I made this list in an attempt to create a multiverse which could be used by writers for dimension-hopping stories. I used all the Plot Bunny threads, the POD thread and some ideas of my own. Of course, I claim no ownership of any of these worlds and only hope that their creators will allow them to remain on this list.

I want to make this clear: these worlds are not supposed to be great story ideas on their own (though some are). They are supposed to together create a diverse and strange multiverse. That being said, ideas for additional dimensions would be appreciated.

I felt this deserved a thread of its own, rather than being put in the Plot Bunny thread, as I will most likely add to this list. Plus, with it being in a separate thread, it will be much easier to find.



List of Alternate Potter Realities and their PODs.

The worlds are listed chronologically, by the moments of their divergence, with ancient times at the beginning and Deathly Hallows at the very end.

0001 - Canon Universe. All was well.

0002 - Wizards out-bred muggles during the times of the Roman Empire.

0003 - The Unforgivable Curses were never invented.

0004 - There are significantly more vampires and they became strongly integrated into the magical society.

0005 - House elves were never enslaved or bound to Wizardkind. Not having easy slaves to do their work, wizards began using muggles as paid servants.

0006 - The Founders split apart before Hogwarts was built.

0007 - Hogwarts was not created to be magical secondary school, but a magical university.

0008 - The House System in Hogwarts was never introduced.

0009 - Magical education begins at 7 instead of 11.

0010 - The wizarding population became ten times higher.

0011 - The dementor population rose rapidly during the Black Death and became impossible to contain.

0012 - The Statute of Secrecy was never introduced and eventually Wizards became the ruling aristocracy.

0013 - The Triwizard Tournament was never established.

0014 - Nicolas Flamel released the knowledge of the Stone to the wizarding population in early 1900s, making every magical person immortal.

0015 - A wizard in 1910 made a succesful trip to the moon, creating a wave of wizarding colonization of space.

0016 - Grindelwald and Dumbledore were both killed in their duel.

0017 - Dumbledore and Grindelwald stayed allies and conquered the world.

0018 - Magic was revealed to the muggles by Grindelwald during World War II.

0019 - Fawkes gave only one feather.

0020 - Dark Lord Grindelwald was defeated by Tom Riddle, the Boy Who Lived.

0021 - Tom Marvolo Riddle was never born.

0022 - Athena Riddle was born instead of Tom.

0023 - Tom Marvolo Riddle was adopted by a wizarding family.

0024 - A muggle soldier adopted Tom Riddle, who grew up in a military environment.

0025 - Horace Slughorn was the one to visit Tom Riddle at the orphanage instead of Dumbledore.

0026 - Hagrid was never expelled.

0027 - After Dumbledore refused to hire Voldemort as a teacher, the Dark Lord took over Durmstrang.

0028 - Dumbledore, wanting to keep a close eye on Riddle, gave him the Defense position.

0029 - Voldemort hid his Horcruxes around the entire world instead of only in Britain.

0030 - Voldemort never created any Horcruxes and died during that night at Godric's Hallow.

0031 - Instead of spreading his views using terrorism, Voldemort ended up as the Minister for Magic and began ruling with an iron fist.

0032 - In the 1960s, Voldemort discovered that the Gaunt Ring is the Resurrection Stone and created a giant army of inferi.

0033 - Instead of being only limited to Britain, Voldemort was an international threat with untold powers.

0034 - During the first war, Moody became a vigilante and started murdering death eaters and other criminals.

0035 - Petunia was born a witch too.

0036 - Sarah Snape was born instead of Severus.

0037 - Sirius Black was never born.

0038 - Like Sirius and Andromeda, Bellatrix rejected blood purism in her youth.

0039 - James was a blood purist and was sorted into Slytherin.

0040 - Snape drugged Lily with Amortentia during their Hogwarts years.

0041 - Lupin killed Snape during that fateful prank-gone-wrong.

0042 - Lily married Snape.

0043 - Draco was born a Squib.

0044 - Dudley was born a wizard too.

0045 - Harriet Potter was born instead of Harry.

0046 - Jasmine and Harry Potter are twins.

0047 - Sybill Trelawney never made her prophecy.

0048 - Upon learning the prophecy, the Potters left Britain.

0049 - Pettigrew never betrayed the Potters.

0050 - James wasn't home when Voldemort attacked the Potters. He came back to find his wife dead, Voldemort gone and Harry with a scar.

0051 - James sacrificed himself instead of Lily.

0052 - Neville was the Boy Who Lived.

0053 - Ron was the Boy Who Lived and his parents are dead, Ginny was never born.

0054 - Draco Malfoy was the Boy Who Lived and was raised by the Tonks family after his parents were killed.

0055 - Luna Lovegood was the Girl Who Lived.

