Yeah, gift, plus hell, once I get it set up with the homebrew flash card shit, I'll grab another one for the kids for Xmas, and we can play in the car on the way from school.

    Uh.

Mid, which one did you get?

Regular DS has plenty of Flashcarts, however as far as I am aware DSi only have one.

Though to be honest I've been out of the loop since my R4 ceased receiving support.

    Okay.

So, you don't 'hack' DS's so much as simply running games off of the flash cart. No actual modification of the console nessesary, just buy the card, chuck the games on it, or movies, or music, and play.

Personally I think the sound on them is pretty shit, movie quality is alright if you can deal with the miniscule screen.

Has some awesome games though, that's for sure.

I have an R4. Bought mine for around $50 for a 2GB. They are pretty easy to use, download the homebrewfrom the a NDS site, i dunno what site and put it on your DS.

Don't really use it much, but i know you can watch movies and listen to music on one.

Haven't heard of the the other ones you mentioned.

    Get m3.

I have an R4 but they ceased supporting it.

And without constant updates you can't play the newer games. :(

Get the R4 and go to GBAtemp.net to get the Ys menu. That's the new version of firmware for the standard R4s now since the official company stopped working on it and changed over to the R4i.

R4 I read alot of reviews about it being not as current, I'm gonna get the M3 DS Real Perfect Bundle, with an 8gb card. I like the CyclosDS, but it doesn't really seem any different from the M3, and it's cheaper. Unless something comes up in the next few hours I'll order the M3

I use the TTDS cards and they work great. From what I understand it's better to use a few smaller cards(1-2 gb) rather than bigger 4 gb cards, It has more lifetime or something that way.

    Edit:

The cards are awesome by the way, can play games online and everything, also it's a really simple process :D

Yeah I read something like that too, but it was more don't put more then xxx files in any one subfolder of NDS or the card will eventually slow to a halt.

    Edit: Anyone have the M3?

Semi-necro bump because I just happen to know a fuckton about this subject.

There exists a myriad of flash carts and most of them are utter shit. Back in the old days you basically had three serious brands, SuperCard, M3 and R4. The R4 was without a doubt the one that performed the best and it became the de-facto must-own flash cart. Fast forward three years and the R4 team got into some legal issues and dropped off the face of the earth, leaving the R4 without support and updates and relying on user patches to specific games. Furthermore in the wake of it's death several people decided to capitalize off of this and released fake R4 flash carts usually under some new witty name like "R4 II" or "R4 Gold". Needless to say, as with most cheap copies - they suck.

Since then a lot of better alternatives has been released, but people still obsess over the R4 due to the previous glory it enjoyed and their inability, or lack of interest, in staying updated.

But basically if you have $50 you get a CycloDS because it owns. It has frequent updates and a programming team behind it that actually know what the hell they're doing.

If you only have $15 you get an AceKard 2 because it owns as well. Updates are frequent and stable, though it lacks a bit of features compared to CycloDS as well as a requires a bit more technical know-how.

If you want to be an outsider just for the hell of it you get an Edge cart because it's basically a clone of the CycloDS.

If you like not being able to play the newest games for a few days until someone might release a patch, and then patch your game only to find out it was bad and half-way through the game everything fucks up - that's when you get an R4.

I got the M3DS Real Perfect pack for 15$ lower then the cost of the CycloDS, and have had zero complaints so far. If I'd of gotten the Cyclo, I wouldn't be able to play GBA games without paying another 20-30$ for an expansion pack. Stores are phasing out the M3DS Real though, trying to force you to buy M3 Zero.

For my DSi I got the M3 Zero, I like the updatable flashable firmware to be able to stay ahead of Nintendo trying to beat it. Now they all need to hurry up and figure out how to access the camera and SD slot.
