Okay I have a lame G60-235DX laptop. So I try to switch the Panel Fit so that it will scale anything lower than my native resolution to full screen. Well 7 instead has the brilliant idea to not even let me change it. >_> So every time I select "scale to full screen" the damn thing sticks with Center Image. Even if I go directly the the damn graphics card (a lame Intel x4500) settings and change it to "scale in full screen". This is really, really pissing me off at this point.

Yes I ran anti-virius apparently I'm clean. I did a restart and installed the latest drivers for that crap chip.

    Any help?

Are you talking about your desktop background image?

No. When I try to run certain games in fullscreen (KOTOR and FO1) it screws up. Normally this would be fixed by the whole "scale to fullscreen" (or at least that's how Vista used to handle it [on the same comp] now everytime I try that it goes back to that "center image" bs. Which I constantly move it to "s.t.f." but it just won't.

Okay, I played around with my Thinkpad and was able to recreate the error. In the Intel Graphics control panel, scaling would be stuck at "Maintain Aspect Ratio" even though I adjusted it to "Scale Full Screen" and hit OK.

To fix this, I lowered my screen's resolution from its native 1440x900 to 1366x768. Then I changed scaling to "Scale Full Screen". Then I changed my screen resolution back to native. I opened the Intel Graphics control panel and scaling "Scale Full Screen" sticks. Try this and let me know if it works.

EDIT: It appears that so long as you're in your native resolution, you can't adjust the scaling option. So to revert back to "Maintain Aspect Ratio", I would have to follow the above steps of lowering resolution, adjusting settings, and then returning to native.

Know what your problem is, Schrodinger? Being a Mac user AND a member of ginnypotter.net

Sarah: What exactly happens when you run your games? They don't go to full screen?

Is there a setting in your BIOS for it? Pretty sure my old laptop had something in there about whether the LCD stretched or not, so Windows might think it's displaying fullscreen but the system is second-guessing it at a lower level.
Kind of a long shot, I know... I have Win7 at work but still haven't really found my way around it (my allergies keep acting up).

Nope. They get those two black bars on the side. They're about a couple of inches thick to make it even worse. It's like I'm playing in windowed mode with the image centered but instead of my desktop in the background there's just black.

I actually did that. But then the second I tried to run KOTOR everything bonked up. Hilariously enough everything with the exception of KOTOR and FO1 work just fine. >_>

I'll try it again just to be sure but I don't have my hopes up. Thanks though.

And...nope. Still got black bars in KOTOR. I'm not sure if it's KOTOR's fault or Windows fault. Considering the game worked fine in Vista...

    I'll try it. Thanks.

The irony here though is that it worked perfectly on Vista. Which makes this even more rage inducing.

I was going to contribute help, but I won't because stretching a game running in 4:3 to fit a widescreen panel looks like shit, especially in a pixel-based game like Fallout. You should be looking for ways to get the problem games running in your display's native resolution rather than forcing them all to stretch.

Check this page for help with KotOR, tool around the rest of that site for help with other games.

May the 8-bit Gods have mercy on your soul for trying to create pixels which aren't square.

I have the exact same problem. But only with Pro Evolution Soccer 2010. I thought the problem was the update from Vista to Win 7 but I re-installed the game and it still wouldn't scale (it does say that my laptop does not meet minimum graphics requirement, then I click on ignore and then it runs in that mini centered screen).

Although other games like DA:O and COD:MW scale just fine. I just put it off as one of those things you just can't have but now, knowing you have the problem too makes me want to fix it. I'll edit with the results of my efforts.

That's the first thing I tried. It didn't work. :(

Oh good. So it's not just me.
