How do you believe wizards investigate crime? Like say for example, a wizard kills someone and then incinerates the body, how would investigators catch him? There surely must be spells for investigating magical means of committing crime but what would they be and how would criminals go about getting around them?

Also what would the criminal underground of wizarding society be like and how would it operate?

Murder falls to the Hit Wizards. If there isn't a body, no one knows about the murder for days, so the investigation doesn't start until the victim is presumed dead. I suppose I could invent spells that would scan for DNA and then analyze it, but that doesn't seem like the way they would go about it. I propose a weaker, more reliable branch of Divination, like dowsing or the use of seeing stones. The Hit Wizards protect the diviner as he or she looks for physical clues that can both point to who or where the killer might be, as well as evidence that can be used in court.

The objective of the criminal trying to get away from pic related is to either kill him or try to magically disguise the clues and misdirect him. I suspect that this is the main responsibility of the 'clean up crew' for the wizarding mob.

Well, from what Dumbledore says, magic leaves traces. I actually kinda like the divination idea for trying to find those traces.