0056 - Bellatrix kidnapped Harry after Voldemort was defeated.

0057 - The Lestranges did not torture the Longbottoms and used the Imperius excuse to evade justice.

0058 - After Voldemort's first defeat, the Death Eaters continued his campaign for several more years with Bellatrix as their new leader.

0059 - James returned as a ghost after death.

0060 - Sirius escaped the Aurors and was never put in Azkaban.

0061 - Lily Potter was a Dark Witch and created her own Horcrux. She restored her body two years after Voldemort's first downfall and took Harry from the Dursleys.

0062 - Both of Luna's parents died and she was raised by the Malfoys.

0063 - The Dursleys were a loving family to Harry and accepted him for who he was.

0064 - The Killing Curse affected Harry's magic and it grew to be very wild and uncontrolled.

0065 - Harry was raised by cultists and believed himself to be the messiah.

0066 - Harry was raised by Moody.

0067 - Harry was raised and mentored by Dumbledore.

0068 - The Horcrux in Harry's scar was significantly stronger and affected his personality growing up.

0069 - Instead of Fudge, Bartemius Crouch Sr. became the Minister for Magic.

0070 - In 1986, a magical disease caused 90% of humanity (both muggle and wizard) to die.

0071 - Dumbledore died of old age several months before Harry's first year.

0072 - A Goblin Rebellion started a month before Harry's first year at Hogwarts.

0073 - Quirell managed to steal the Philosopher's Stone from Gringotts and Voldemort returned before Harry's first year.

0074 - Harry's memories after Voldemort's death traveled back in time to his eleven-year-old body, altering history.

0075 - Harry was sorted into Slytherin.

0076 - Harry was sorted into Ravenclaw.

0077 - Harry was sorted into Hufflepuff.

0078 - Ron didn't insult Hermione in their first year and she did not run into the troll.

0079 - The troll killed Hermione before Harry was able to arrive.

0080 - An accident with the Mirror of Erised gave Harry the ability to see what people really want.

0081 - Lucius Malfoy didn't play with his master's Horcrux and the Chamber Incident never happened.

0082 - The Ford Anglia was in perfect condition when the boys flew to Hogwarts. They didn't get caught, and Ron's wand never broke.

0083 - Lockhart really was the hero he claimed to be.

0084 - Hagrid was given the Dementor's Kiss when he was arrested during Harry's second year.

0085 - Lockhart escaped the school before Harry and Ron could force him to go to the chamber.

0086 - Lockhart was successful in removing Harry and Ron's memories in the Chamber of Secrets.

0087 - Ginny died in the Chamber before Harry could arrive there and Riddle escaped with his Basilisk.

0088 - Lupin bit Ron during Harry's third year.

0089 - Cho Chang found the Diadem in Harry's third school year and was possessed by Voldemort.

0090 - Moody overpowered Barty Crouch Jr. and forced him to reveal Voldemort's plans.

0091 - Cedric touched the trophy before Harry and was transported to the graveyard alone.

0092 - Fudge accepted that Voldemort returned after Harry's fourth year.

0093 - Umbridge did not send Dementors after Harry.

0094 - Voldemort killed Lucius and Narcissa when he found out that his Diary was destroyed.

0095 - Harry managed to contact Sirius and did not travel to the Ministry.

0096 - Sirius didn't fall through the veil.

0097 - Lupin was too late and Harry ran after Sirius through the Veil.

0098 - Harry killed Bellatrix in the Ministry after she killed Sirius.

0099 - Dumbledore did not put on the Gaunt Ring and was not cursed.

0100 - Harry consumed the love potion given to him by Romilda Vane.

0101 - Snape arrived too late and Harry's Sectumsempra killed Draco.

0102 - After Dumbledore's death, Harry was joined by Grindelwald who has truly repented.

0103 - Moody didn't die during the battle of Seven Potters.

0104 - Harry's Hogwarts years were completely normal and safe until Voldemort returned after Harry already finished his education.

0105 - Instead of getting immediately back to life from the ethereal Kings Cross, Harry appeared 19 years later in a Britain ruled entirely by Voldemort.

0106 and more will be added eventually.

 

This is actually fairly cool. Kind of like the Eart-52 concept for Marvel. I dig it.

 

0093.5 = The Ministry arrives at the Dursleys' house after the Dementor attack, and Harry is forced to flee.

 

Earth-616 is Marvel. The 52 multiverse concept is DC.

If someone could write a fic with this info but inspired in the Crisis on Infinite Earths plot, it would be awesome.

120 Wands are exceptionally rare or nonexistent. Magic is dominantly magical devices, potions, divination, arithmancy, etc.

