so, as a little bit of information if anyone who wasn't there wants to know. Here is how everything stands as of now. There are two main alliances in the game standing; The collective and the Dys Divine Salty Spider. The collective mostly occupy the south east of the map and have the Highborn Ascendancy (Basilisk), Empyreal (Bioplague), Avytrria (Dunno) and the Dominion of K'aella (Aekiel). The salty Spiders include the Union of Allied PLanets (anarchy), The Salt Sovreignity (Flame), The Divine Azathoth Empire (Me), the interstellar Nerubian Imperium (Jon), Illuminati council (Oment also RIP) and the Dyss Cartel (Dunno). We mostly occupy the entire left side of the galaxy (Me to the north west and the rest of them to the south west). Other players in the game include: The Zaacplot Kingdom who have been taken over by the salt and he Zaacplot council, which I assume to be a faction of the the kindom. The Pogovan Polity. The Pinonions who is controlled by someone but I can't remember who. The galactic Jhoolian Cartel who conquered Rentar and were my only outside contact for most of the game. Naturally, we hate each other. Palindrome on Space England is somewhere in the galaxy but I have no idea.
I am a peaceful race. Why would I need a strong fleet? What meagre ships I have are left over from the great war against the Zaacblot who interposed their domain over the rightful territory of the Nerubian Imperium. Such a curious observation from you, from all the way over the other side of the galaxy...hm... On other notes: Does the game keep a sort of 'galactic log' of sorts? It'd be cool if we had a general timeline for major events.
STELLARIS – DLP SATURDAY (May 14th, 2016) Galactic Log by the Highborn Ascendancy scientists The Hydrian Theocratic Order (Rentar) declares war upon Galactic Jhoolian Cartel (AI); The Hydrian Theocratic Order (Rentar) is destroyed; * The Interstellar Nerubian Imperium takes pity on Rentar since we’re still only 10 years in and allow him to Hotjoin as an AI. Rentar hotjoin as the Sek-Lokkar Galactic Hierarchy (AI); Highborn Ascendancy (Basilisk) & Dominion of K’Aelia (Aekiel) form the first Collective Alliance; The Collective declares war on Sek-Lokkar Galactic Hierarchy (Rentar); The Collective enslaves all of Sek-Lokkar; Rentar is left without an empire, again; * Rentar leaves the game; The Salt Sovereignty (Flame), The Interstellar Nerubian Imperium (Jon) and Dyss Cartel (Faenraellis) form the first Dys United Divine Salty Spider Alliance; The Dys Divine Salty Spider Alliance declares war upon the Zaacplot Galactic Council (AI); The Dys Divine Salty Spider Alliance liberates one planet, now known as the Zaacplot Kingdom; The Zaacplot Kingdom accept vassalage under the Salt Sovereignty; In the north of the Galaxy, the Union of Allied Planets (Anarchy) is fighting against the Dima’Xanian Cooperative (AI), and the war results in the latter’s vassalage under the former; Somewhere in the east, Space England (Palindrome) is consolidating the reign of Space Elizabeth and colonizing Space Liverpool; * North-West, the Divine Azathoth Empire (Dark Belra) searches far and wide for any sign of civilization, it would only find someone else walking the stars much, much later to its great chagrin; * The Empire of Avtyrria (AI) joins the Collective Alliance; The Dys Divine Salty Spider Alliance reforms into a Federation; The Divine Azathoth Empire (Dark Belra) joins the Dys Divine Salty Spider Federation; The Empyreal (Saber) joins the Collective Alliance; The Collective declares war upon the Illuminati Council (Oment); The Illuminati Council joins the Dys Divine Salty Spider Federation, but fail to receives any aid; The Collective quickly seizes control of two world of the Illuminati Council (Oment) and enslave its population; The Union of Allied Planets joins the Dys Divine Salty Spider Federation; The Illuminati Council sues for peace; Oment leaves; End of first entry into the Galactic Log. The Galaxy as seen by the Highborn Ascendancy:
Annuls of the East, Part I Oh, you want to know why no one can find me? This is why. This, right here. At the east of the galaxy, tensions are brewing. Historically a peaceful region, recent diplomatic relations between Frank and Anarchy have been strained. On the fringes of this cold war, Space England simmers; squashed in a tiny corner of the galaxy, pinned in by hyperdrives... will Her Majesty's kingdom colonise the vast reaches of the universe once again? (Go forth, my western friends! Fill in the rest of the map.)
Sorry for not mentioning the Space penguins, but I have no idea what they were doing the whole game except that I had a research agreement with them at some point...I think. ---------- Post automerged at 20:39 ---------- Previous post was at 20:20 ---------- For those of you who are wondering what the Political Map mode would look like:
Not pictured in the above: Jon's bane and a bunch of enigmatic observer AI dudes. Both fallen Empires are around the 9 o'clock position.
For the record, the (presumed treacherous) Oment never actually joined the Federation, although I did make an inquiry to the other members(Jon and Flame at the time), their past experiences colored their decision-making. He just tried to gift us his systems when the Collective looked set to destroy him. Also, nice picture Palindrome.
I think in the future, we should set it up by accelerating as the game goes on. Normal is a reasonable speed for the first five years, so maybe the first session will be at normal speed. Then the next amount of time, or the second session, will accelerate to faster with all sessions after that proceeding at fastest. I assume some people will have some difficulty adjusting if they're new to it but I believe normal is just a bit too slow 30 to 40 years in.
I would actually go the other way around. First 10 years or so, fast. Go slower after. We get bigger, we have more thing to manage, bigger war, etc. EDIT: ANd that was my 1000th post!
No way; first ten years for me are rapidly exploring and setting up. It's the later game that starts slowing down for me.
So corvette spam is the way to go right now for fleet composition. I'm sure this will get fixed (like slavery being too strong) eventually, but until then, a balanced fleet isn't the best way to beat the AI, and probably most human players.
How did fleet combat work out in the multiplayer game yesterday? Was it all corvette spam as expected? I've been toying with some modding, and it wouldn't be hard to make a small one to balance things out a little if there's interest. The only thing that isn't fixable is Point Defense being broken. It's hard coded to 100% accuracy somewhere so missiles will remain hard countered till it gets patched.
To be honest, the game is like 33 years in, I think. I don't even think we've seen the first destroyer in actual combat yet. I know some of us have achieve the tech to make them, but I can't remember if it happened, so I can't tell. I wouldn't be opposed to the mod however, even if only for single player.
iirc, someone was producing cruisers but atm my army is like 95% corvettes with some destroyers being produced. Also, we've only had two PvP wars so far.
I'd say leave it for this game, but in the next one I'd be up for trying out some balancing mods. Something to lower evasion for the smaller ship types could work, though I suspect that would make early game monster hunting much harder.
