    The teaser came out today:

    Early thoughts:
Not the most unique trailer in the world, but it does the job selling the show's premise. I get that they have to make it clear that it's a GoT spinoff early on. The Dunk actor seems a bit stiff, but I could see him growing on me. The egg actor seems like loads of fun. Production and stuff looks p decent (keep in mind that this show has a less than half of the buget HotD has). I would say I'm cautiously optimistic, but I've been burned by GoT and GoT spinoffs before. Let's see how it goes....

On a separate note, bets on whether they will run out of material before the 4th season starts production, assuming it goes that long? GRRM has promised that he will finish WoW before a fourth Dunk and Egg novella lmfao.

I'm more excited for this than I ever was for Game of Thrones of which I have never finished. I remember being young and reading a Dunk and Egg novella in some Anthology I cannot recall the name of and greatly enjoying it back than.

I will definitely check this out. Here is to hoping it is good.

    4 seasons? Isn't this a miniseries?

House of the Dragon was renewed for season 2 five days after the premiere, for season 3 ahead of season 2 premiere. I hope they don't turn every bit of Westeros history from the last 200 years into a multi-season show. They fucked season 8 in the ass and the first two seasons of HOTD weren't exactly universally loved. HBO needs to stop assuming everyone will watch any GOT spin-off forever or they will run into an extremely predictable situation of exhausting the audience.

It is fucking spectacular. I've nothing more than that. It is stupendous.

Such a goddamn shame that Martin will never finish his main books. The Hedge Knight is superb, and it will be a superb adaptation going forward.

    The castings are stupidly good.

I like this a lot more than I ever did HotD.

Agree that the casting was good. Love Dunk, love Egg, love the Baratheon guy.

Watching the first couple of episodes brought Frieren to mind, which is not a bad association I guess.

This is just wonderful. Small scale character drama with impeccable casting and using the classic heroic tropes straight.

I like how lighthearted it is in comparison to GoT.

The guy they got for Dunk is really good. Super emotive face and is giving even fairly mundane lines a lot of character.

As for the actual show: it's pretty good. Not blowing me away, but yeah, refreshingly good.

It's a bit plodding pace-wise for the bite-sized 30 min format though. Three-four episode miniseries with each at an hour would work better.

This past episode was fantastic. I'm not usually one for flashbacks, but damned if this wasn't perfect.

I watched it. Absolutely very nice. I remember reading the graphic novel back in the day, and this seems adapted from that almost beat for beat, with the exception of making Dunk a bit less sure of himself, I think.

Very enjoyable watch. And well-earned theme music-drop at the end of episode 4.

Turns out it's not hard to make a good GOT TV show when you're adapting faithfully instead of writing fanfiction.

It's almost word for word perfect with the novella at the ending. Especially with Prince Baelor and his... bit with Prince Maekar.

At first I was a little annoyed, because I loved the end of the Novella where Maekar makes the choice to let Egg go in the hopes he can grow to be a better man than his brothers.

The more I sit with it the funnier I find it though lol, that maybe in Universe they spun it as “Maekar gave his permission” to cover up how ridiculous it is he has 0 control over his children

I mean, if he really wanted get Egg back, he definitely could. There is no way that these two could travel for years without Maekar giving his permission finally. It will probably happen in the next season. Otherwise Dunk would be a wanted man everywhere in the Seven Kingdoms preventing them from having any adventures.
