Broadly speaking, I feel most Haphne stories fall into one of two camps:

    1. "Enemies to lovers" - Harry's characterisation is largely similar to his canon self, Daphne is a stereotypical pure-blood Slytherin. Their dynamic is that of two very different personalities clashing, but something forces them into contact with each other and they overcome their differences as they get to know the person behind the rivalry. Possibly the best example of this is A Malignant Ruse.

    2. "Allies to lovers" - Harry is a variety of indy!Harry who has adopted some measure of Slytherin traits such as valuing pure-blood traditions, culture, etiquette, Wizengamot seats, etc. Their dynamic is that of Daphne realising she was mistaken about Harry and that he is in fact not a brash Gryffindor but rather a Slytherin in disguise. Usually also features a Daphne who is not fully pro-pureblood and secretly more progressive than her fellow Slytherins, in order to meet Harry half-way with a moderate "grey" political agenda.

    Which dynamic do you prefer?

What other dynamics have you seen?

What fics are good examples of each dynamic?

Honourable mention to Vlad's bimbo idiot Daphne.

I'm currently working a story where Harry is sorted into Slytherin because he meets Daphne at Flourish and Blotts instead of Draco at Madame Malkin's. My idea is Harry is anti-muggle because of the circumstances of how he grew up while Daphne more or less doesn't view muggles as people, or care about blood purity among wizards too much either way.

Making them remain enemies while carrying on a tempestuous love affair could be fun.

This is the only Haphne I have bookmarked on AO3, and I've described it as 'crack', so do with it what you will.

I hate enemies to lovers as a trope, so absolutely anything other than that.

I've written quite a bit on something very similar to scenario 1.

I like dynamics with conflicts of ideals.
