What are your Favorite OC in Fanfiction? I usually almost always dislike OC, but only because some writers just make terrible mary sue´s out of them and frankly i read FF to have more Adventures of already established Characters.

So it is a real suprise if some author can pull of a good OC and I wanted to know which are best in the Fandom

    Here are some of mine

1.Calypso Rosier from HPBWL: I think she is really cool because characters like her could actually exist in canon she is ambitious, ruthless, manipulitive but also kind of sweet and possesive towards Harry but it´s not done over the top. Besides she is competent herself and not in the Hermione or Ginny style in Fanon where she has Harry under her leash and stomping LV on her own

The romance between her and Harry is actually the only one in the Fandom which I remember to like. Because it is slow moving and they actually fit each other, and I feel like it´s not shoehorned in.

I know I will get flamed but I will never get the obsession this site has to pair Harry with Fleur, sure she is hot but she is boring and not that good of a witch in canon it just screams wishfullfillment. And i read HP because of the magic, action , characters and plot not to see Harry paired with somebody who doesn´t fit with him at all or romance for that matter, atleast Luna and Tonks are not as boring... yeah sorry for the rant

    2. Meciel from the Denarian series. She is a Fallen Angel enough said, she is funny, brutal, awesome, smart and her and Harry make a awesome team

So tell me some of your own Favorites and you can name characters like Susan, Daphne, Hannah if they were done well because they were just blank slates in canon

I'll have to agree on Meciel. I kinda liked the Korean hit-wizard in Bungle in the Jungle, too.

Dahlia and Gallowbraid from The Phoenix and the Serpent are both awesome, and the rest of the OCs are pretty good as well.

I thought she was a character in Dresden Files (never read it), I really loved it when she felt like vomiting at how sickly sweet Ron and Hermione were and she was acting pretty cool even though Harry was a complete asshole to her and brushed it off

Danny from The Phoenix and the Serpent comes to mind. That crazy hitwizard from Renegade Cause was good too.

Gallowbraid and Dahlia in The Phoenix and the Serpent are the best OCs ever. This isn't really an argument - their characterizations are better than many main characters in original fiction - really well fleshed out and with rich histories. I consider them as the gold standard for OCs in fanfiction. Danny and Nap the Niffler are well done as well.

Alexandra of the AQ series is a great protagonist, even if her pigheadedness can become extremely frustrating at times. Her brother Max is a really cool character as well.

Jamie Potter from Equal and Opposite is deliciously dark and should be considered for this list, even if I'm not sure a female version of Harry counts as an OC. Lily from Lily and the Art of being Sisyphus is another really well done version of fem!Harry, as is Alexandria from Taure's Alexandra Potter.

I really like the muggle OC from Strangers of Drakeshaugh.

Fully agreed on Meciel and Calypso. Amanda too - though she isn't really an OC.

Of those who are blank slates in canon :
    1. Daphne Greengrass in Unatoned
    2. Blaise Zabini in On the way to Greatness and Hogwarts Battle School
    3. Tracey Davis in Hogwarts Battle School and What Lies Beneath
    4. Albus Potter and Rose Weasley in Clash
    5. Antonin Dolohav in Renegade Cause and Elizium for the Sleepless Souls
    6. Marcus Flint in Sitra Ahra

Huh, I'd have expected more of Daphne seeing that she seems to be everywhere in fanfiction these days, but very few of her characterizations really stand out. Most of the blank slate girls are usually nothing more than generic love interests and rarely have much substance to their characters. Its hilarious how DLP had a hard-on for these 'rare pairings' back in the day - if only Ginny's name had been replaced by Daphne/Tracey/Susan/Katie/(Enter random girl) for all fics recommended here in the 2005-08 period, our library would be a lot bigger today.

