You know, the movies are actually pretty good stories - if you treat them as fanfiction that tries to stick to canon.

I'm watching the new movie. The characters are completely unexplained right now, the plot makes no sense, but the action scenes are pretty good. One of the new villain chicks is pretty hot too. I'm only 45 minutes in, though. Lee + Neji's combination attack is insanely awesome, too.

This takes place before the Pein invasion, though. Jiraya's alive. Kinda depressing.

Edit: ... The hell? Giant siege machines are awesome. Konoha has giant missile - er kunai - launchers, Suna's got giant shuriken launchers.

Edit2: Gaara has sand teleportation powers? What?

Edit3: This is turning into a live-blog of the movie. What the hell? Naruto can use Kage Bunshin as ropes to jump between mountains, or to throw copies of himself instead of shuriken. THIS is the Gaara fight we should have seen.

Edit4: The movie totally makes fun of the Yaoi fangirls. Especially the Kakashi/Naruto ones. I just finished watching it - the main part that makes it incredibly watchable? No Sasuke.

 

Which one is it, the third? I heard the 4th movie was coming this summer, youtube preview/trailer/teaser/whatever showed Naruto vs the 4th :lol:

 

A bit late to bring this up, but I just noticed this in the Naruto 492 chapter. There's a lot of difference in the translations between the chapter in One-Manga and the chapter in MangaStream. So much in fact, that they change the whole tone of the conversation. For example:

Apart from the obvious reasons, I like the Mangastream (second one) translations because of their attention to detail (Shown in Bee's rap book in Page 1-2).

So, while I personally prefer the MangaStream translations, I wouldn't mind knowing which one is more technically correct.

Could someone who knows the original language please clarify?

 

I heard something about the movie.

IT WAS HORRIBLE.

It was even worse than the pre-timeskip anime fillers. At least they had a shoddily build casual plot. This didn't have even that. And the movie made no sense at all.

So this guy (used to be a Konoha nin, is a trap) knew the sannin when they were all kids, developed chimera jutsu which lets him absorb people and power-up. Then he started sucking bloodlines. He's obtained four bloodlines, and at 5, he'd be immortal. Basic villain so far, but...

He announces with a giant projection that the entire world sees that he's about to obtain the fifth bloodline soon, and that he declares was on the world. Everything goes mad after that, and the 4th Ninja War is about to begin. 'The greatest threat we've ever faced' and all that crap. He's several times said to be invincible, and impossible to fight against.

Kakashi was apparently under a puppet technique for over 10 years, and the bad guy wants Sharingan, so Kakashi is mind controlled and leaves the village. Naruto wants to chase him, and Sakura joins him. The rest of the Rookie 9 and Gaara are adamant about not letting Naruto get to Kakashi, because Kakashi's sacrifice to the bad guy is apparently the only way to resolve the issue.

Became too much of a plot summary, but... The plot is ridiculous and stupid, the characters and their reasoning is WTF-worthy, people pull weird knowledge out of their asses, people use new techniques, the villain's minions are utterly pathetic.

And the ending was horrible too.

The only thing it had decently done was the combat.

I didn't enjoy it one bit, and its ridiculousness made me facepalm several times.

1/5, do not watch.

 

Did Naruto win with a rasengan that was powered up with an extremely convenient alternate energy source?

Strangely enough, he just used his Fuuton: Rasenshuriken.

The plot was horrible, I just ignored it. Watch it for the action and new character designs.

 

The new chapter is up. Im looking forward to finding out about Bee's past. Big shocker in the newest chapter Naruto cant beat Naruto. Who could have seen that coming.

Bee's past sounds like it will be interesting.

Somewhat disappointed we did not get to see more of evil-Naruto, but I imagine we will later one once Naruto realizes he can not defeat the evil inside himself just by punching it in the face.

 

Don't diss anime filler. Shit is great for plotting out fan fiction.

 

Wholeheartedly disagree.

Much of the anime filler spits in the face of canon concepts in a bad way. The only things I'd ever use from filler are locations.

 

I just like the filler because it gives Naruto the fangirls that he sorely lacks in canon, lol.

 

The filler has it good points and bad points, although it bears mentioning that the Shippuden fillers have been a substantial improvement.

The fillers were pretty good for fleshing out some of the characters that did not much screen time in the manga; I pretty much had to rely on stuff from the fillers to get a good idea of Tenten's characterization for Cutting Loose, because the manga does not provide much to work with. The one-off comedy fillers were also sometimes reasonably amusing, especially the episode where Team 7 tried to find out what was under Kakashi's mask.

The big downside, aside from the general problems of all filler, was that the plots were all utterly predictable formulaic plots that contained all of the following elements:

1) A male ninja Naruto's age who will form a rivalry with him, but ultimately earn his respect.
2) A general decrease in Naruto's competence and intelligence.
2) A group of bad guys equal in number to the Konoha ninja present.
3) A bad guy who kicks Naruto's ass, until Naruto gets pissed and uses the Rasengan.

Nice issue, and at least the flashback story was reasonably interesting and did not get dragged out for way too long.

I'm rather worried about what Kishimoto has planned. In chapter 493, the 8-Tails says

I really hope he doesn't have a change of heart for the 9-Tails planned.

 

However it goes, I got the feeling that we'll have a resolution to the 'control the Kyuubi' sub-plot soon. In the next couple chapters, hopefully?
Yeah, I liked this chapter. There's some advancement of plot and we got to see the ninja of Kumo a bit more.
