swords, staffs etc. Especially if you are a warrior mage its could be that they used spells for long range effect before closing in for close combat.

If there was equal rights for women in the wizarding world...

I picture the women with a lightweight weapon or none at all...After all poison is supposedly women's best weapon

Godric, something blatantly masculine, Salazar, something subtle with lots of extra trix up his sleeves.

When I read the second book, I pictured Godirc's sword as a claymore (think Braveheart), not that little piece of tinfoil that Harry pulled out in the second movie. I reckon that Salazar would probably carry a set of knives, both of the throwing and hunting variety. For Rowena and Helga, I agree with the others, a bow and a quaterstaff, either respectively, or inversely, doesn't matter.

Only problem is, that if someone is reading through the previous posts and isn't wasn't there to read the original threads he or she has no way of finding the original topic being discussed...in this case the Harry Potter Linebacker fic with Merlin as coach...

Nah, axe is too messy for Slytherin. He likes stealth, remember?

Long knife, daggers, or short swords, probably poisoned, woudl probably suit him better.

I think the sword thing is coz JKR likes her phallic symbols; swords , wands, snakes.
But also Godric was into hanging with muggles so he'd need a sword unless he didn't want to get burnt by religious nuts.
Also he stirkes me as an armor clad dumb knight.

Slytherin on the other hand would probably be more into poison or a magical dagger/weapons like Artemis Entreri/Drow from forgotten realms. Salazar would also be able to set a Basilisk on his enemies so wouldn't need weapons.

Ravenclaw would probably use either a crossbow/Longbow cause she wouldn't be stupid enough to get too close to an enemy.

Hufflepuff was an hard worker so I see her weilding a sickle/scythe because she also seemed to work with the land.
