Right, so I've seen some ads for this over the place. I enjoyed Civ 5 quite a lot, but found Civ BE to be rather... bland.

I'm a bit hesitant to get the expansion, so I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts as to whether it's worth picking up or not.

Yeah.. I bought BE instantly when it came out. I don't think it's been opened since then. I could play Civ 5 endlessly. BE just doesn't... do it for me.

    Release Day: October 24, 2014

I played all of two games before going back to Civ 5.

I came to the Civ series quite late, heard that Civ 5 took 1 or 2 expansions to become good. Hoping it's the same for BE.

The expansion improves it a lot-my play time in beyond earth had already doubled, lol.

There are quite a few bugs however, so unless you really want it I'd wait for patches.

I had fun with BE but admittedly not as much fun as Civ5. Then again Civ5 has a bunch of DLC to add to itself while BE only now had Rising Tide. I enjoy a bunch of the mods added to BE but some of them either need to be updated to the new expansion or just plain updated.

I haven't gotten Rising Tide yet on account of being poor as Hell so I'm going to have to wait before I can see what they did to it.

Beyond Earth promised to be a worthy successor to Alpha Centauri.

It was not even worthy of the association.

I got bored of Civ:BE pretty quickly too. Haven't picked it up in months whereas Civ V is still my most played game and doesn't look to be replaced any time soon.

Played Beyond Earth for like ten hours and I got bored with it. Personally I felt like the tech tree was needlessly complicated. For all the tiers of researching you could do, all victory conditions felt the same, and the AI civs were super bitchy if they were pro-xeno, even if you were actively defending your cities or units. I had a game where the pro-xeno civs were denouncing me for being too aggressive (at killing xenos) while I was actively building the xeno communicating win device.

Also the game vastly overstated good friendly the aliens would get. Even while at the best possible relationship with the relationship building item completed they were still attacking me while I was far from their nest. Spying was also really shallow but to effective for how little work it was.

Was there any good/ really in depth mods made for it?

I feel like BE is prime for a Mass Effect mod or something.

I never realized how badly I wanted an RTS/Civ Mass Effect game for the time period of the First War/settling space.

I thought someone would have made that by now...

I think i'd prefer that in xcom 2 though.
