That tropes section really reminded me how much I despise most fanfiction.

This just reminds me how much I liked your fic, @Taure, and lament its discontinuance.

Also, lol at the last question.

I really liked the tropes addition this year, Taure. It was a fun poll. Great to see what DLP thinks about them. The biggest surprise for me was probably Draco's redemption, people were surprisingly neutral.

I've come to really look forward to these.

Edit: Someone who put Goblet of Fire as their favorite book, please explain.

Haven't read 1-3 in forever, usually reread with Goblet of Fire and then into Order of the Phoenix and leave off there. I enjoyed the tournament, the look into the other schools, the world cup, just the general atmosphere. I might choose OotP over GoF but they're pretty close as memory serves.

For me, it has a lot to do with nostalgia. I think PoA is the better book objectively - there should be a writing shrine devoted to PoA's structure and lack of wasted motion - but because I only really got hooked on Harry Potter by reading PoA, GoF was the first book I was actively looking forward to, the first book where I picked it up right when it came out. I remember it came out like two days before I went on this raft trip, and bringing it along in my waterproof duffel, and just, like.... reading it for hours and hours as we drifted down the river. The Tournament expanding the world and showing a hint of a broader wizarding culture. The "girls are a thing now" comedy with Cho and Fleur. Voldemort returning and Cedric dying.

It's the book I have the best memories of.

It's the middle of the series, where it had gotten past its short and childish first steps but hadn't fallen into angsty depravity yet. It showed us a glimpse of the greater magical world, and Harry had to proactively learn magic. The challenges were exciting the first time around, and spread out, not just only one huge thing at the end of the book.

Haha I like it because there was more magic involved than any other year. I like the triwizard cup,the only thing I didn't like about it was that there was no real hogwarts mystery.

It was the first Potter book I read all the way through (while PoA was my first Potter film – don‘t ask), so nostalgia definitely plays a role.

As for the actual content, I loved the portrayal of the World Cup, I liked the way the Sirius arc was handled, and the third task and what came afterwards – Voldemort‘s ritual, the duel, the escape and the exposure of Barty Crouch jr. – still stands out to me as one of the most tense, yet enjoyable sequences of events I have read in the Potter books, closely followed by the timetravel shenanigans of PoA and the night of Dumbledore‘s death in HBP. There are a bunch of other reasons, but these are the main ones.

Sidenote: Am I still the only one who had Remus as their favourite character? Damn.
