I thought abit, and came to the conclusion that maybe R.A.B isn't the initails of some name, but rather a password of some sort, that the group of voldemort used while in school. Possibly somethign along the lines of "Race and blood" or whatever.
    People?

I'm more inclined to beleive that RAB isn't one person at all - it can be some secret organisation or three different persons or anything else, but one guy? No way.

If allmighty Dumbledore almost died by tripping the defenses in the cave, how could then someone like Regulus survive all the traps AND figure out how to replace the locket without spilling the liquid? It just doesn't make sense.

Personally my first thought was of course that it was Regulus - but knowing Rowling... well, she likes to think she is really clever by dropping hints and then actually doing the opposite, so perhaps it will not be Regulus or anyone after all.

As far as Regulus not being able to get past the protections, well, here are a few possible answers to that:

We have no idea how talented/intelligent (or not) Regulus was. He could have been some sort of prodigy.

He could have been present when Voldemort set up the wards giving him insight into the way they worked and how to get past them (the least likely, I think).

He could have had help from someone else (almost anyone, really).

He possibly/probably (depending on what you think of Dumbledore - pure light or not) knew more about the Dark Arts than Dumbledore. He may have already been familiar with the types of protections on and around the Horcrux and how to combat them.

Lastly and most significantly, Dumbledore rushed right in as soon as he confirmed the location - was that overconfidence, arrogance, or desperation? Regulus could have spent weeks studying the wards and protections and breaching them without detection bit by bit.
The idiotic way Dumbledore tackled the protections on the Horcrux always struck me as potentially OOC - but if you ascribe to the theory that Dumbledore isn't dead, it actually supports that: Dumbledore already knew all about the potion, but drank it deliberately so that when he was 'killed' Harry didn't think 'wtf? Dumbledore is t3h stronkest! Y he ded?'

Dumbledore never drank the fucking potion i reread Half blood Prince read pages 570-575 every time the magicaly congered water reached his lips it dissapeared so it follows that the magical potion did also. But the water from the pool was nonmagical and it was able to be drunk. I love dumbledore but the more i read the less i like it. it feels as if this is nothing more than a test for harry and the more i feel dumbles is alive added to the floatng charm from quidditch in 3rd year and draught of living death and presto u got a dead dumbles plus a phoenix use your imaginations

JK has never confirmed that any characters (major or minor) will die in Book 6.
    thats from her site

In that thing you call a closet. Better watch out,
That's almost like my theory. He leaned over the roof before the AK fully hit him giving a illusion of death, used a charm from PoA to float down faked death. Then used Fawkes to free him or hes a Phoenix Animagus ( ewww cliche :puke: )

But R.A.B could be like Regulus.Andromeda(maybe cant think of others).Black( there last name) and as Regulus had free run of Grimuald he could've hid the locket in there, we see a locket in the 5th most likely the same. So both Regulus and Andromeda are Blacks so they both could have hid them.

My theory is that Voldemort did it himself. When Dumbledore got the ring he set off some alarms that told Voldemort " hey someone is stealing your soul" he logically deduces that it is Dumbledore who is doing it and checks on the rest of them.

This is a major problem for Voldemort but also presents a wonderful opportunity. He hatches his plan using Malfoy, Draco is given two tasks, to kill Dumbledore and to fix that portal into Hogwarts. The first task is a farce, he never intended Draco to ever succeed but was meant to be misdirection. Voldemort knows that it is very difficult to hide right under Dumbledore's crooked nose so he has Draco make these murder attempts to focus his attention on redeeming Draco instead of investigating what Bleach is actually up to. He tasks Snape with killing Dumbledore when Draco fails which is why Snape agreed to the vow so easily. He wouldn't have if he couldn't wiggle out of trouble with Voldemort.

Now, with all of this set up Voldemort needs to ensure that when the trap is sprung that Dumbledore will fall because we have seen from the previous book that Dumbledore can take on about half a dozen high ranking Deatheaters within seconds, why would this group be any different? And why would he throw them away just to teach Lucius a lesson, Voldemort can't afford to just throw away supporters including the leader of an important ally? As said before I think he set the whole thing with the locket up. R.A.B. is absolutely nothing, it was all put on just so Dumbledore will drink that potion that weakens him enough so he could be easily taken care of when he gets back at Hogwarts. That spot may have never had a horcrux there to begin with and its location was dangled out of Dumbledore's reach until everything is good to go.

Why hasn't something like this mentioned before? This darklordpotter.net why not some more respect for the character that currently holds that title?

Then explain about the Vow snape and dracos mom performed. and the R.A.B it is defanatly important in the 7th book, otherwise it would't be as important as JKR made it out to be.

Be more specific about the vow, exactly what do you mean by it? As for R.A.B. like I said according to this theory R.A.B. is a red herring, they are going to waste all this time trying to figure out and it will all be for naught, and don't think Rowling wouldn't do this, it doesn't affect ships so she isn't afraid of her fans reaction.

For me RAB has to be a person. It is a little late in the series to introduce some secret society. I think a clue to him being alive was left in OotP, when the quibbler claims the lead singer of The Hobgoblins, Stubby Boardman, is in fact sirius, there may have been a clue that it could actually be Regulus...

or it could in fact just be Lunas crazy Dads crazy ramblings?
Im not dismissing your idea. Im just saying that I cant really see it being a plausible plot line. The Crumple Horned Snorlacks are unlikely to play a major role and I think the Quibbler is really just comic relief

I think Randeemy has a really good point there. This is typical of the kind of things Rowling likes to do. If Regulus is still alive, he is probably Stubby Boardman.

Personally methinks that R.A.B stands for:

    Rapists and Bunnies.

They are the most feared hard-core, heavy metal, pre-school (at the time) band ever.

Either that or they are a bunch of Illuminati/Opus Dei/*Insert Name of SuperSecret Sect here* who just felt like stealing someones soul literally instead of figuratively for once.

Cheers. It is like in PoA when Tralawney says that when 13 people dine, the first to rise will die. we all thought, much like everyone else round the table that it was a stupid notion and would bear little relevance to the books in the future. Perhaps it is coincidence....

Apart from the fact that everyone dies, In OotP Sirius is the first to rise when 13 people are dining at Grimmauld place and he snuffs it....

But this is way off the topic sorry.

I really think that RAB has to be regulus. In the letter to voldemort he refers to him as the Dark Lord. Something he is only called by deatheaters...

  15. i agree, its Regulus. When i read it i immediately thought of him. (and like everyone who thought of it as well, thought they discovered some ancient secret of the book that no one else knew about.) dont lie! we all did! But seroulsly, it has to be him, with the Black tapestry and Sirius explaining how his brother got killed, but wasnt sure if Voldie did it or not. Voldie did it when he discovered that Regulus stole his Horcrux.

I also think its Regulus but I dont think he acted alone. R.A.B stands for Regulus and two other names. Maybe all 3 are Death Eaters that have regreted joining Voldy...

Despite that so do I not belive that they are currently alive. Voldy either found out that they were searching for his horcruxes and killed them and moved the horcruxes or he killed them simply for being disloyal never knowing what they had been doing.

maybe but why using two first names and then a last name?
And I don't think Borgin as anytjing to do with this.
He was never associated with the death eathers.

As soon as i read R.A.B i immideatly connected it with Regilus and then i remembered the locket in the fith book but knowing Rowling it may be something comepletly different. She is very random, no real patter to her writing. I mean in the fith book, voldy fires avada at dumbles and Fawkes swallows it, in the sixth book no such thing happens. it made me realize that either DUmbeldore really wanted to die or just another test for Harry much like the first book.
