I've been growing bored of not playing pokemon recently, so I'm looking to play through one of the games again - with a challenge. I thought to myself "where can I find some right bastards?" and thought of you guys. Maybe you'll come up with something interesting. I hope so!

I'll probably be playing either Ruby, Pearl, or Soul Silver. Come up with an interesting challenge for me if you dare - I've already finished Nuzlocke's, which was a pain in the arse.

I was thinking along the lines of a single-pokemon or monotype run through, but couldn't decide which one. I gave up on magikarp, and it's way too easy with a starter. Might try a Ninjask/Shedinja game on Ruby.

When it gets so tough that I want to die, I'll record my gruesome suicide for youtube as your reward. :)

Help a bored guy out? :awesome

    ...Okay.

Just get Pokemon Online, make a team, and come on the DLP channel (Korriban League), and we'll sort your boredom out just fine. We have some pretty good players here, so I'm pretty sure you'll at least be occupied.

But yeah. If you don't want to play PO...

Do a Poison team run. There's a fair amount of dual-types for versatility, and the only trouble you'll really have is up against Psychic types, since there's more than a few pokemon with poison/ground types to cover Steel.

Normal types only. Pure Normal types only. So... SS would likely be: Raticate, Dunsparce, Granbull, Milktank, Tauros, and either an Eevee that stays an Eevee or an Aipom (headbutting trees).

Ruby: Linoone, Slaking, Exploud, Delcatty, Spinda and Zangoose. I likely forgot someone you can find earlier.

Pearl: Can't do Bidoof, since it evolves into part Water. Purugly, Lopunny, and I have a mind blank on whoever else is Normal in Pearl...

A metronome team ftw. Always use metronome, and you have a pretty hard challenge on your hands.

Poison is the easiest monoteam after Psychic (and dragon, if you allow Legendaries). They get tons of dark moves for countering psychic, tons ground/fighting/fire for steel, and plenty of immunity to ground. Plus, good base stats overall.

Do bug monoteam. Whether it's in PO or against computers, bugs are by far the least varied and least powerful to monoteam with. Aside from Surskit, none get a boosted water move to counter special fire.

Snorlax-only run through Pearl / Soul Silver, and bug-type run through Ruby are my plans so far.

Any suggestions for either Pearl or SS?

Gawd, I love mai pokemanz. :3

I was actually listing the first six pure Normal types in order you come across them.

(Though, I did err since Eevee and Aipom can be acquired before Tauros and Miltank.)

Nuzlocke wasn't fun, it was heartbreaking!

I nearly cried when I lost my baby pidgey to a weedle.

Fucking weedle. I caught the bastard and took him to Cinnabar, sent him out first against Blaine, just to watch him burn. I probably have issues.

I've never heard of Nuzlocke challenge before, and now that I have, I have to try it! The rule about fainted Pokemon = death is basically just like Fire Emblem. It sucked to lose units on Fire Emblems too...

There's another aspect to it, I think - you either have to catch and use the first pokemon you encounter in a zone, or can only catch the first one. Possibly both.

I did both. Took me a looong time to get through FireRed like that, although I have a new appreciation for the power of zubat.

Run through as much of the game as you can with only your starter pokemon, but always have him at a level where your badges don't make him automatically listen to you. Like RC him up over thirty after Misty, etc.

Pokemon will only refuse to obey if you get them in a trade.

Bidoof evolution tree only? (HM slaves are allowed, naturally).

    I will do this.

On another note, playing Fallout 3 in this way is the only way to make it hard...
