Pretty sure this is the Jonaerys wank fic we took apart a few pages back. Half a chapter of introducing Wendel Manderly only to kill him off defending some poor sob for Jon. Naturally Jon get's his head bashed in only to wake up in Targaryen Manor! Immediate white knighting against Viserys ensues, MAD LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!11

I find that very hard to believe based on my read of the first chapter way back.

Wasn't it also a ripoff? Like the entire plot lifted from some TV show?

Two plots ripped off. The first arc ripped off Marco Polo, now it's moved to rip off Spartacus with Jon as a slave gladiator. There's lots of littler ripoffs in between too.

On a side note if somebody missed it: https://forums.darklordpotter.net/threads/wolfs-blood-working-title-asoia.37579/
We have something in the WbA, only one chapter and I don't really want to spoil anything, check the summary and read it anyway since it's inhouse. Remember to leave feedback in WbA not here.

Anyone still reading Open Way? https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10160644/1/The-Open-Way
At chapter 87 now, I remember it getting a lot of heat for it's ham fisted ways (which I partly agree) but it's one of those fics that just keep going on and you can't help to get back to. A recurring theme: I keep thinking with a lot of chapter's "Oh now it's FINALLY really going somewhere!" only for it to drag along and do some entirely different PoV and I lose interest.

Has anyone maybe recently completely (re)read it and has some fresh perspective? I really can't bring myself to read the earlier chapters right now.

edit: @pbluekan, btw you linked to chapter 19

This keeps me from enjoying a number of ASoFaI fics. It's always a POV I couldn't care less about, and has little if nothing to do with the plot, but the author has a hard-on for. "'Cause it's totally going to make sense in about a year when I get around to hornshoeing a reason for his/her POV." Especially the ones that have slow update rates. It's difficult to stay interested.

I actually enjoyed the start of this, but the conflict the author creates after resolving something feels rather contrived. I've only read 5 or 6 chapters and I'm already bored.

It's really heavy on the Daenarys, which was somewhat bearable at first, but only seems to be getting on my nerves. The issue of POVs that Heather brings up rings true here.

Are there any good, long AU stories with minimal Daenarys? And only 1-3 POVs?

    Edit:

Just picked up Knees Falling. Pretty good so far.

    'No Promies', by Nugar.

Pretty short so far, but it's an SI OC as a trueborn son of Robert and Cersei. Wavers between serious and silly but pulls it off well.

I thought I would like it because I typically enjoy nugars stuff, but that was bad. It has all of the worst of SI clichés and they are not well executed either. I mean he invents penicillin when he caught the clap. Penicillin.

The writing style was technically okay, but it is a shit tier guilty pleasure at best.

    ^ This!
What is it that people find interesting with the SI concept? It breaks 4th wall by design, always the same shit and honestly, why do I want to read about guy XY in situation X? I might aswell go with a timetravel!fixit fic. :)

Where exactly is the serious part? Because I'm not seeing it.

    That'd be the part where...

Robert catches Cersei fucking Jaime, goes into a bloodrage and kills Jaime, attempts to kill Cersei and his son, who are then forced to flee King's Landing and make their way across Westeros to safe harbour.

I'm also a big fan on his work but this reads like all the worst cliches of SIs thrown together.

AFAIK, that's been retconned out. At least for now, although it might be coming back in the future.

Where are you seeing this? Because it's not in any of the bookmarked chapters.

Fair enough, I completely missed that one since I was navigating the thread via the threadmarks.

Still... the chapter makes no sense. Why would he not let Robert kill Cersei and Jaime?

Never mind, just saw his answer in the thread.

But she's not his mother. It's a self-insert. She is not his mother in any meaningful way.

And Cersei doesn't? Why? Robert could easily abdicate, but the SI is just too hateful, too eager to bash him. Seriously, acting like Robert goes into an actual blood-rage and tries to kill his son who looks nothing like his intended target, that's just author fiat.

Oh and bit with Barristan Selmy? Stared him down a crossbow and got away? Come on now.

This fic is shit, like most SI fics tend to be, and there is not a single thing about it that's written well.
