So this is pretty cool, I've only played the first game on the NES, but I do know that the series has a big following. Perhaps I'll give it at try once it's out.

And only 4 episodes but damn I thought they were good. Run time was like 23 mins per episode but it only felt like 10 to me.

Seriously. The episodes felt really short and left me wanting more.

My only issue with the series is that they killed off the Bishop so quickly. Felt like they could have done more with his character.

What are you talking about, him and the demon obviously got married right then and there.

It's got terrible voice acting, shitty animation, nonsensical plot movements, and jarring tone shifts, but by god am I excited for S2. Think of the goats.

I've not watched yet, but how faithful are they to the games? Like, are they just copying lines and segments, or making something relatively new /original?

It's pretty enjoyable to be sure but I feel like artwork, animation, lipsyncing, etc. feels much more lower quality than it should be in this day an age. It's just not smooth at all.

Belmont has this terrible accent. The attempts to invoke RP o's and a's in an otherwise American accent is really, really jarring.

    Still watching...

Quality of 2D animation progressed with age since... thirties? Forties? Something like that. The amount of quality stuff and average quality fluctuates, but new technologies only help in avoiding looking really bad.

Anyway, as to why Castlevania looked choppy. It was done in Japanese-style limited animation. That is it was split between key frames which showed important stages of movement and inbetweens that filled the movement between key frames. And while key animators did a really good job, the Koreans to which the tweening was outsourced delivered really sloppy work, thus destroying the overall effect.

Example from TTGL. From up: key animation only,
    cleaned and tweened, final scene.

Saw it, though it was a bit cheesy, I loved it. Trev is a fucking G.

I was a bit disappointed not to hear Bloody Tears...

... But that should probably be saved for Drac's castle.

Oh, and I had absolutely no problem with Trevor's accent.

He's played by Richard Armitage, who is British. I didn't notice him trying to play it American.

Anyway, I loved it. I was never really into the games, but the stories behind the games, I loved. I remember going over and over the Nintendo Power guide to Castlevania 3 and thinking it would be awesome to play... but also remembering how complicated Castlevania 2 was, and shying away.

The animation style worked for me. In a weird way, it actually invoked an 8-bit feel, so maybe I was just watching through nostalgia glasses.

I didn't recognize James Callis as Alucard at all. He sounded nothing like Baltar... which I guess is a good thing.

Anyway, I hope this runs for a few seasons, long enough to get through Simon's first quest at least.

Just incongruous and overbearing to my ears, then. All the accents, and his especially. Cheesy is right. "Salt. Kills. Demons. Don't forget."

    Still watching.

Not going to lie, really enjoyed it. Didn't really have any problems with either the animation or the voice acting.

It was cheesy though, what with the church being unabashedly evil and stupid and MC being rather generic as far as things are considered. Also, the woman at the beginning, Dracula's wife, was probably the most interesting and likeable character in the series so far and it's a shame she had to die.

Still, the action and setting are fun, the characters, while not exactly groundbreaking are decent and the scene with the Bishop at the end of episode 3 was outstanding.

So yeah, really liked it, hope to see more.

Season 2 was incredible, I fucking loved it and I love how they expanded on the lore.

    Oh, and:

I may have busted a nut when Bloody Tears starting playing - though not my favourite version. Need more Organ for the spine tingles - as Trevor, Sypha and Alucard stormed the Castle.

This is officially the best adaption of a video game ever imo. Brilliant.
