So I was thinking of starting up a pokemon tournament using PokemonOnline, the successor to ShoddyBattle.

At the moment, I want to see how many people are interested in the idea. I can draw up brackets if enough people enter.

Umm, no. You come find me on irc and register. This isn't an official Nintendo thing, it's a private tournament. Just download Pokemon Online and you're set.

Anyway, I'm a purist (I acknowledge only the 1 and 2 generations), so I prefer Pure Pokemon only tournaments, but I'd play everything, pretty much.

I'd reccomend we go with OU, just because it's nice and simple for the tournament. If anyone wants to use a different tier, a vote can be held.

I'm interested, but it depends when it goes down. I got no time for it until late June when my exams are over. If you start before then, I'll join in the second one, if it happens.

My enjoyment is just playing through the game... Never done competitive battling before. But I'm interested to give it a shot.

Ok, so we have at least enough for a 16 tourney.

The way I've seen it work before is the tournament is held over a period of time. Whenever two people who have been drawn together are on irc are on at the sme time, they battle.

Best out of three or not is decided between the two participants before the battle. I'll give it a few days to see if we can scrounge up 32 members. If not, the first 16 people to get their teams to me are entered into the tournament.

Someone has to verify the teams beforehand and it gives an unfair advantage, so unless anyone else volunteers, I'll bow out and focus on running it.

Also, OU means that you can use any pokemon in a lower tier than OU. Just not in a higher tier.

 

This is bad idea.

Just come up with a set of rules, and that's that. If a minority really want to play by the other variant, there's nothing stopping them for asking for that to be the case in the future, of having their own tournament on the side. Allowing for round-by-round discretionary rules is just asking for problems. Especially when 99% of the time, what determines the 'winner' in determining the rules is the one to treat it as srz business.

 

Fair enough. State if you'r rather the battles be best out of 3 or one off. Personally, I'd prefer one battle, but I'm not the one competing. You guys are.
