any stories out there where Dumbledore tells Harry about the prophecy sometime during First Year? It most likely would happened after the stone incident while he is in the hospital I suppose. The rest of the story would probably go along the lines of Harry taking an initiative to not be a lazy ass during his years and take worthwhile electives instead of magical creatures.

I know there is at least one fic like this, but it has been a long time... the only one I can think of is a dark!harry where he learns the prophecy off Quirrelmort during their tussle in the mirror chamber. I've read most of the 4 and 5 star stories in the library and I cant recall anything specifically like this.

However, take a look at Forging The Sword, this is probably one of the best early canon divergences I've ever seen. The only problem is the exceedingly slow update rate. Basically Ginny dies in the CoS and Harry and Co. decide to take care of the loose ends ...

 

I'm fairly sure that Chris Widger's Grey Maiden series has Harry learning the prophecy at some point during his first or second year - although he agrees to have the memory suppressed until he's better at Occlumency, from what I recall. Can't be bothered going through the first two books to check though. Not a bad series, but the updates started getting a little sporadic for my tastes.

 

I'm fairly sure VINCET goes down the path you seek. My favorite indy!Harry fic of all time, and with a competent ally in Dumbledore to boot.
