I've read a couple of stories where the diversion from canon starts at the the end of Chamber of Secrets. Generally, they have Harry accepting a deal from the new young Voldemort and turning dark (and a great way to offing Ginny).
That's not what I'm looking for.
Has anyone basically moved the Kings cross scene from Hallows up to the end of Chamber. Maybe getting info from his parents, and moving on from there. Independent Harry would be the way to go.
I'm not lazy, I have searched, but haven't found that particular take. Was thinking of perhaps writing my own, just didn't want to waste time if someone has already has a story like that, and did it well.

    Thanks in advance.

OP - I haven't seen anything like what you're suggesting. Having Harry die and hit the In-Between well before DH, yes - but not nearly so early as CoS.

You should write it. There's a lot of potential for change from canon, and it could be really interesting. So long as you don't fall into all the horibly cliched Independent Harry traps, anyway. But new, well thought out stories are always a good thing. Good luck.

Yes, the plot would move fast as opposed to cannon, because Harry would have the information that was withheld from him, yet he would still have the limitations magically due to be only going into his third year. It logically flows that the first thing would be to take care of the Pettigrew/Sirius problem first, then get Sirius out looking for Horcruxes maybe with the help of Dumbledore. The other thing that could be done is to get Snape looking for Voldemort earlier, that would be fun. To make the story interesting the conflict of the Hallows, with Harry seeing an opportunity to gain all three tantalizingly close.

    And of course Shoping!Harry for a Super!Trunk:facepalm

The closest I can think of is What Lies Beneath by Master Slytherin. Not quite what you're looking for, but it's got an Indy!Harry as a result of those events. Slightly further afield is Forging the Sword, which is amazing, but also not quite what you're looking for.