121 The Unforgivables do not exist.

122 It hurts to cast spells. The more potent the spell, the more pain is involved.

123 Magical people are far more frail, physically, than regular humans. Magical healing does not exist.

124 Honor duels never went out of style and remain the common means of resolving disputes.

125 Apparition, Portkeys, and the Floo do not exist.

126 Every spell cast shortens the caster's life span.

127 Harry and Cho get back together in his Sixth Year.

128 Speaking Parseltongue and other beast-tongues is common.

129 Magic is far more difficult to learn. Most graduate from Hogwarts knowing only a few spells.

0012.1 After the Statute of Secrecy was made, wizards didn't stop using technology, they went tandem with their muggle counterparts. Only using magic as fuel for motors or instead of gunpowder. Hell yeah steampunk.

0023.2 Tom Riddle was adopted by a muggle family. The Granger Family.

 

Sorta but not really. I helped with it a little, but it ended up going nowhere. *shrugs*

 

Has this been done? I would read the shit out of it.

Edit: And not a fic where Tom is actually a good guy, and he and Dumbledore are pals. I'd love to read a story where Riddle has the same motivations as in canon, but he and Dumbledore have a collegial relationship in public, while they're working aggressively against each other behind the scenes. The potential for an intriguing political fic is just top notch.

Riddle doesn't seem to have any aspirations to world-domination.

 

Recessive means that muggle borns would be fairly common but squibs would be vey rare.

113.5 Magic is X-linked, it is fairly rare for a non pureblood girl to be magical.

 

This idea is incredible.

Imagine Harry Potter growing up as he does in canon, and finding out that he is not just a wizard but has the ability to speak to his parents.

Dumbledore being able to speak to his sister, Riddle his mother...

You could have old families that pass on special spells and magic from one generation to the other. Plus, everyone would know where they came from. Would blood purity even exist? Could you only communicate with blood relatives/those with magic or could you call up Hitler or Gandhi?

I would love for someone to expand on this idea and write about it.

131: Voldemort is born a few years before Lily and James. His rise of power takes place during Harry's Hogwarts years.

132: Grindlewald rules Europe, only Dumbledore stands in his way of control of Great Britain.

133: Harry is blamed for Cedric's death.

 

134: Vernon was successful in 'beating the magic' out of Harry.

 

134: The Dursleys refuse to take in Harry.

135: Harry is born a metamorphomagus.

136: Ron Weasley is a talented Musician. He lacks the inferiority complex from canon.

137: Dragons are not dumb beasts, but instead closer to DnD style Dragons. The wizarding world is locked in a centuries-old on-again off-again war with them.

138: Dementors do not exist.

139: The gene(s) which allow a person to access magic are identified by a squib geneticist. He goes public with the knowledge and breaks the statue of secrecy by selling bone marrow transplants which will turn muggles into wizards and witches.

140: Harry Potter is adopted by Justin Dumorne.

141: The Harry Potter magic system is replaced by Dresden Files style magic. Everything else about the story as of book one remains the same or very similar.

141.5: Harry Potter Magic replaced with DnD Magic system. Everything else remains the same as of the start of Book One.

142: During third year, a strange rune-carved skull falls out of thin air and lands on Harry Potter's skull. Only to begin making wisecracks and flirting with Hermione.

143: An Alien civilization contacts humanity in 1985, catapulting human technology forward, and leading to the revelation of Wizardkind to muggles.

144: Dumbledore kills Tom Riddle when he applies for the defense professorship.

145: Lucius Malfoy learns of Tom Riddle's parentage. He reveals it to the rest of pureblood society. Voldemort is forced to come up with an entirely different plan/cause to gain power.

146: Voldemort conquers Britain during his first rise to power. The rest of the ICW is locked in a (slowly losing) war with him and his forces when Harry Potter is born in hiding.

147: Sirius Black chooses to take care of his godson, instead of chasing Peter.

148: James Potter catches Voldemort by surprise. Severely wounding him and forcing him to flee. Neither Harry Potter nor Neville Longbottom are marked. Trelawney's prophecy is false.

149: While playing in a river in a park, Harry Potter finds The One Ring.

150: When Harry Potter arrives at Hogwarts, Severus Snape sees not James Potter, but Lily.

151: Grindlewald escapes his prison during Voldemort's time as a wraith. He abducts Harry Potter, and raises him as his scion/heir in secret... Then sends him to Hogwarts.

152: Tom Riddle embraces his muggleborn side as a schoolboy. His war is on Pureblood wizarding culture. Harry Potter of the Ancient and Noble House Potter is the only one who can defeat him and save his entire way of life.

 

WD: 141 and 141.5 have both been done, by me and 50caliberchaos respectively. Well, sorta.

 

Each of these could be interesting as shit.
