Surprised no one jumped on this, but maybe I'm missing the thread somewhere. I guess there's not much information available, but it is an official announcement by Niantic, the company that created Ingress and Pokemon GO.

I never played Pokemon Go, but this might tempt me...

 

The main issue with Pokemon GO's release was that they didn't understand just how large the fanbase was. I mean, there were other issues, but the whole "Game isn't working, everything is fucked" was mostly because of overwhelming numbers.

Hopefully they're a bit more prepared for the flood of Harry Potter fans.

 

I remember seeing something about this being in the works along the time of PKGO's release... and I didn't have high expectations then. Nothing's I see here is changing that.

 

So, how many of us will choose Slytherin? Let's be honest, there will be Houses in this game.

But why.

There aren't even any gameplay pics.

 

Because if it's anything like Pokemon Go, it can't not be terrible.

 

There's a trailer floating around online. If it's legit it looks godawful and the spell aiming is so terrible they couldn't even make it look good for the trailer.

Also, what Agayek said. It's basically some random arsed mobile game with a Pokemon/Harry Potter skin.

 

I dunno, I'm playing Pokemon Go everyday and I'm not complaining.

 

Yeah, plenty of fun with the game here. Made quite a few friends by meeting up with the same people raiding over town.

It's a strange time when I go to raid at a Suicune and some nice 40 year old guy asks how nursing school is going because we raided together when I was just starting the program months ago.

 

/shrug Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. But considering that Pokemon Go, last time I played it at least, is an extremely limited game with minimal actual gameplay and no aspects of strategy or even really thought beyond "Do I care enough to walk over to catch that pokemon?", it's at best no more than a walking simulator that helps you exercise, and without the narrative. Nothing wrong with that, and people clearly enjoy it for some baffling reason, but that does mean it's a pretty bad game.

As for the people aspect, I don't doubt the social aspects can be fun, I've heard too many stories to say otherwise, but that's kinda like saying going to the dentist is fun when you bring a pack of friends with you. Yes, it's fun, but it's fun entirely because of the people, and nothing to do with the game, really.

 

The raids are at the moment the best part of this game. But it has been confirmed that Trading and PVP are coming to the game.

I'm actually not a fan of PVP because I dislike competitive gameplay. Playing against other players is just not for me.

 

I got really excited when I saw the Harry potter gaming title but I'll pass on another augmented reality unless it's actually phenomenal

 

Apologies for the necro, but we finally have a teaser trailer and some minor information on the game's setting. We'll most likely see some gameplay soon. I must say, I have absolutely no idea how this game will work but I am excited to see if it has any potential.

So I’m guessing the core gameplay is gonna be similar to Pokemon Go, but instead of capturing Pokemon it’s runaway magical items. Eh, okay then.

 

Man they just don't give a fuck about anything but making money off HP fans. They didn't even bother coming up with a cool acronym for the Task Force.

 

Is this canon? The narrative seems to imply that muggles pose a threat to wizards, which I'm sure will excite another thread.
