So the solution is to, instead of kicking them out, to make them second-rate cooks who rely on other people's recipes to make anything respectable?

Azami isn't gonna let these second rate chefs graduate, I think it's more of a carrot on a stick thing to get support.

MangaStream picked up scanlating the manga today, should have faster releases than Casanova. Translation quality seems to be pretty equal to Casanova's.

I swear, if Eizan put his hair up in a pompadour I would be convinced that Beelzebub got restarted.

Yo, I don't think you can put up links to the actual scanlation. Mentioning it is fine already. Maybe you should take it out.

And now we shall see random swearing thrown in everywhere, the tone of it is so different from Casanova already.

Ready for the possibility Eizan vs Soma though, going to be brilliant. Although I have a minor theory surrounding what follows.

Soma gets in and makes it 5-5, and then Isshiki flips to Azami's side making it 6-4 again.

    Why spoiler tag speculation o_O

Didn't Azami basically neuter the e10 anyway? Doesn't matter what 'sides' they take.

I think there is more to Eizan than what we see here. If he really wanted Soma done and gone from Tootsuki, he would have just let Soma be the challenger for this Shokugeki and have him gone. Azami's policies actually go quite counter to Eizan. Eizan makes his money by creating recipes and helping restaurants and businesses, so he has to cater to the masses. This goes against Azami only wanting to cater to the elite of the elite.

I think Eizan may be setting it up so that he loses a legitimate Shokugeki against Soma with Soma replacing him on the Elite 10 and therefore creating a stalemate. He can't go against Azami publicly because Azami would shut him down easily, so he has to do it through Soma. It also fits his personality as a businessman.

Trying to balance who's just seen the anime and who's up to date with the manga, last time I speculated on reddit I got a shit ton of people screaming spoiler so eh.

Don't think Eizan is as complicated as you think he is, funkytoad. So far, he's following the classic 'minor arc antagonist' role in which he present a problem in a shokugeki that Soma has to solve in a unique way.

Gonna be interesting to see how they go about it. Sneaky moves, trying to influence/replace the judges, or maybe the brute force approach, demand that they try his dish regardless and force them to be fair through sheer foodgasms.

This works, except that he could have avoided this whole mess to begin with by not voting for Azami's coup. That would have locked the Elite Ten at a stalemate and the coup would not have passed.

I think the Polar Star side is going to ambush Eizan on the day of the shokugeki by putting out the call to arms and having a whole bunch of famous Polar Star alumni show up to the match. People who have enough influence in the culinary world to turn the name Etsuya Eizan to shit if he behaves as disgracefully as what we saw in this chapter.

At the end of the day, this guy is a greedy punk and not some fanatical devotee of Azami's. He'll crack and accept a fair contest when the alternative is committing career suicide. At least, fair enough that the judges will actually have to taste the food. The Yukihira swag will handle the rest.

So, I've caught up on the series recently--get past all the fanservice, it reminds me of a sleeker and more relevant Cooking Master Boy with a more likeable cast. The question comes: Any good fanfiction out there yet?

Nothing, maybe Nouvelle at a stretch but I feel like it's gotten less impressive than the first time I read it.

I must be misremembering. Wasn't the E10 vote split 7-3? Isshiki and Kouga against it with Erina abstaining because she wasn't informed?

6-4 with Isshiki, Kouga, Megishima voting against. Erina probably not knowing about it.

Disclaimer I know nothing about the Japanese school system.

The Azami method vs old school method is actually a really interesting debate and got me thinking. So here's some thoughts.

    1. Getting expelled from Totsuki is not the end of the world.

Honestly, think about it. Sure graduating Totsuki, especially if you were Elite 10, probably gives you free reign to star working at a Michellin Star restaurant or guaranteed entry into any kind of post secondary cooking program. But to make it as far in your first year as Soma and the rest have they need to have left 'visible results' at at least 3 professional kitchens. That would look amazing on a resume. To get out of Middle School you need to have the business know-how to successfully run a small restaurant at a profit. Hell even being accepted to Totsuki must be prestigious. Look at chapter 2 and the amount of potential transfer students. Every one of them couldn't think they were talented enough to pass on that 1%.

    2. Totsuki isn't a good cooking school. And that's intentional.

Don't get me wrong, it churns out some amazing graduates but the day to day classes aren't meant to make good chefs. Look at Soma's first class, a roast like that is fairly basic. Totsuki is all about forcing their students to develop a voice or a style to put on the plate and the resources to develop that voice if they show the talent. Everyone that can't is left behind. It makes diamonds but it also leaves students like Megumi behind.

Contrast that with Azami's proposal and you get the opposite end of the spectrum. A mass amount of skilled chefs that have had the creativity beaten out of them. It'd be fairer to students that haven't hit their stride yet but it'd also end up with students like Soma and Ryo quickly being expelled, despite them being some of the best cooks of the 92nd generation.

    3. With the above in mind how the hell did Azami get the E10 to agree to this?

Is it a simple power grab? More authority for them by switching over to Central? I can't see how seeing as the E10 had pretty much absolute authority already. They can't agree with Azami's narrow definition of what cuisine is. The 2nd seat loves food enough to try every single one of the stalls in the festival, that's not the action of someone who thinks every non-E10's stall is garbage. Azami must have further changes planned, ones that grabbed the E10's attention enough to ok getting rid of the variety of cuisine at a cooking school.

Don't get why Azami's reign is considered Socialism/Communism by people, it's more akin to feudalism than anything.
