KenderCleric's Challenge #13 - The Tales we Tell
...you had to know this was coming.

    WARNING: SPOILERS FOR DEATHLY HOLLOWS!!!
    Summary:

The war is over. Harry Potter and the free peoples of the Wizarding World have won, but the cost has been high. As most people seek to rebuild their lives, mourn their lost loved ones, and work for a brighter future a new darkness has already begun to grow.

Voldemort's breach of the Black Prison Fortress of Nurmengard to kill Grindelwald had unforeseen consequences. The wards of the Prison had been breached and slowly began to fall. While the rest of the world tried to put the recent events behind them, one man was seeking his freedom. When the final ward fell he made good his escape.

His first stop was the topmost floor of the highest tower; his master's cell. He had faithfully followed Grindelwald for years, and had been at his side when Dumbledore finally entered the fight. Though powerful in his own right he could not stand up to Dumbledore for more than a few moments in a duel. He had failed his master, but not again.

When the man discovered his master's dead body he swore revenge on the Wizards and Witches that had destroyed their dream of a perfect world lead by Wizards. He vowed to find a way to defeat Dumbledore and revenge his fallen master.

Several months later the man learned of what had transpired in the world since his imprisonment. He learned of Voldemort's rise, fall, second rise, and second fall. The servant of Grindelwald learned of Dumbledore's death and the triumph of his greatest pupil: Harry Potter. Though his chance for revenge on Dumbledore himself had been stolen he could see repay the sins of the teacher onto the student.

Rumors over Potter's victory had been rampant. Many spoke of him being the master of the Elder Wand. The wand his master had never mastered. That complicated matters a great deal, but the servant was not to be dissuaded. There were other legends and items of power his former master had sought. Now he would continue that search and ultimately complete his master's work.

The Tales of Beedle the Bard was a famous work now. The story of how it had passed from Albus Dumbledore to Hermione Granger was an element of many new bedtime stories. Tales of how the book had aided the "Golden Trio" defeat Voldemort were nearly as plentiful as tales of the Elder Wand itself.

Yet the tale of the Tale of the Three Brothers was not the only fable by Beedle that held truth beyond fiction. As many know even the most outrageous of legends usually begin with some semblance of truth. Few would ever have imagined that only three short years after the second fall of Voldemort the Golden Trio would once again turn to the tattered pages of that book seeking guidance.

    The Challenge:

This challenge is two-fold. First, write an original Wizarding Tale like Beedle's Tale of the Three Brothers. This tale will hold the legend of an item or items that are being sought by the servant of Grindelwald.

Second, write a fic using the Death Eater remnants, Grindelwald remnants, and Grindelwald's now free servant as the bad guys. They are seeking whatever item or items you create for the Tale. They are seeking the item/items in order to a)Kill Harry Potter, and b)see Grindelwald's dream come true.

    The Rules:
    • This is a post DH fiction, but should not be AU. That means events in books 1-7 should be considered as having happened as portrayed in the books.
    • I'm lazy, but you can't be. Give Grindelwald's servant a proper name and history. Why was he in the same prison that housed Grindelwald? What crimes had be committed as the faithful, and dare I say fanatical, Lieutenant of Grindelwald?
    • Dumbledore's only interaction with Grindelwald revolved around the Deathly Hollows. This second branch of research and relic hunting by Grindelwald. That means that beside the book given to Hermione the trio is on their own to discover the what/where/when/etc.
    • Neville, being the badass he is now, must join the trio. Feel free to give them a cheesy new name like "Gryffindor Four" or something like that. It's silly, but lets face it it fits in the Potterverse.
    • Remember that if Harry is defeated the victor gains the Elder Wand. Harry would not like this being risked. How does he address the issue?
    • The fic should also include details on the "Reconstruction Period" of the British Wizarding Community. Who is now Minister? Is it still Kingsley? What are the Weasley's up to now? Etc. Etc. Etc.
    Good luck!

    EDIT:
I am very sorry to anyone that read this before I got it into the Spoiler tags. It seems the color got messed up in the transition between Word and here so the tags didn't work right at first.
