So, I started reading this fic on ffn (because it's Harry/Tonks), and it's given me the urge to read more stories in this sort of vein - only good ones.

Does anyone know of any fics where Harry has to be/chooses to be the father figure for a friend's child, e.g. Teddy, because the father either died or ran out on the still-alive (to differentiate this request from bog-standard post-Epilogue/DH canon) mother (e.g. Tonks, Fleur) -preferably the latter- and slowly develops a romance with said mother, possibly with the biological father returning and tangling things up even more?

Plot, drama, and romance would come from the above conflict.

One request, though?

Please, no Hermione as the mother and Ron being the cowardly/dead biological father, unless the writing is very exceptional.

The whole Hermione/Harry/Ron triangle thing has been done to death.

I didn't like it but many other DLP users found it an OK- read.

 

I've read that in the past, and though it was well-done compared to the average fic, some elements of it did come off a bit sketchy, namely Tom killing his blood-relatives.

There's one that sort of goes the other way - While You Were Sleeping.

Harry CAN'T help raise his child, but the surrogate father does fall in love with the mother.

I read it the whole way through, but some of the character interactions were stupid. The whole piece is based on Harry being knocked into a coma during the final battle, and waking up seven years later. You would have thought that his friends would understand some of what he goes through, but most of the time, everyone sides against him.

Actually, I don't know why I'm reccing this. I only finished it because it was readable, not because it was any good, and because I'd already invested an afternoon in reading it. But it is similar to what you're asking for.

 

If that's the same one I'm thinking of, it isn't worth anyone else's time.

Disclaimer: I remember liking it despite the suspension of disbelief, and though it wasn't so long ago that I would read *anything* H/Hr, it *was* udinr the time when I heavily favored H/Hr fics. So, if it sucks, don't say I didn't warn you that it was at least a possibility.

I loved this in 2002.

 

Most of that doesn't really focus on Hermione being a surrogate mother, though it is a good one. Plus it also has a sort of Ron-Hermione-Harry triangle of sorts, which I don't know if Jormungandr wants that.
