ok... as I was driving home from work tonight, this plot bunny just came out of nowhere, and I think it could be a cool story.....

what if, either after CoS or after GoF Lily comes back.... not because Harry is a necromancer, not because she's actually been alive all this time, but because the reason she didn't join voldie was because she didn't want the competition, she's a dark lady (meaning evil, not grey) and had a horcrux of her own..... I don't know if voldies horcruxes should be involved, I really didn't like HBP, but I thought it would be interesting...

Harry gets sent back to the dursleys when he's already feeling like shit, and who appears to help him out and teach him to quit being a whiny bitch? dark mommy *g*

if anyone likes the idea, please let me know if you start writing something like it!

 

Well, to be brutally blunt and honest, it sucks. It just sounds like a pathetic excuse to have Harry turn into a mummy's boy and have said mummy be a violent psychopathic bitch. If you're wanting to go that way it honestly makes more sense for say Bella to escape Azkaban several years early and adopt Harry.

Oh, and Harry didn't become a whiny bitch till during OotP. CoS demonstrated his niavety, and to a limited extent that was stripped away during the course of the book. GoF demonstrated that Harry can be resourceful. He went ahead and learned a fair number of spells for the Tournament. Now, you may say, "But he only learned them because of the Tournament." and that may be true, but, unless you are the sort of person who just looooooves to study, do you pick up an organic chemistry textbook for light reading. I doubt it, you pick it up when you have an exam in that subject coming up.

Most people seem to think that because its learning spells its not studying. However, to a school pupil, who's school work all day each day is to learn spells, or the theory of them, in several subjects, sitting down in the evening with a spell book and trying to learn a few more spells, would probably seem just like studying when your exams are in a years time. ie, the sort of thing Hermione does but no one else.

 

A couple things...
first, I didn't say she would be a violent psychotic, I said she would be evil. I was thinking more of her being what a slytherin SHOULD be.... cunning, ambitious, working behind the scenes kind of thing....

second, yes, they study spells in school, BUT using magic is also a way of life... and I would think he would want to know all about something that was stolen from him for 10 years.... the way you see things is like saying that a chef never eats food because cooking is his job.... it doesn't make sense...

Oh, also, I didn't want harry to become a 'mommys boy' I wanted lily to sort of change his views, teach him things that he wouldn't learn being the golden boy, and then have him take control of his own life.... she can't realisticly come back after 11+ years and think she can just be mommy again, even if being gone wasn't her fault; but she can be a teacher and a guide and offer a new point of view.

 

To be honest, I have to agree with Mordecai, it does sound like a mummy's boy fic, and makes Harry kind of look like a pussy. He just accepts his mum wasn't there for him, kinda lame.

The only way I could see this working, is if harry was against Lily, viewed her as just another enemy. That could be quite good, although the way you've described Lily coming back atm sounds like basically a Fem!Voldie. This needs quite a bit of work, but could be a plot bunny, just try and flesh it out a bit more. Good luck!

 

I wasn't planning on fleshing it out at all, that is why it is a plot bunny and not a challenge.... the basic ideas were
1) lily comes back because she had a horcrux
2) lily was evil, but worked behind the scenes, not as a terrorist like voldie
(meaning she may have followers as well, we just don't know about them)
3) because of her return harry is inspired to quit being a lazy, stupid pussy
(whether it is because he is learning from her, or because he feels he has to fight her, etc...)

From there if someone wants to try it out they can do anything they want with it....

 

Hmm... maybe Harry could be Lily's Horcrux. And that's why the AK bounced off - Voldemort tried to turn him into his Horcrux and you can't store two soul fragments at the same time.

Anyway, like a few others said, the biggest problem here is having Harry turn into a mamma's nancy boy. But if Lily returns early enough (like before GOF), that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

 

Well, it has the potential to be turned into something good, but the base plot you're suggesting would take a lot of work to make believable and has a lot more room for failure. You'd need to explain a lot of things before the story really got moving. Why would a powerful Dark Lady would marry a Light-sided wizard under Dumbledore's wing, and do it without falling back on the 'he was her servant' thing. You could feasibly suggest that it was in order to get into the good graces of the Order, but that would have to balance up against the possibility of Dumbledore discovering her, something that has a good chance of happening unless you super-powered her.

I suppose the main thing that strikes me about this plot bunny is that the author would have to make very sure that the fic didn't just end up with Lily centre-stage by dint of all this previously unknown history surrounding her and detracting from Harry.

 

To make it so it isn't so much of a momma's boy fic I suggest some Harry/Lily smut.
