It's a cutesy little frustrating as shit to solo by yourself, but mega win when playing with friends game that I've become addicted to for reasons I can't really explain well. This isn't your typical review from me, but more of a get your ass out there and get it recommendation.

Picked it up when it was on sale but haven't played it yet because I'm on vacation and don't have a mouse. Any tips, or is it pretty straight forward? Note, I really haven't played it at all, just got it because it was on sale and I've heard good things about it.

Picked it up during the steam sale but the most I have gotten the time for is the tutorial. So far it seems fun, kind of a cartoony multiplayer version of Orcs Must Die which I've had a good amount of fun with. Would be fun to get a group going for it.

    I love this game.

Just a couple tips I didn't realize at first when I started.

1 - The ranked servers have a completely separate character list to ensure there's no cheating. The unranked servers and offline mode share the same characters. This is fairly important because there's no modding allowed on the ranked servers, but you're allowed to mod anything on the others.

2 - Between waves you can actually switch out your various characters and set up their traps. Laying down Monk auras over Squire towers works out fairly well for me. Makes soloing easier.

I've yet to actually play it with other people, mostly because I hate idiots who flip out over any little mistake. Still pretty fun solo though. :)

Also, it's very easy to level when you've got a high level friend or a high level tower character. One Insane difficulty win on the first map should get you straight from 1 to 12.

Only play ranked. You're supposedly able to, or will be able to transfer/copy ranked to open either already or some point in time, so there's no need to screw with Open. You can't get achievements in Open either.

Get one character to 12 or 15 before you start to work on the others, I highly recommend the squire or apprentice first. Once you get them leveled up, set your defenses up, then change to a brand new lvl 0 character. Start the wave, and that character gets to just soak up xp. Solo powerleveling.

Farm, farm, farm. I'm currently running medium and hard Summit (final level) solo with my apprentice to farm mana and items, and I can actually finish the damn thing solo if I place my stuff right. Placement is the key here, especially since you're restricted by how much stuff you can have out in one go.

I picked up the DLC while it was on sale for peanuts in the daily deal, but I'm not sure I'd pay full price for it. Definitely download the free holiday one, if it's like the others then you'll have to pay for it soon. Quest for the Lost Eternia Shards is probably the only 'necessary' piece of DLC, adding another chapter of story missions and an extra difficulty level if you preorder the full thing. But you won't get anything out of it until you're high enough level to play through it.

I guess you might want the New Heroes DLC too, the 8 player Uber Monster Fest challenge sounds kinda fun. The four new classes are just gender flipped copies of the standard classes with different base stats (females have lower health and higher speed) and slightly reworked hero skills. They don't get any of the costumes in the other DLC packs though.

Get the Halloween one for the costumes, the Holiday one bc it's free, fuck the Turkey one it's impossible, Eternia Shards I think is overpriced atm. New Heroes I haven't bothered with because it seems cheap with the gender flopped heroes. I got a few more but I got them when it was nothing like ElDee did.

Yeah you're going to grind the first level quite abit to level up and look for look. It's kind of annoying, but you get used to all the traps and tactics. Once you have a solid foundation though.... hell I'm about to go work on Hard Summit, lol

Also, we're all picky bastards, but we've played over 200 hours of this game in the last several days, so it has to be fun.

I had a feeling it will be grinding... but I like the armor leveling up stuff... Is the Monk any good outside online multiplayer or just with the hero swapping because I like that type of character so I would like to make one?

Who else has Shards of Eternia?

I need 3 other people to deal with that cluster fuck of a campaign.

Haven't tried Monk, but he looks like one of those classes that's awesome in groups, but a real pain to solo with.

Monk is a pain in the ass until you get a great weapon and massive stats on your tower radius and damage. He's like the huntress, if you solo, you're going to be breaking out a squire or apprentice to be his tower bitch. I think the monk and huntress need better alt attacks. Reloading, and the chi blast aren't really effective compared to the apprentice's radial blast, or the squire being able to be used to totally shut down a lane by simply using block. The chi blast later on with the perfect weapon +projectiles and +ranged damage at least can be useful against flying enemies.

I'll take you through the final level, you can shoot at some of the wyverens and get you a few levels, but don't go putting defenses down, lol

Fixed that for you! lol. We almost finished Summit on Hard, and Throne room on Hard. Damned final wave of ogres had one side get through, and then on Throne Room we got the boss to 25% before the necromances resurrected everything in sight and pushed to the crystal.

At least it's easy to level a new character to a useable state when you switch to ranked. My son and you came in at lvl 1/2 and are in their 20's now with no problem. If we'd run medium's it'd have taken half the time, but I was trying to get good loot for you two as well.

First and only time Steam has ever fucked me. Servers down for maintennence, and I was on wave 15 survival and got kicked off Trendy's servers. Not sure which one caused the disconnect, but much, much, much rage
