Exactly what the post says. What are some of your favorite Alternate History's that have been written?

    I'll throw up a couple.

Harry Turtledove's Southern Victory Series is a really fascinating look at what would have happened if the South won the Civil War. He takes it all the wya through to World War II. Really fascinating take.

Ruled Brittania is also good. A look at an AU where the Spanish Armada conquered Britain.

Also 11/22/63 on what if JFK wasn't assassinated.

Consider Pavane, if you're interested in a conquered Britain. Someone assassinates Elizabeth I and the Spanish succeed by the butterfly effect. It takes place in 1968, the year it was written, so quite a bit of alternate history has already happened.

It is not Alternate History but mostly a time-travel fiction story.

SS-GB, by Len Deighton, is pretty good. I read it a couple of years ago, so I’m a bit woolly on the specifics, but I remember it fondly.

As the name implies, it takes place in a London that was conquered by the Nazis.

The Years is Rice and Salt- The Black Plague wipes out 99% of Europe. The book takes place in a world dominated by Chinese and Islamic cultures.

Fatherland- A murder mystery that takes place on the eve of Hitler’s 75th birthday. Things become tricky when the dead body is a high ranking member of the Nazi party. Obviously the Germans won in this reality.

Believe it or not Newt Gingrich has a couple alternate history books set in the Civil War and one called 1945 where the US defeats Japan but fails to defeat Germany making the Cold War between the US and the Reich.

Island in the Sea of Time trilogy and the 1632 series/anthologies

these two are responsible for creating a popular online genre called ISOT where someone or a group of people/town/city/ etc finds themselves transported into the past. Island in the Sea of Time is about the island of Nantucket being transported back to the Bronze Age North America. 1632 has a small coal mining town in West Virginia transported to the middle of the 30 years war.

Axis of Time trilogy- A UN naval task force on a training mission from the 2020s(I think) winds up at the battle of Midway completely changing the course of WW2.

That’s all I got for now. If I didn’t have my books in storage I’d be able to think of more.

Worldwar: In the Balance and its sequels by Harry Turtledove.

Reptilian aliens invade Earth in 1942, causing World War 2 to stop as all world powers focus their attention on fighting the aliens.
