I was drunk and spilled liquor all over my mac book...

Yeah, laugh it up. Luckily for me, it still works. Unfortunately, the damn keyboard is so freaking sticky on the underside that writing anything, which I like to do in my spare time, is tiresome and hurts the wrists because I have to hit the buttons so damn hard.

Does anyone know what I should do? Should I take the mac apart and actually wash the underside of the keys? What should I do so it doesn't stick the way it does anymore?

Take the keys off, rubbing alcohol all over it, clean it up with Qtips. I spilled Red Bull on my g15 keyboard and it took forever to get it clean.

  3. I got soup all over my laptop keyboard and I don't know how long I wasted trying to clean it half the keys still don't work.

You're lucky that it didn't fuck up the internal components. My boss spilled coffee all over a brand new HP laptop, completely fucked up both the keyboard and some of the parts beneath.

At least you can use a USB keyboard as a last resort, if cleaning the keys won't work for you.

That's crappy luck man, but I doubt you'll get it completely clean. If you do, invest in a keyboard cover. I'm not trying to be a dick or smartass by suggesting one; it's seriously saved my laptop so many times, mostly from other people's carelessness.

Sucks dude, I've spilled some shit over my desktop keyboard twice this month, its sticky as hell. Good thing this laptop is safe. What i have read from other people is to use a solution like rubbing alcohol, and use something thin to get under the laptop keys.

Midnight, how do I go about taking the keys off a macbook? Should I just take off the whole damn cover? Would that screw anything up?

And thanks for the other suggestions, people. I'll invest in that cover and I'll try to use something thin to get under the keys if I can't get the cover off.

I suppose if you had Applecare or a friend who worked at the Apple store, they could hook you up.

Regular computer maintenance should be free from an apple store.

Midknight had it perfect. Use the alcohol to clean the keyboard. Works almost perfectly. It takes a while though.

    Macbook...

Apple's official position is "On the Macbook, the keyboard is integrated into the top case, so if something does go wrong with your keyboard or track-pad, you have to replace the top case."

Google shows a number of people who've paid for new top cases when sticky drinks have spilled on the keyboard.

Apparently removing the keys is easy enough, but replacing them afterwards is a major headache. This guy had some success tho. He has pics and instructions in Post #8. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=226423

I read the thread title, and thought, "Nah... couldn't be."

    ...

And it wasn't. :( Anyway, Alcohol should clean it up pretty easily. Just pour some onto a cloth/rag and gently rub it. >_> I know. Sounds like bad sex advice...

For Mac keyboards... don't take the casing off. Everything just goes flying all over the place. Of course, this keyboard here is six years old, but unless things have changed, cleaning a mac keyboard is difficult.

As suggested, invest in a second keyboard or seek some form of "professional" assistance.

We (OP and I) already tried actually taking the entire frame of the macbook off, but it seems they don't like allowing you to do that as only the corners would come up. Blew some air around in there, got out more of the moisture, and it luckily started working again.

I was just typing on the damn thing today and it is a massive bitch to do just about anything. I'll be typing and suddenly nothing will react. Move it around a little bit and it will start working again, but it got annoying. That thing won't be lasting much longer after that stupid Strawberry Seabreeze. Lawl, what a name for a drink.

I linked to the repair manual in my previous post. It gives illustrated instructions for taking apart the MacBook.