It seems that you really needed to get that out of your system. I kinda agree with you - Canon Harry and Fleur's character don't go together well at all. Fleur just seems too high maintenance for Harry, and Harry just isn't the 'cool guy' type Fleur seems to like. I want to read a story in which Harry and Fleur dislike each other - it shouldn't be too hard to do, Fleur did dislike Harry for most of GoF. I am just tired of reading increasingly contrived ways in which Harry seems to 'earn' Fleur's respect, which somehow turns to 'true love' in two or three chapters.

Sentence stops there. Afraid can't do nothing if you prefer Harry/Millicent :3

Edit: "Fleur just seems too high maintenance for Harry, and Harry just isn't the 'cool guy' type Fleur seems to like." Yes. Which is why in Canon, Bill gets Fleur and Harry gets ... Ginny. C'mon, dude. That's the entire point -- changing Harry into someone Fleur might like. That people can't write Fleur, can't write relationships of this kind, and can't write, period, is a different argument entirely.

Moving on. I do love Dahlia in the Phoenix and the Serpent, so it makes me happy to see her already mentioned. Ditto for Alexandra Quick. Does Cho count? I have my favourite version of her still listed for Stars in the Sky, but it's been a longer while since I read it, so YMMV.

Nah, we both know Harry/Molly Weasley is the one true pairing :D

Maybe should read Phoenix and the Serpent but it´s really old and long so I´m kind of skeptical

Well, then don't read it. I'm not going to convince you to.

Nathan Cassane from Renegade Cause. A fully fleshed out character with actual motivations for the things he does. The whole history of the First Wizarding War (Voldemort's first war, not the one with Grindelwald) is really brought to life, making it feel more real - it wasn't just straight out duels and whatnot, with good people (Order of the Phoenix) vs Voldemort and not so good people (Crouch's fight fire with fire and use the unforgivables team of Aurors) vs Voldemort, there was also Cassane's side, who were like black ops, undertaking covert missions and the like. The character of Cassane allows us to see the seedier side of the war, as opposed to only the frontline battles we witness in canon.

Nathan Cassane was also charismatic and politically powerful, you can see how he could attract the James Potters and the Sirius Blacks to his cause (another great thing about the story, people don't belong to one faction only) and how he could be considered a political rival of Dumbledore's. He was powerful, while not being overpowered, in the sense that you never got the feeling he was a rival to Dumbledore or Voldemort in magical power. In other words Casaane was powerful, but not so powerful as to be any kind of deciding factor in the war.

I just felt he was a great foil for Dumbledore, as an older wizard with great reach in the community who doesn't hang on Dumbledore's every word, someone who would actually guide Harry and not just give him vague clues. When Harry asked him questions, Cassane gave him answers, he told him of the history of his own family and the Potters family history, things that Dumbledore wouldn't want Harry to know. Cassane saw Harry as a person and treated him as such, whereas Dumbledore saw Harry as Voldemort's eventual vanquisher.

I agree with a lot of the ones mentioned above. Calypso, Meciel, Alexandra Quick, Korean Hit Wizard, Cassane, etc.

One I haven't seen mentioned yet is Shikako from Dreaming of Sunshine. Self-insert or not, she'd make my list of top 10 OCs.

Alexandra Quick and Calypso have been mentioned already. But I'd add to that Max from AQ and The Lands Below, Ophilia Karait from Hogwarts House Divided, the head Auror from The Song of the Trees, and Natalie from The Prince of a Dark Kingdom. There's probably more that I simply don't recall right now, though.

For non-HP, we have pretty well everyone in Blank101's fics. But if we limit it to one per book...Nathan Hallin from Into the Storm, Wez Reece from In Shadows and Darkness, Kiria D'Arca from At the Brink of the Dawn and the Darkness, and Viscount Indo from Empire's Son. Everyone from Game of Champions as well, but I've no idea who is OC and who is canon, there.

Qgqqqqq beat me to it, but I wanted to toss in another mention for Slytherin prefect Ophilia Karait from Hogwarts Houses Divided. Really, most of the OCs from that fic are solid-to-good, but Ophilia is an absolute gem.
